Hi all , ive been working on the areas leading out of the marine spawn, still work in progress but i would like some feedback, mostly about the textures , but the rest as well Im trying real hard to make the map feel like a ship ,and this will be achieved by making a symetrical layout i think ( two sides mirrored) . each part of the ship will serve a different function , so the texturing and details will be different , making the map easier to learn. fires and explosions have also ripped trought the ship , so certain areas will be heavily damaged. Seems like my old host http://www.freewebsitehosting.net/ dont allow remote file hosting any more , so for now its at my ugly website My Webpage

Spectacular Space ape. Your ablity to blend those textures together is unreal. The achitecture is beautiful. And your text lighting is just breath taking. If you need a place to host them beatiful picts I will gladly host them for you for free. My site allows off site linking PM me for ftp and URL info.
Wow, that looks awsome, r_speeds are not bad, although it looks like you are gong to hit the tex limit soon.
that screenshot is amazing!
Well, here's some more pics of ns_gladius showing more detail AND better r_speeds. Even thought they still look noobish I do feel like i'm getting somewhere.
This hallway has really been reworked.... it also is now right outside marine spawn instead of a hive room. Before: After: Here is the marine spawn in desperate need of some work.... The CC will be in the room on the left... and a door will joing the two near the corner in the first room. Some more lights might find their way in here too.
I think its looking pretty good Reese. I think the only problem as it sits right now is too much open floor. But I'm sure you're still working on those details. I like your architecture and textures look good as well.
Lo everyone, nice to see some pics keeping this thread alive!
Reese , thats seems like a solid start , the low ceilings give a real claustrophobic look to the place, sort of underground bunker type thing. I would be carefull with those slanted corridor walls in the 2nd shot, they might be annoying for skulks who can squeeze under and get caught .
Quazilin , that s.shot is really nice! room looks huge but still detailed, the lighting is top notch btw. great stuff!
DFA Haplo, thx for putting up the pics for those who could not see them, cheerz

I really don't like it at all. It's super plain and the hallways are too wide. The hallway in the first picture is way too long also, since the r_speeds there are 500+ even though there's practically no detail there. And I don't like the crazy wall slant. I small bulge in the wall might work, but the extreme 45 degree angle thing is bizaare and looks like it was done just to have non-flat walls.
So, I think you have a whole lot of work to do Reese.
If mappers what a place to host all their map pics, you can toddle over to tHeHiveMind and ask for a personal gallery from EliteGuard, which provides a slightly easier interface for map picture posting.
Darkhound: The hallways in the first and second pics are _exactly_ the same length. The point in posting the first one at all was to show how I managed to improve r_speeds and add detail. Sorry you don't like the design, i'm kind of taken with it though. I know the hallway is a little on the plain side.... i'm working on fixing some of the r_speed problems before I start adding more detail.
For everyone else do the floors look too open in that there isn't enough skulk cover, or too open because they simply aren't interesting?
Looks pretty good Reese. Looks like you're really digging the brush shapes and the way you can create sloped walls and what not. I remember when I'd first started mapping with the true 3d engine based games, I was really playing around with the vertex manipulation because all I had messed with up until that point was doom and duke nukem 3d which can't do that, not completely that is. Keep it up man

This is a preliminary shot of a hallway in ns_shiva. I'm trying to work out what the general feel of the map is going to be with this hallway, and setting up some of the architectural constants. Still very much a work in progress. I'm not sure if the ns textures really have what I need for this. I've already made a few and I will probably make more before I'm done.
Haplo, very nice work, not sure if it looks like NS, but never the less has some great atmosphere going. I think it's the blue lighting that makes it not feel like NS. Try using more green yellow and redish hues.

thx! later
This is the marine start: An access tram into the facility (an ice-mining station)
Yes the train is horrible, but i'm working on it. I'm more interested in getting the lighting/architecture/ambience suitably cold, wet and miserable.
A barricade of crates at marine start:

That screen would make a good basis for a caption contest.
"I hear something, and I know it's definately coming from THIS direction!"
"You know Bob I've always had that feeling... you know, like someones watching you?"
"Where are you all going!? The commander told us to build... Guys?"
