Bad Grammar, Word Corruption

teh "elite" or just vulgar and unrefined?
Whats your opinion on Bad Grammar and word corruption? Theres a thread nearby where someones complaining that you should say that the onos has been redeemed, not redempted.

I personally like to abuse word corruption, create neologisms whenever possible. I've also come onto the habit of bad grammar, clipping off nonessential words.

bad grammar runs rampant but I don't care, as long as I don't use "leet" or other terrible forms of verbage in real life I'm cool with it

    Yah, I can respect that.

Clipping off non-essential words and bad grammar is fine, because you can get a message typed out much quicker in a time-sensitive enviroment.

If I could get away with it, I would! In fact I do somewhat already.

All that corrupted english IE "OMG ONOS R TEH W00TZ0r!!!111" is just a big joke to me. I don't try and make myself feel superior by dissing it(or those who use it), nor do I go around thinking that talking like that(which I don't overall, but sometimes to some extent) makes me cool.

In game or in the forums?

In game, it's excusable. '4 rines to fedwtr'. 4 marines are coming to feedwater hive.

In forums it isn't. If you can't be bothered to graduate 5th grade and learn that typing 'I r lieking teh new gayme. it r teh r33t. i r gonna r0xxor u.' makes you look like an idiot, you don'd deserve to have your post read at all.

So we've established that in a game it's okay to take shortcuts (as long as they really are just a shortcut, not stupidity) but in a forum it's inexcusable (given the composition options and the relative lack of importance on time)...

But what about IRC/Instant Messaging? I feel that those who do not at least make a token effort to write in an acceptable literary style should be flogged for every mistake they make.

And I only use '"elite"' to be sarcastic or humorous.

No... the idea of word corruption and bad grammar for me is to make my prose beautiful. I get complaints that no one understands what I'm saying, but oh well.

My only biff is that if you're just messing around, it's fine. But if you're trying to "act" intellectual, or just plain out trying to prove a point, please use good grammar and spelling. It only makes me want to ignore your post, if you can't spell, what makes you can make a valid observation about something ?

Same here. Most of my spelling mistakes are accidental, same with grammer. But i've found myself using "Teh" instead of "The" a lot. Maybe it's got something to do with the way i talk on IRC to some people:

I don't mind cutting every other word in order to make a sentence shorter, and thus faster to read. Why should I waste all this time on writing all these words (and your time on reading them), when half the words will do? There no for, now ever. fact, wish was utility automatically every word a I too, so I read faster. am the master.

what you've got to consider is that even worse than grammar and word corruption on the forums is self-righteous perfectionist spew.

i don't know if i've ever made an error in spelling, a grammatical error, or even a technical error at these forums. i don't try very hard not to, i just grew up typing what i meant to say. and yes, i know i'm not using proper capitalization, that i choose not to do.

but think about this: is "elite" cluttering your otherwise-beautiful vista of the forums? you've also got to consider that posts like these turn up ALL the time.. and they're even more annoying and tasteless than some "elite" can be.

QUOTE

I get complaints that no one understands what I'm saying, but oh well.

are you trying to establish yourself here as some kind of voice of erudition? you've gotten complaints that no one understands what you're saying?

you've gotten COMPLAINTS? you have like 20 POSTS!!!

edit: for chrissakes, think about what you're saying. at 20 posts you've already tarnished your image (in my eyes at least). you sound like a stuck-up person who looks upon altered internet language with disdain.. it's not your f*cking call, now, is it?? but you know that, and use the words corrupted, and neologistic to justify even using them in the first place.. like saying, "i pick up crap only so i can throw it at these crappy people.. and i use gloves, too"

    CHRIST...

I have a few questions for you, Jin-Roh:
1)How was what I did subtle?
2)If you didn't mean that as an argument, then why was it so argumentative?
3)What makes you think that just because you say something, it automatically becomes the last word?

    1. that was subtle because it was called for, and thus acceptable as a reply, but still irrelevant and digressive.
    2. it was argumentative because... it's just too common. i couldn't help but get aggravated ~,~
    3. not a relevant question. i didn't figure it was the last word because i said it, i figured it was the last word because nobody replied seriously, and the topic turned to lollipops.

Well now that MonsE is gone, I think I'll just say that I guess you're right on the first count, but you were getting really worked up about this topic, and I never saw how people can get so cheezed off because someone else decided to use some slang that is reletively easy to understand if you have a basic grasp of typeing and the way words look. It's just some leet, let it go people, and for those who get **** off at the people who insist everyone use the king's english, just let that go to, you can still type the way you want and if you really have something relivent to say then they'll have to read it.

/me puts in his 2 cents

ok, some of you might know my writting style some might not. Generaly my speilling is bad (I am bad at it and any one who wants me to runs posts through a spell checker is asking way to much ). My grammer is not real, I use newlines to seperate ideas, and most of my writting is a simple chain of conciousness(sp?) (meening that I type what I think when I think it, often leading to my posts sounding like a conversation).
oh, and look I use ALOT of abeviations, partliay b/c I am lazy and partly b/c that is how I type (yes I have tought word a god number of my aberviations and it auto corrects them for me ). And I like parens (as You might have knowticed by now ) and this smily:

(note /nl)When ever these 'discussions' (I am beeing nice here) come up I try to insert my POV rationaly. so here it is:
I believe that so long as your post is legible, does not make my brain hurt, and carrys a point I am ok with what ever you wana say. Thus I like people ussing newlines and such b/c it makes the post simpiler to read. I prefer DECENT pelling (as long as I don't have to try to decifer your words I am cool with it). So in general it comes down to the fact that if I don't have to strain to figgure out what you are saying I have no problems.

However, people who put ZERO (I like caps for making stress ) effort into making their posts legible (and don't even try to shape up when you ask them), well I have no tolerance for them. Especialy b/c I spend most of my time over in the Tech support forum where I am trying to HELP said people who write 1 line saying:
ns frezez wehn i try 2 pl4ywaht is worng?

i honestly hoped people wouldn't get the wrong idea when i mentioned his post count.

i'm not flaming him because he has a relatively low number.

i'm trying to understand WHY he says he gets complaints that nobody understands him when he's hardly ever posted.

edit: ... thus greatly reducing any possibility that he has gotten a large number of complaints about people understanding him.

and i'm sure everyone understood him perfectly. did they not?
