    Oh...My...God

This is like...the coolest thing ever. That AI is awesome, shooting through the windows and dodging beams and whatnot. I'm a believer in it being all random AI, Valve wouldn't lie to us like that.

I'm gonna need a whole new comp for this game...

I just paid $5 to regiter with gamespot and see all 9 movies and all i have to say WOW!!! These are totally and unbelieveablely incredible!!! The physics engine is insane!!! The level of interactivity is by far the most imersive in any game ever created. It's quality is beyond what I ever could've imagined. Best $5 I've ever spent! Believe me they are definetly worth the time and subscribtion to gamespot!!! The water relfects and refracts light (you get a reflection of the stuff above the surface but also a rippiling of all the stuff below the suface). The animations and imersion of the characters is amazing. A scientist was talking to gordon (you) about a machine behind him while typing on a computer and when gorden knocked over a spare computer monitor on another table the scientist looked up at gordon in the middle of the animation and dialouge and told gordon to please be careful then caried on with the animation and dialouge seamlessly. Another thing is some weapons actually refract the light of an image around them like some sort of energy pulse, very cool. I also watched the 45 min dev interview and they said that any previous hl1 content could be directly imported into hl2 and played without any conversion. They have used this ability to bring previous hl1 technologies right into hl2 for testing. This means that any mod out there MAY been easily ported to the HL2 rendering engine without much work... O_o. Oh, and if anybody's wondering the demo linked at the begining of this thread was played on a P4 2.0Ghz with a GeForce4 which was said in the interview.

I can see this game as the new begining to computer gaming and modding... *me goes to watch movie with drivable buggy in it again*

Just have to wait while it connects to the tracker.
Also, only 1 or 2 of the movies have seeds right now. Must be patient. I expect to have all of them when I wake up in 8 hours.

As for how, most of the torrent sites have FAQs. Read them. It's *very* simple.

Even if Doom3 is a competitor to HL2 ( kinda have doubt about that now) HL2 still wins as Modding for the Incredible game will be just as easy if not easier than it was for HL1
    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Erm, you're raving that HL2 will be extremely moddable, based on the premise that the first HL was extremely moddable. You realise the only reason HL was easily moddable is because it was based off Id Software's engine, right? Not a good point to compare HL + D3 on.

Well considering how the AI peeked through the window and then his AI freind kicked the door in...
    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

There is no distinct line between intelligent AI and well scripted events. Watching a video of 1 sequences tells you jack **** about how the game's AI works. You do not know how intelligent the enemies are and won't know anything about them untill you have seen how the same enemies react to different situations time and time again. The video you are watching has been shot to make the game look as impressive as possible. This is not a documentary on HL it is a developers marketing tool designed to make people say "OMG!".

The question "Is it scripted or not" is innappropriate. The AI is designed to react to situations in a certain way, it is purely a question of how flexible the AI is. Shades of grey, all AI is scripted to a degree.

    things to note:
    1) the music
    2) the grittiy realism
    3) the physics
    4) the ai
    5) the coolness
    6) the crowbar
    7) the multiple problem solving routes
    8) the odd liquid leaking from my...never mind

If it is done well, there doesn't need to be.

HL showed us that blurring the line between true AI and scripting could be 100% effective, and create a new kind of gaming experience the like of which has never been imagined.
After all what matters is gameplay, not some obscure technical distinction.

And if you recall how HL simulated perfectly intelligent human opponents, who reacted in a dozen different ways in each situation, in such a seemless manner that no game has before or since managed to approach the level of immersion and awe you got facing off against the marines in HL, you will see why we have reason to believe that what we saw in the video is more of the same. If the opponents are only of that level, it will be a cut above every other FPS. If they have managed to advance the concept...well well, welcome to the future.

From what I saw in some of the videos, there are dozen different possible ways to approach each situation - guns blazing, using your magnetgun, using the environment...and generally, using your head.

That is what it is all about kids.

Game makers, take note - HL, being the greatest game in history, has many lessons to teach, if you are willing to learn.

I actually pity DooM 3 - it might be quite fun, if it doesn't come out with or after this monstrosity of valve's perfectionism...

Looks nice but are all the old cool HL monsters being replaced with those supid looking techno-thingies? What's the story anyway, not released yet? Freeman as government agent? Aliens coming from Xen again? What about Blackmesa? Soldiers?

And that thing Gordon uses to throw thing is just ridicilous. What would he do with such a weapon?

i just watched the one where those flying "things" that cut though stuff are after u, amazzing .
it also shows the bit where that alien in the water spikes the guy. BOY OH BOY that is quality.
and it shows fire effects and the best water ever. i swear it that water is the best u will see in a game for a long time.

GOD i wish i could download all the movies but i only got 128k access and it would take over 5 hours <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

oh the lip synching and facial animation is brilliant. i could see people makeing mods for this in no time because of the possibilities. All the enviroments are amazzing and yet as a mapper/gamer i can see that makeing the scenery up probably isnt that hard as i can see a number of prefabs etc.

I think convential bullet in to the head would be more effective. Or if you were facing 5 mad guys with chainsaws would you choose...

    a) HMG with bunch of ammo

    b) Energy thingy which probably costs 300 times more than HMG and uses helluva lot energy. With this "weapon" you could pick up chairs or whatever and throw them at your enemies.

I would be helluva scared to get throwed with a chair. I would definately take 50 bullets in to my chest rather than getting hit by a chair...

    *Sarcasm off*

It might be fun to play with but I would like to see at least some realism here <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
