Okay, if these are troubled teens and their parents are rich.. (I know mine can't afford 25 grand a year to lock me up) Then that means they have probably broken a law or two, when you break a law or two, depending on which one, you get the chance to go to County. Now while in County you pick up a few skills, one could even call them a requirement. These involve smuggling, which these poor **** can't do because 'no visitors' and the second would be making a shank. I won't disclose how this is done because there may also be troubled teens are on this board. Now regardless the size of any given Jamacian bouncer man, if enough people work together, or if one guy has a shank, they can overwhelm him. And since this isn't anything like a prison ::tries not to laugh:: they won't have weapons to reltaliate with. In short, if four Jamacian behemoths rush into my room the dead of morning they can expect to not be very welcome. (I've been forced to go to school by truency officers and police patrolmen, trust me I'm a light sleeper)
Lastly I'd like to add that this quote 'detention center' unquote is giving Jamacia a bad name and people in general a worse name. This country, though I have nothing against it, should ease up on smoking the reafer and open their eyes. They can make more in a year selling dope to these kids than locking them up and feeding them fish! Set them free and you have a new generation to get hooked!

someone pay me to get sent there...i work my way into the system learn whats going on, attain evidance their is more then what seems. Then shank a guard or two(for realism) then get deported...its not that difficalt. If they can control you. They get rid of you.
Just spank your kid yourself and save the 40,000 dollars. I suspect these are parents that don't spend time with thier kids if they can afford 40,000 a year.

kinda scary, but it does work becuase it makes the children change on there own accord, and they know that defiance doesn't work, if I was sent there I would do the whole thing as they said and I would try to get out as soon as possible, but thru the way they want. It's rather scary though becuase they way they go about it places the responsibility on you to change, and after a while you will probably start to belive what there feeding you...

The scary part is not the camp itself but the parents who send their kids there. What are they? Fundamentalists? Executives who have more money than time? Idiots? All of these? From the description this camp sounds like it would do so much more harm than good. Now, there is one way and only one way I can see of letting this concentration camp survive, and that is restricting parents from sending their children there for ridiculous reasons like the one mentioned before... That kind of treatment would leave more scars than the wounds it heals.
If I had to go through something like that i'd run the paces, and then never speak to my parents again.
I'm only 16 (well.. in sept i am) but i'd lay on my freaking face for two years to keep my individuality and my personality.
Another major thing that irks me is that they blame this 100% on the child, not the parent in any way, even though it is proven that environment and how you are raised have a much much higher impact on a child's life than genetics, which, by this program, it is the child's fault.
The major difference is that parents have money and are willing to give it away.
Just once i'd like to head there at night with a camera that was linked LIVE to a computer in a van i brought along/rented; maybe bring my buddies along to help me out. basically i'd sit in a tree with a high-power high-resolution and spy on them for 72 hours on and off. if things get "spicy" i'd lengthen it out more, getting more good shots.
we'd then review the material and submit to CNN, and several other news stations.
basically think of a situation where you're with your friends, walking around at night, when you hear some stuff going down at the 7-11. so someone in your group brings out a camera and starts shooting the vital peice of evidence that convicts the person of armed robbery.
yeah. that's what i'd want to do. ... well, that AND bring start a "fight" between me and a friend (acting drunk), then phone the cops, then when they arive someone near the rear of the facility launches off some air-bombs/firecrackers/what have you in jamaca and the cops investigate; only to find a group of teens face-down on the (probably dirty) floor and several gaurds watching over the teens OOH!! and imagine if all the gaurds were white, and half the teens were black, and the officers were mostly black! dang, it'd be funny to see how the police react. (sorry to say black and white, but it WOULD be a interesting scene... especially if one of the gaurds was giving a teen what-for!)
That place is just sick, how the jamican goverment doesn't forbid i don't know it's child cruelty, what's worst is the parents who send their children, they don't deserve to be called parents, what's evil is that the owner is making money of it, he must have had a messed up child hood, but what if it's not the childs fault it misbehaves, it could be the parents ? so why aren't bad parents punished ? and when the child does return home what does it do to the parents? kiss them and say thank you for sending me to a hell hole so i'm now mentally disturbed ? i would lash out seeing how much rage these children are building up. So it's going to destory familys.

