well its about bloody time the fade required skill.

it was so annoyin in 1.0x to have someone fade (even a noob would do), stand outside the marine base, select acid rocket, hold down the left mouse button, make a cup of tea, come back, and see that u have got 20 kills and nailed their base.

Fade + Cloak = Mega Awesome Ambush (which a skulk would have probably died in if it was a group of more than 3)

The new fade is great. I play it as much as I can, and I agree with Zek -- the times I die are mostly because of poor judgement.

Anyway, I noticed that it is easier to "fly" with blink if you hold down Ctrl. You can even tap it while blinking, and aim a bit upwards, and then you flyyyy .. Quite handy. Flew over marine start today, down on the IPs, hacked away, then flew back when they started shooting at me.

It would seem then that the fade is only any use in first that period when u need to take out the remote elctrified rine reses (and any wandering LAs), they cant effectivly take on a late game turret farm or more than a single upgraded HA. Other than that it would seem to be gorge bodyguard duty.

If think ill spend my res on a gorge and 4 chambers

Oh man, that made me laugh really hard. lolol so true. I miss the old fade.

On the plus side u can get off 8 acid rockets instead of 4 with the 3 hives. (When you get the 3 hives) Im sure though after a little practice Ill be good with this new "hit n run fade tactic".

Now Hes more of what you would call the Old school 3 hive alien. taking the oni's place. B/c once u get that acid rocket hes back to his good ol self again (minus bile bomb of course).

I truly believe that it is important to be able to change to blink quickly, and I have wondered about how to do this effectively. However, keeping a finger on the 2 means taking it off another key, either A or W. Losing the ability to move forward or turn left is clearly a bad thing. How do you do this effectively?

The number keys are very near W so if you have quick fingers, then just switch. If not, resort to a mousewheel.

But dahm Zek he beat me to it,I was going to write about it.Marines do not expect a Fade to come around behind their back all of a sudden do they?

Jumpblink means blinking in mid-air, either while falling or at the peak of a jump. With it, you can pretty much move freely on the level of height you started on. With a little timing, it gets possible to literally ambush JPers in mid-air.

Generally, I'd suggest mapping the 'weaponslot 2' key as close as possible to your movement keys. That way, it's easy to get Blink or Leap with a doubleclick.

[edit]For me, using the numkeys for movement, this meant setting it to the '9' on the numpad, people using wasd might want to use 'q' or 'e'.[/edit]

Crouching when blinking? Whenever I do that the screen shakes a lot while blinking, it's really distracting...

By the way guys, if you use Regen with Metabolize, you can get them to "stack"(which they normally don't) by timing metabolize to use it every time regen ticks. It effectively doubles your regen speed.

You're right -- it shakes. Forgot to mention that you release the Ctrl afterwards. It somehow removes the "stickyness" the floor under you got. Just like pressing Ctrl while climbing as a skulk -- wheeee, fall down.

Aliens feel like they all need a lot more skill to use now, which is great - its a whole new skillset to learn that isn't just acid rocket spamming, they also need to work as a team which is superb.

The games i've seen where aliens worked as a team they cleaned up, because the marines and especially the comm just are not used to the new maps, interface etc. 80% of the games i've played have gone:

res rush
50/60% of alien team gorge and head for a res node each.
Marines move through the map capping and elecing nodes, while building in base

Three hives go up
aliens all put pressure on the marine start and thier nodes around the map,
Aliens fail to gg and loose onos/fades/lerks and hence the resources for them.

Marine HA train
Marines have teched to l2/l3 weaps and have enough res comming in to all go HA.
HA&welder train moves to a hive where a turrent farm and sieges are placed, PG's too.

Two hive lockdown
marines have taken two hives, but aliens have all upgrades and most of the res, both turrent farms are inpenetrable without ranged weapons like bilebomb or acid rocket and lerks are easy fodder for l3 weapons, esp hmg and GL

Stalemate
Marines cannot move teh map too well and must stick to strongholds thanks to sens chambers and oc's everywhere, aliens can't break into the hives they need to get the weaponslots to finish the marines

Stagnation
Game continues until people get bored and leave, then its down to sheer weight of numbers for one team to win.

Though I dont think this is any fault of NS2. I think its due to the large change in playstyle needed by the aliens, with the small change from the marines POV. Marines are possibly winning more for that reason alone, the aliens just have to learn the skills needed to win, while the marines already have the necessary skills.

The fade is by far the biggest skillchange, but it is useful, we just have to learn to use it properly, instead of the acid rocket spam. I've not figured out metabolise yet, but it took me ages to work out blink - so if anyone wants to tell me what this thing is supposed to do then let me know Does it just heal at any time? or only heal when taking damage?

tanke, the same thing happens if you just jump before blinking, and you don't have to worry about any screen shaking...

i made me a script. at the moement its only for the marines, but all u have to do is roll the mouse-wheel to get a weapon-change.

Saves a bit of time (although being on 56k theres a huge delay between weapon selection and weapon readiness which usually screws me over)

To those of you who think Fade is underpowered, or that it can only be used hit-and-run:
What the fruit?
Team up with a lerk!
A fade and I completely destroyed at least 5 HAs assaulting our position. There were HMGs going off left and right, but they just kept falling to fade claws. Umbra is a fades best friend. Umbra + regen makes for aliens that are healthy in long term engagements. If they break out a GL, simply have the fade retarget, and the lerk flap around. Teamplay guys, it wins games.

You guys stop complaining the patch hasent been out for to long.. As flayra said please wait a few weeks before saying how unbalanced it is. Personally i think this patch is very balanced and give great exiting game play.

Anyway HA is easy to kill with fade, Just get carapace and celerity and run in a circle around them they cant turn fast enough to shoot you...Even if they are in large groups. I mean HS is easy to take out with skulks...

I've been practicing with the fade a bit. This thing flies better than the lerk! Getting in vents is tricky sometimes (depends on the vent), but I now move faster through the vent system than with a skulk. Nice ability.

I guess that's the new role of the fade? Big evil superskulk?
