Not *researched* - alien attack abilities are dependent on the number of hives online. Each alien has one "free" attack, and each hive online is one more ability (total of 4 per alien).
That's sick lol, lv 1 aliens can self destruct. Jeez, the people in Fox didn't even bother to add a Predator self destruct. How long I have waiting for something like this, yes!!!! BTW, has anyone here play Infantry Online? I hope this ain't gonna be something like that map Bug Hunt.
sure the predator could self destruct. Look at the very end. "Muahahahahaha HAHAHAHAA BOOM!"
unless you mean the game, that would be too powerful since you could respawn. People would just find the busiest spot and blow up. I'm pretty sure Xenocide is a much smaller explosion.

Screenshots? I have a lot from moments in my stories, actually. However, I can't post them without getting them approved my Monse/Flay (suppose I showed a screeny of Flay getting owned, what would we do than?!?! heh heh), and they have enough work to do on their own without me sending them E-Mails like "Can I please please please post these screenies". I agree with this policy. If we posted screenies whenever, there would be no surprises and you guys would stop enjoying them FAST. Then you'd get impatient. Than you'd leave! Don't leave me! Please! . . ahem. sorry.
Hey, i'd settle for more screens of what we've already seen. ^^;;

I got in 3 games tonight, and have 2 funny little vignettes of marine death.
1. This ones for you, tick. On Hera (merkaba's map for all you who are new to the forums), I was playing marine. We had managed to kill 1 hive and had jetpacks. I, feeling powerful, decided to walk off on my own to the hive, hoping to take it out with a siege hidden away somewhere. I walked out into the chamber just before the Archiving Hive (or "Oval"). I looked up to the catwalk above me and heard the distinctive purr of a level 2 and the splat as he upchucked a building onto the ground, I couldnt see him, however. I looked up and hit my jump key, accelerating and lifting up a good 20 feet to the catwalk. I landed with a clink and looked left, empty. I looked right, and behind a portrusion in the wall, I saw the ghosted out edge of an unfinished alien turret. No need to let that thing grow any further. I drew my pistol and snapped a few shots off at it (unfinished buildings die FAST). I look for the lvl 2 responsible, and as I poke in my head, I see his little legs waddle past me out the other side. I run after him, reloading my pistol. He turns around, and, in a surprise move, charges me spitting. He runs past me, switches to his spray and sprays me. I pull out my Light Machine Gun and fire a clip at him, but the little builder MUST have a speed upgrade because he shoots right in at me, spits, whirls around, and charges me again. Its not that hes hurting me bad, I just cant follow him fast enough at 1<!--emo&:0--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'><!--endemo-->0 in the morning. Well, its actually looking a little ugly now. After a few little jousts, I am down to 29 health. But this is an INSULT! Humbaba wont die from a mere builder! I switch back to my pistol after emptying my LMG, and unload an entire clip into the builder. He takes off running, his little legs waddling and patting the ground as he bobbles up and down, bouncing away. I decide its time to finish him in style, and draw my knife. He hears me and turns around, spitting at me once. Down to very little health now. I slash, he sprays. Lets just say I had new found respect for the builder after that little encounter.
2. I was playing marine (what can I say, I play favorites) on NS_Nothing, and I joined in a somewhat inopportune moment. Our base was besieged by a number of lvl 3s and a lvl 2. Our turrets held them out WITH the help of marien and welder. As soon as I spawned, I typed "Im gonna take the vent to a hive, maybe I can siege it". I draw my pistol and Blow the glass pane apart that seals the vent leading out of the marine spawn. I jump up onto a building and crawl in. I had taken my 2 favorite items, a shotgun and some mines. Once I reach a suitably narrow place in the vent, I place 1 mine, unavoidable and invaluable defense. I crawl out of the vent and look around. 3 options. 1, Down the lift. Too noisy. Take a left. There are aliens that way. So, I go right. I walk through the hall, jump down an elevator shaft to avoid making nose, losing 50 health in the process, and walk eventually to a hive room. I message my commander, Citixen "Powersilo hive is empty". Cit places a turret factory and turrets, as well as placing a tower on the node. I take time building all this, and, when its done, I hear over voice comm of news that the base is under attack. Deciding against distracting my commander with requests, and confident from my success, I move on. I travel into another vent (I like vents) and crawl through it. I pop out and look around. I am just outside the largest room on the map, the Viaduct hive. I mine the hallway entering it with my 4 remaining mines and than enter. Its a huge room with 3 levels with supports running up the sides, a generator against the far wall, and a catwalk along the top of the room. I crawl down the ladder to the hive floor carefully, aware that it would be easy for an alien to hide on the ceiling of this room and me not know it. I look into the little nook where the hive builds, and sure enough, some enterprising alien has started it growing. I set 2 turrets and a siege turret from Citixen, when I am ambushed by a lvl 3 while building. He bites me and I die. By the time I respawn again, there is some some bad news. Powersilo hive, cleared out. And my attack on the viaduct hive, overtaken. Nothing in the way of them setting up 3 hives now. We have jetpacks by now. A group of 3 of us all head off to the powersilo hive. They begin building a base outside of the hive in an easily defnedable corridor with blast doors spaced through it that can control the flow of enemies. I enter a vent in this corridor and crawl my way back to the viaduct. I notice a mine I had planted earlier in passing. I crawl out and look around. Thinking back to a previous game (the one on Nothign with the siege and the vent and the shotgun.) , I fly up to the same vent. Ah . .feels like home. I say "I am certain a siege will reach the hive, cit, if you'll place one.". I than look at our rps. 17. Not enough. I wait, and fly around a bit. I hit Tab once we reach 25 rps. Everyone is dead. Guess I should have noticed that sooner. I fly up to the catwalk, at least 5 or 6 stories above the low floor of the room. I swoop over it on accident and quickly burst inward, landing on a catwalk support. I look down, and see Fam, gestating away. I draw my Light Machine gun and empty the entire clip. Green blood spatters. Heh heh, nipped in the bud. I have now regenerated by Jetpack energy, and I jump out, free fall a moment, and lift up back onto the catwalk. I hear the sound of the mines I had planted on my first visit go off, and i hide. I hide to the best of my ability, but I hear the tell tale sound of a successful blink. I see an area of blue/white particles fade and a level 4 charges towards me, I empty a whole LMG clip into him. Nothing. I draw my pistol, fire 5 shots. I than Realize I can fly away and he cant give chase, I take off and swoop down off the catwalk. The level 4 stomps to the edge and flings an Acid Rocket at me. It nails me in mid flight and I die. Team Two Wins.