You can condition anyone to do anything if you treat them bad enough. It's called Brainwashing once you do it enough. I'm surprised they get away with advertising this place.
*EDIT* Actualy, thinking about it, anyone bad enough to deserve to go in there would be far too dangerous to be treated like that. Most of us would snap at treatment like that, but imagine what it would to people who stab people for supporting another footy team or something (i know people who've done it, they'd end up getting killed by the guards in that place).

if i didn't want to go, they'd take me anyway. Children have rights, children pracitcly have more rights than adults. So why is this allowed? I can't imagine anyone who would go to this place knowingly with no problems with it. Surely, this must be against some law or other. The people don't even have traing for God's sake! they just pass high school and they're let into an environment full of kids who are scared, confused, very andgry and are likely to lose it. That is terrifying in itself.
I'd commit suicide before going there, and if not then I'd murder to get out. Honestly. And if I'm not satisfied I'm going to give my parents a taste of their discipline-o-matic.
Just imagine this, one day you come back home go to sleep, after a nice movie with some friends, possibly some nice games of NS and go slowly to sleep and dream of gorges or something (typical day) and in the middle of night 3 or 4 people come in your room, handcuff you and gag you, while you watch horrified as your PARENTS that you love so dearly (I hope) are standing there laughing at you and wishing you some nice "fun" in Jamaica. You'd think they'd help but no, they actually financed your kidnap/labor camp thing.
Then, for 6 days you're getting brainwashed, with your apetite cut and unable to eat less than half a plate, thinking how you were even unable to warn your close friends, unable to be with your girlfriend, in even the smallest form of contact, unable to have any sort of relation, and being in a weirdly named family with people you don't even know, sleeping on lame beds.

In theory the idea is OK. just the way its executed. I'd be in favor of a system like this in the UK if it was state controled and enforced and I'm sure many teachers and headmasters/mistresses would too.

basically think of a situation where you're with your friends, walking around at night, when you hear some stuff going down at the 7-11. so someone in your group brings out a camera and starts shooting the vital peice of evidence that convicts the person of armed robbery.
yeah. that's what i'd want to do. ... well, that AND bring start a "fight" between me and a friend (acting drunk), then phone the cops, then when they arive someone near the rear of the facility launches off some air-bombs/firecrackers/what have you in jamaca and the cops investigate; only to find a group of teens face-down on the (probably dirty) floor and several gaurds watching over the teens OOH!! and imagine if all the gaurds were white, and half the teens were black, and the officers were mostly black! dang, it'd be funny to see how the police react. (sorry to say black and white, but it WOULD be a interesting scene... especially if one of the gaurds was giving a teen what-for!)
i hate Jamicans now
*EDIT*
Actualy, thinking about it, anyone bad enough to deserve to go in there would be far too dangerous to be treated like that. Most of us would snap at treatment like that, but imagine what it would to people who stab people for supporting another footy team or something (i know people who've done it, they'd end up getting killed by the guards in that place).
As far as life liberty and the persuit of property/ happiness, you should read the rest of john locke before you start quoting him. Goverment protects thouse rights and that is the only thingy it should do. If you **** up and break laws you can have them taken away.

The article I read didn't mention any law breakers whatsoever, it only said 'trouble makers' It was a broad guess that a few of them have broken the law. Where as odds are that most of them only **** off rich mummy and duddy who are too busy taking care of their personal business associates and getting new sponsors for their activities to pay attention to poor junior or princess. Then junior and princess decide to act out to get their attention like so many enjoy calling it, they 'rebel'.
After Susy or Jack borrow their Mercedes Bens for one night of joy riding and maybe some illegal hazing with their little teenage friends, mummy and duddy think that's the last straw. I won't put up with the child I decided to bring into this world, I will send them to a twisted teenage nightmare camp where they can meet tall dark men around every corner. Oh yes they have gone through puberty before and they missed the entire experience of it. It is during the teenage years that a person is really developed, now toddler years account for a good amount as well, but much more can change during puberty because of the range of new emotions and thoughts.
From the sound of it- do they release a teen after they reach eighteen? Don't they realize that if they sent their kid to the Boys and Girls club they can achieve a much more psychologically sound result?
............. I know for a fact, if my parents gave me twenty-five thousand dollars, I would never misbehave again in my life. Hell I would settle even for five thousand. So why the hell torture them for more? Really, if there is a disturbed parent browsing this forum who knows someone who is planning on this or has done this bring that little tidbit up.
We bomb and kill people in third world countries for taking American hostages, but because the parents sent them there they aren't hostages? That's just hogswallop.
Murder is too sweet a word compared to this.
True but where do those rights end?
Does a kid who does a drive by shooting have the same rights as one that hasn't?
In theory the idea is OK. just the way its executed. I'd be in favor of a system like this in the UK if it was state controled and enforced and I'm sure many teachers and headmasters/mistresses would too.
You can do more stuff in PRISON for MURDER than you can in a camp that your parents send you away to.
That's MESSED UP.

They have been doing this for years its called military schools. If your spoiled 5,000 dollars isint going to make you behave.

If they blame somebody else they will never change.
