Well if you want to know why you see more onos in general, it's because there's nothign between lerk and onos. The fade is a lousy investment when the marines have teched at all, so everyone just goes Ono.
They go down easier because alien armor was nerfed... a LOT.
Actually, none of those are correct. The marine weapons do the exact same amounts of damage as in 1.0, ironically. The change has come to the way alien armor rounds damage and ignores damage. In 1.0-1.04, all alien armor had some amount of damage that it ignored completly. This no longer happens. Alien armor now takes damage the exact same way marine armor does. There was also the issue of the armor rounding up damage, and still causing damage to be ignored even if the armor couldn't take the entire hit or had run out. This is also fixed. The end result is: alien armor is finally taking the amounts of damage it was supposed to, so aliens take more damage, and thusly, aliens die more often.

Well in NS 2.0 the weapon or attack to damage ratio was balaced out more with regard to damage inflicted and accurassy. In one of the new maps...3 HA HMG marines up top of a cool vantage point can make short 2-4 Oni depending on skill, connection speed(lagg factor),---enemy skill, enemy connection speed(lagg factor).

Also when 1.04 was out some HL/CS MOD goers would steer away from NS because the aliens had a ultra weapon (undefeatable), so altering this factor would increase its appeal to todays novice gaming audience.