*note* - Comprox and his amazing skill killd him both times <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->
I had joined a game on NS_tanith a while into it, and the battle was already waging on. We had 2 hives up, and there was a large battle going on for the third. We attacked relentlessly, but the marines has it well defended and a few guys with GL’s and HMG’s were keeping it locked down. The aliens start to become worried, as the marines seem to be hiding in the hive and not attacking much. So, I drag a builder along to near their base in our hive, and he plants down about 5 defensive chambers (they slowly heal you) so I can attack and quickly drop back to heal. During this fiasco, the marines had finally moved out and were attacking one of our hives.
Thinking my team could handle, I slowly pick away at their base. I soon notice we lose a hive, as I lost my blink ability. After a quick exchange over voicecomm, I am reassured all is well on the defense, and I should just try and contain them in their base for a while longer until we can get the hives back online. Heh, contain, with my level 4, this should be fun for me! The marines quickly learn of my presence when they respawn at the minibase (after dieing elsewhere) and they load up with some HMG’s to come and kill me. Well, after a while Merkaba comments “That should be one dead level 4 by now!”. They hadn’t figured out how I was staying alive with my defensive chambers.
Soon, I hear the telltale voice of a hive going down. I soon notice I lost my acid rocket, and I was down to my swipe attack. My teammates were slowly being killed off also. Well, I decide to hold my ground as long as I can! They had assured me another hive was building. But, the marines had also seen that no more aliens were spawning, and knew they had to kill me, and fast!
I was feeling a little weak, with only my swipe attack, but, did I have some fun! The marines came 1 by 1 at first, and even with jetpacks, fell to my deadly swipe in the low hallway. By now, I had been pushed back to my defensive chambers, so I was attacking and being healed at the same time. I knew it was only a matter of time before they came along with a GL and ended the fun for me. Well, the marines didn’t seem to be thinking, and continually asked for HMGs to come and kill me with! After about 3 waves of 4 marines (Multiple defensive chambers heals you quickly! ), the marine started to catch on that I could not hit them at distance. They began a tactic of trying to bait me away from my safety zone. Unlucky for them, I would run out, kill one of them, and retreat back to heal. Those silly marines STILL did not have a GL to easily end the game with!
Well, finally one smart marine hopped into a vent overlooking the battle zone. Since I could not get up there myself, and I could not hit him with my swipe, I had to hide a little more. Thankfully, I could still hide under an overhang, heal, and kill incoming marines <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> By now I had killed about 15 marines, with only my swipe attack. And these marines had power armour, jetpacks, and HMGs. Why they hadn’t pulled out a GL was beyond me! Also, a siege nearby would of taken out my defensive chambers, meaning I could of not healed. But the marines were too intent on spraying me full of lead, so I stayed alive.
I had figured a hive would have been online by now, if it was still alive. I had assumed all building hives had been killed off. Seeing it was useless to go try and build (I would have been weak and died quickly), I announced to the marines “suicide time!”. I charged into a pack of 4 marines, and out of the range of the defensive chambers. HMGs and shotguns ripped apart, with Humbaba dealing the final blow. Upon spawning in the readyroom after the marines did a little cheer for finally killing me, I found out the worst news possible! A hive had been still building, and was less than 20 seconds from being completed! After all of my work, and we could have had a chance, damn!
My hivebrethren and I spawned on Hera. Quickly, we agreed upon a singular goal: to take Reception, a room easily fortified, and practically next door to the Marines' staging point. Off through the halls we raced. <!--emo&:bob:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/bob.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bob:'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:bob:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/bob.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bob:'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:bob:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/bob.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bob:'><!--endemo-->
At first, we held the squishies back pretty well, so I, in my infinite Hive-gifted wisdom, evolved to a Builder, with the intent of fortifying the Reception Hall as a base from which to crush the Marines.
'Honey, where's the Tylenol?' filtered past my headphones. I look up, to see what my girlfriend wants, just in time to hear myself hosed with lead.
The Hive brings me back to life, and my brother aliens are abuzz with questions: Has anyone bothered growing more hives yet? Do we have the Ventilation Hive yet? One particularly pessimistic section of the hivemind is of the opinion that we've already lost - that we blew it in our rush. We have a second hive growing, but not Ventilation, so off I dash, barrelling through the corridors.
<!--emo&:pudgy:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/pudgy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':pudgy:'><!--endemo--> Arriving at the Hive-to-be's location, I bide my time, hiding below rock overhangs, waiting for the resources to begin the growth. After a long, nail-biting time (a minute seemed an eternity) I began the hive, and started fortifying the position, just as Hive Two came up.
Approaches webbed, turrets up, upgrade towers grown, this hive is set, so I wander off to help in the fight against the squishies. In the meantime, Aliens of the Hive have made a push into the Marine staging point and reported destroying their command center and infantry gate - but that they apparently had a back-up base built in Reception. Alas, that we had not fortified that earlier!
At this point, I found myself at the bottom of a lift, in a misty tunnel. Hivesight reported that above me was... the original Marine Base! Plop! Plop! Turrets down, in case someone came down the lift. Some of my winged teammates sallied up the shaft for attacks, and returned to my impromptu base for healing. Shortly there was a small force of us up there, wrecking the remnants of their headquarters, and readying for the push into their last stronghold.

