Discovered that compiling the HLSDK requires EGCS 1.1.2. I have gotten it installed, but lack a component called cc1plus. This was part of the gcc-c++ package for gcc, but of course I need it for EGCS, not modern GCC releases. Anybody have any ideas? Also, I'm unable to compile any related component because it's so old no modern compiler I have available can compile it. So I need it in RPM.

I'm heading out for the night, however the linux archl is up and running. It's running beta 2 until I get the beta2x source from fam and have a chance to compile it.
You can reach it at gus.ath.cx:27015
I haven't tested it from the outside, so please, if you have any problems with it (either connecting or in-game), post here and I'll fix them when I get home or tommorow.
Only 3 maps so far, but it's a test server at the moment so that's enough.

Guspaz: When I spawn, I seem to be stuck in the map. That is, I can fire, but I can't move. A few seconds of flailing around with the crowbar kills me. When I respawn, it's in the same place (no spawnpoint changing, in other words) and the same thing happens. Ping was fine, though.
Want me to take a whack at the compile? I've got EGCS 1.1.2 installed. Just give me those linker options you mentioned. I'm not saying you're incompetent or anything, but sometimes a wacky compiler install can lead to wacky compiled results.
I just tested the server on all three maps and didn't spawn embedded in a surface.
I can't send the source without Fam's permission, and it seems to be an isolated bug since I can't reproduce it (Three maps on server, I tried all three). Maybe the bug is fixed in beta 2x <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I played it. It reminded me of Ricochet, yet in this game, I had a chance of getting a kill. There are some Ricochet players out there that are practically unbeatable.
The linux server is now running an unmodified version of the final Linux port of [beta 2x of] ArcHL for testing purposes. All custom maps (that are not present in beta 2x) have been temporarily removed.
Once the server has been up for a few days and people have played on it, I'll put the custom maps back and put back the old custom config. For now, I want everything to be stock for testing purposes.
BTW, server is (at the moment)

He meant the maps are too small to be downloaded outside the game, in which case isn't worth it, which doesn't technically mean you don't have to download any maps period.
Anyway, you can download maps from almost any servers from almost any mod.
