PS - This game will take some getting used to, it looks like it will require a whole new approach to puzzles. After 10 years of gamers just assuming, and accepting, the boundaries of game design (In terms of what you can and can't do with your scenery) we will all have to readjust.
Like shooting the supports from underneath the huge crate to smash the aliens underneath. I would NEVER have thought of that, because I would have just assumed that it wasn't possible.
Crazy stuff, I need a FX 5900 <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
I saw the strider video.... I think it was video 8... The strider... Better than I had ever hoped. And that "big blast" thing.... It looked.... awsome. And not to forget when it impaled the poor guy straight down... ouch.
Oh MY GOD!!! I had my doubts about HL2, but after seeing the movies and seeing the actual stuff for myself, I can see that they ain't lying. The AI is what impressed me the most... the alien tried to get through that bridge so he blasted the thing, but when it didn't fall it limboed under! That's not scripted either. <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

No, the developers themselves made the engine to be moddable and said it themselves to be moddable. I would see you have doubts on Valves claims on this game, but I believe they can pull through seeing as they have been developing this under our noses for the past... since HL1 was made. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
ok, sogamed link again... For those of you who found bittorent a little troublesome (which I doubt would be the case), I found another list on links in sogamed.com which allows you to stream 7 out of 9 of the HALF-LIFE 2 Videos.
Anyways, linky time. <a href='http://www.sogamed.com/community.php?id=17454&type=m&category=0' target='_blank'>7 OF THE 9 HALF-LIFE 2 VIDEOS!!!!</a>
I found out I have never seen the third movie on the list. <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

Dread - if you haven't watched the movies you shouldn't be saying anything about the effectiveness of the grav gun. Think about picking up a radiator off the wall, using it as a shield to fend of incomming gun fire from a half dozen combine soldiers down the hall, then firing the radiator at a very high speed killing each soldier and breaking a pop machine down the hall so it's door swings open and a few dozen cans pour out of it in a totally realistic fashion. *goes to watch that clip again*
I have watched the movies, how else do you think I even would knew about the whole gravitation gun. It seems still silly to me. Fun to play with but it's not nearly as effective as old style gun weapons and would probably use helluva lot of energy. I would still take minigun or whatnot to kill those soldiers much faster and more efectively than throwing objects at them.
I think even those enemy soldiers would take 5 radioators in their face rather than taking a good spray of bullets in their head.
It's also speculated that the magnet gun is going to be used for puzzle solving as well so I would bet the energy costs would be low anyway. It's not like its a Tau Cannon. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Half life is based on the quake 1 engine, true, by iD.
Quake modding was creating QuakeC patches, a special c-like scripting language, which limited modders alot with what they can do.
When valve got half life running, SDKs were put out (and updated all along, even now 5 years later new SDKs go out), and mod coding is by pure c++, which means a modder can even write an Office program over the HL engine.
Valve support mod teams all along, answers any question, helps changing what needs to be changed, they host a coding mailing list on their servers, hsot the valve erc, etc. etc. etc. etc.
Are you sure this gives iD credit?
And above the philosophical thinking, they said in interview that the new Hammer to go out with HL2 will not only be used for mapping, but also for creating mods. I'd love to see how that comes out.
Newer rumours (i think in this thread) say that HL2 supports HL1 code, so that'll be like taking a win3.11 program into win95, a cool feature.

On MoD's point, id is notably horrible when it comes to documentation and support, even for licensees, let alone mods. Well, I shouldn't say "horrible," but nothing compared to Valve or Epic.
And Ollj, back to page one... Weren't you just last week claiming this game didn't exist?
For the grav gun do you see a "ammo" counter on the screen? No... <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
People have you ever thought that most of this is from tech demo setup levels. Most things could be mocked up and prepared just to show the coolness factor. For one, if you notice in many of the demo's the AI accuracey is terrible as if the settings are on super easy. Secondly, the player is usually set to GOD mode. Thirdly omg you say the grav gun is ridiculous man, what about the bug shooting arm thing from HL1. HL2 is not all about modern combat weapons, TF2 and CS2 whatever can easily supply that. HL2 is just HL and as in the first game, its quite unnpredictable.
In PC ZONE it says the gravity gun wont make it into the final game <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> i guess it was just for testing purposes.