Just means you gotta reset the server, and dive back into the fray! <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
I am fairly confident that the server code is stable, though. We're hearing all these stories about long, long games. And, they wouldn't be quoting 'soon' for the release if the server code was fuct.

I'm playing on NS_Nothing as an alien. I go level 4 to defend our cargo hive from the marines, but in the attack all of our movement chambers are lost. I tell my teammates that I'm going to rebuild them and start to gestate into a level 2. But as I'm halfway through gestation, I hear a lone marine walk into the hive room. He shoots the hive a bit, then notices me (I was tucked away in a side alley) and starts to shoot me. He can't kill me before I pop out, but I'm still just a measely level 2, no match for a power-armor equipped jarhead.
...or so he thought. I stick close to the hive so I can get the benefits of regeneration. The hive quickly repairs my bullet wounds, and I manage to hit the marine a few times with my spit. Not enough to kill him, but enough so he starts to reconsider his attack. This buys me enough time to start to build some movement chambers. However, I suddenly see a second marine coming...then a third and a fourth. My thoughts at the time..."Oh dear, I'm dead."
However, I saw acid rockets flying over my shoulder from a hidden vent. Sgt Bilko had come to my aid as a level 4, and he killed off three of the marines. The last fell to my deadly bacterial spray. I said "Sgt. Bilko, you RULE!" then finished building the chambers. That is what alien teamplay is all about -- you never know whether or not that little, helpless alien has bigger and badder friends waiting in the wings.
Oh, that was a sweet story Rhoads <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

<!--EDIT|Comprox|Aug. 20 2002,00:55-->

Arriving at the Hive-to-be's location, I bide my time, hiding below rock overhangs, waiting for the resources to begin the growth.
Then the server crashed.

Just means you gotta reset the server, and dive back into the fray! <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
I am fairly confident that the server code is stable, though. We're hearing all these stories about long, long games. And, they wouldn't be quoting 'soon' for the release if the server code was fuct.
damn server though <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo-->
i REALLY hope that its THAT fun, THAT exciting, THAT AWSOME in the actual game...
aw ###### im doing it again... (stuffs cloth into mouth to stop drooling <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo--> )
...or so he thought.
