A Thing To Let Marines See Kills?

I have no hard evidence though shocking
I have no hard evidence though shocking as it may seem, marines can still count their kills, somehow. I dont know if the person was using a external program to tabulate kills taken, or he was marking them off on a peice of paper, but i do know one thing: the behaviour is unacceptable!
Stuck on satcomm hive, we were truely lost as marines relocated to the outter room of fusion hive. knowing that the impending doom was over i decided to F4 to spectate the rest. might as well, you know, just to have a gander at what they had; even though i couldn't warn them. so i sat there and watched as the [person] continually racked up the kills. [person] took out 4 aliens, though eventually overcame him. Part two of the story is a tale told a thousand times; that tale is the sorrid Jetpack attack. they were too cheap to aford HMG's though, so the marines just went in with LMGs ablaze.
[person] and another went in the vent and had some fun, but not before getting spiked and bitten some. they were killed eventually as i watched on, and saw the alien team get waxed. some short while after that my veiw fell upon [player] and i happened to hear the words uttered "Yeah, I killed 28 skulks this round."
Disgusting. How can someone think like that in a FPS/RTS combine mod, where teamwork is supposed to be everything? How was he able to even count his kills?
He read the death message display.
He counted his kills up by either using a program to count how many times he killed the enemy, or he simply counted up his kills on a peice of paper by looking at the death message display.
I HIGHLY suggest that the NS team removes the death message display from the marines, instead show what they died from. Marines have no use for how many aliens they killed, only what killed them (bite, acid, etc) If you are going to let the marines get resources for kills, you might as well put in the marine score board again, because you're just encouraging the same behaviour.

However in the intrest of making 1.1 more team based for marines, I'd let it go, and just have, "Shadowics bit the big one from an LMG"
it's well know, isn't it?
and it's going the way of lerk bite in 1.1 also (I think, anyone want to confirm? )
and if someone wants to be a kill counter to the extreme they could have just been counting manually...
Oh, and way to support your team by immediately F4'ing. One player works with his team and follows the commander's orders, but he also cares about frags. The other players abandons his team when they need him, and doesn't care about frags. Which one is worse?
Oh, nice to see you side-stepped the point of my post to go after me F4ing. I did not imediatly F4, i stayed in till the last minutes. It wouldn't have made a damn difference, anyways. Wether i stayed in or not, the alien team STILL would've lost. Sometimes people just like to look on the winning side to see what they could've done to avoid it all.
Haven't you though of people getting sick and tired of no-win situations?
If you have nothing constructive to say on anyone's post, say nothing.
PS: Im giving you constructive critism here: dont put-down other players; they might remember.
PPS: i never knew what that number was, until now. (and so do many other people, im sure)
That's no assurance that the next person will do the same...
I think in the terms of: Lets go finish the objective as a team.
Instead of: Lets go finish the objective as a team and kill as much as we can along the way.
-edit- what is it with my timing these days? romano if i get worked up you know what i do? i dont do jack. Sometimes the worst times are the quite times.
Read your original post again. Your sentence suggested that you F4'd when the marines relocated to cargo. If that had been the case, I would say that your behavior was far worse than his. Pot, kettle, etc.
To elaborate further on my point, players caring about their frags is not unacceptable behavior. Players making frags their first priority, placing it over the good of the team, is what NS strives to avoid. If someone is working with their team and doing everything in their power to bring victory, then what does it matter if they know they killed 28 skulks?
Players caring about their frags is just as bad as players putting their frags as a priority. Either way the player thinks in the same pattern for both of them.
caring about the frags is a back-seat driver in either your consious or sub-consious mind. it still effects how you behave as if you were putting them as a priority! the only differance is that your consious and sub-consious are wresling with eachother, so you get the odd occurance of the marine traveling to the same destination; not necessarilly the same way however.
Fix the status's frags count to remove marine sight of their score.
Counting manually would give us skulks a chance to change the ratio, anyways...
But still, if you're going to make a blanket statement that all score watchers are heathen, perhaps you should be prepared to defend your flaws as well. I guess we should devote that to another thread.

Wrong! Just because somebody likes personal scores doesn't mean they won't take a bullet for the team.

But still... why is tracking kills so bad?! I'm lost as to how this makes someone a lesser player. I try hardest to get as many enemy frags before I die. You know what that makes me? A valuable offensive player. A hive killer. The one who is given the jetpack and HMG first, to go out and take the hive.

You seem a bit too overly sensitive about this issue. Just find better caliber players.

No, far from it. Sure, the tendency to rambo is much greater when playing as a jetpacker. However, I also defend the base.
But why must I defend myself here? I like knowing what my score is, but I play as a team player. Live with it.
!! cliche alert !!
Out of curiosity, how do you know that the person in question was working with his team and following the comms orders? (Granted, he was working for his team by killing, but working with the team requires more than just that.)
As far as I can tell from the original post, the only thing you can know is that he cared enough about his number of skulk kills to track those separately and inform everyone about it afterwards.
e.g. KhazModan 100000000000 kills and my ping or summin i dunno
Sometimes I'll play for kills on a public, sometimes I'll play to win and other times I'll just mess about. But I play publics to keep myself entertained and to keep a bit of practice.
In a clan game, you are usually a little too busy to care about your kills.
Personally I think it is a silly thing to get worked up about in any case.
JAK.
type status in console to show your frag count
or u can alt tab and view it on a server tool such as HLSW.
Its annoying that frag counts are not shown for both teams in the menu, its a nice way of distinguishing yourself from the common n00b.

If a person cares about their frags or kill/death ratio they will generally play far better than one who does not thus indirectly benefiting the team.
there is one that spams to your team: what alien you are, how much res, what level upgrades (Cara...) how many kills and how many deaths...
they are around... and i really fail to see the problem with it.
so the guy wanted to see how he does? big deal.
i always check my score in status, so see if i'm actually helping my team by killing, or if i'm just a handy disctraction for the aliens. no big deal in my opinion
yer it's meant to be a team game, but making a flame post about some one proud of their score... taking it a bit far maybe?
and i agree wit u all...but i think u should be allowed to brag if u knife an onos or such
I don't really see the point. If as you say, you managed to knife an onos all by yourself, then the onos was either afk or a very crappy player, what's there to brag about?
If you got the finishing kill with a knife, again, what's there to brag about... to quote one of my favourite movies: "He ain't a set of f***in car keys, is he? And it's not as if he's incon-f***ing-spicous, is it?" In other words, it doesn't take a lot of skill to aim at a barn door and hit attack.
Of course, when I play Kharaa, I don't really mind that much to have all the marines out running radomly around without any set goals, because it gives me time to study their base defenses and find a weak point and exploit it to take down their IP's and comm.
it's well know, isn't it?
