i dont think so, but thats my opinion
Topic title, with all the hype of 2.0 and now all the let down with the imbalnces etc, does anyone actually see NS going anywhere? Theres been talks about how NS should move to HL2 engine when its out, but that will take ages - look how long we waited for 2.0. In the mean time, is there anything thats going to attract ALOT more people to play NS?
Unless they add a few more weapons and maybe a tank, i cant see it happening. This is not a flame, i enjoy playing NS more than ever, im just looking at the bigger picture here.

i expect very few mod teams have the plan of where they want their mod to get to, and then stop. it will just keep on progressing as new ideas and new suggestions come in from the players and the team.
I'd like to see more of a storyline involved, or at least more of a storyline within individual maps...
the mass players will come in over time when the serious balance issues have been solved. like you, i love playing ns at the moment. however, it isn't balanced... public play style is very hard to play-test as it is random and depends on far too many things.
to be honest, who cares where it going? just take it all in stride, and get on with happy fragging.
a tank might help in the mean time
did i miss something?

So, imo, don't worry man, people will keep playing NS, it's a great mod of course it could be better but I think most of us can keep playing it for a long time without expecting big changes (Although, ok, it's true, I'd expect it to be ported to HL2 engine, too ).

Only if it's a HOVARTANK like in Tribes 2.
With 2500 people currently playing, NS is the 12th-most-played game listed on Gamespy stats. GAMES, not mods. It is ahead of RTCW, Vietcong, JK2, Tribes2, and more.
In terms of mods, here is how other mods stack up:
Half-Life: 3 mods with more players than NS.
While other games have official gameplay modes (e.g. BF1942's standard play mode, "conquest") that boast more players than NS, Gamespy lists no other mods with more players than NS.
________
Now let's look at player/server ratios.
Half-Life: 3.3 players/server
-CS: 3.5 p/s
-DoD: 4.5 p/s
-TFC: 3 p/s
BF1942: 4.5 p/s (and remember that BF servers hold more players than HL servers)
Wolf ET: 12 p/s
MOH-AA: 3.4 p/s
NS: 5 players/server
NS ranks 12th among full games and 4th among mods. Among the top games and mods, it ranks 2nd for players:server ratio (ahead of CS, DoD, and TFC). And keep in mind that this is when NS has only 2500 players, while it has gone over 4000 and has been listed as the 3rd-place mod in the past.
How is NS not going anywhere?
I started this post coz a member of torment, and a V good friend of mine who ive known for about 3 years has decided that ns aint what its cracked up to be, hes now gonna go build his life back together, get a job etc. This made me wonder if i should do the same, ive done almost nothing in the past 8 months except play NS, and to me thats not the right way to live. Im not trying to dramatise online gaming or anything, but when u play at a level like torment's it takes up alot of ur time, unless ur just naturally leet and know every tactic out there.
of course it'll never get like CS, i doubt any mod will, but i'm sure it'll be up there with DoD (maybe it is now) and TFC.
i think the biggest problem is people with shite computers and GF2MXs, like most CS'ers.
running at 10fps isn't much fun, but by the time they upgrade HL2 will be out :/
You're just now figuring this out?

Thanks for the backround information on your level of play, I now truley understand how much time you put into the game by that post. [/sarcasm]
Your friend is obsessed, I think it's good that he's going to "build" his life back together, assuming it "broke" because of NS. Though, if it broke because of NS, I don't see anything in my mind that could possibly make you post something which would do nothing but generate flames. I mean, your friend apparently ruined his life over this game, it's just that good.
No.
You know what was a wait? The near year I waited for 1.0 to come out, reading everything on this board from the play testers, and itching to play myself.
NS has definitely picked up a lot of speed, and I think is moving at a nice clip now. Where will NS be in a year from now? Two years? Well, the be frank, I hope it has become a retail product, or I hope that Flayra has sold his skills to some company who gives him the creative freedom he deserves. He has amazed thoroughly with what he managed to do in his own time with the HL engine...imagine what he might end up doing with a stronger engine, and the funding to create a team for his vision. Whether that product is the newest NS work, or something entirely new, I imagine I will most likely be playing it.
As for now, I'm enjoying NS 2.0.

it was at school and as we played our jaws completely and totally dropped
ns is going places, but I will leave coil to do the arguing for me cause he does a good job
