You claim that bast is crap for marines? Well what about the fact that just about everywhere there are long rooms and coridoors. If a marine is smart he has a LOT of room before a skulk even gets near him.
Don't look at it so biased...Bast is a good map, it's just not the easiest map to play.
Bast gets a lot of flak because its flaws are in somewhere vitally important: marine start. Even though the refinery hive is pretty rough, as is tram tunnel, and all sorts of other little places, they don't come up every game. Sometimes you have to deal with it, sometimes you don't. Marine start always plays a part in the equation, and its slowly shortening everyone's fuses. I think hera is the only other map with a marine start problem (lerks in the open area), and that's being fixed. All of the maps have flaws, but some carry more weight than others.

You can only place IPs:
1) Around / under the vent.
2) Next to the CC
3) By the revolving door.
4) UNDER the CC.
Next to the vent, they're lerk / gorge / skulk bait.
Next to the CC they make good lerk / skulk targets, especially for spores.
By the revolving door is suicide...
Under the CC... I've never seen them there, and I think it'd just cause problems. You'd have to trip over each other to get out, and I think it'd just be a ripe target for an onos.

Building on that side is probably better. But like we agreed, IPs are a problem. So you basically have your base split: All the auxiliary structures are on one end, and the vital things are on the other.
However, once the lights go out in the marine spawn, people like me who play on low gamma need to have phase gate flashlights everywhere, because we can't see crap in that room

BTW: On ASE right now, of all the servers running Bast, only 3 are nearly full, and only 6 have more then 6 players.
Lost and Mineshaft are also suffering from low players, but more then 90% of servers with players that are playing lost and mineshaft are, or are nearly completely full.
Simply put: Bast right now has the least people playing it.
the map is fine imo. just need to fix the vent and get rid of the slit, so its just a total cover thats about it. I really dont know how the fact u can just +use the vent to open and close it got past closed beta.
u want to talk about maps made dodgy, errr i cant remember the name but everyone should know it when i say marines can siege double res from their starting base.

As for the last part, thats sad, seeing as how all bring up exactly the same thing. Marine start namely. Get over it. 1) The secret node. This node benefits marines 6 ways to sunday. Why? Because you can shoot it from the Tram tunnel entrance down below. If there's an alien RT in there, they can just gun it down from outside. That's not very fair. Meanwhile, aliens have to go all the way around to get in, and usually that node is full of turrets.
2) Refinery. This hive has become a lot more dangerous for aliens with the new minimap and turrets. There's no where a lerk can go where the marines can't get an angle on him in more then two directions. The turrets will swat him out of the air as well. Furthermore, finding 'hidden' aliens is as complex as looking for the big red icon on your minimap (I HOPE this is removed)
I must say I've seen some colorful tactics on this map that you'll never see in any other map. For that reason I like it. If the marine spawn weld would be fixed, this map would be better (It can still benefit from some other fixing).

Which is funny because there ARE data recovery firms out there that can get you your data back for $1,000. Some have even gotten back 90% of the data from a hard drive that was MELTED IN A FIRE.
I'm sure if they just set up a 'Donate to rescue the maps!' they could easilly cover that cost...
Most likely someone trashed the hard drive already though.

$1,000. It's a map, sure it's a loss, but let it lie, a free map isn't worth $1,000. Besides, surely any donations would be better given to Flayra to live as opposed to resurrecting a map.

While the IP is a problem, i've had no problems on the revolving door side before, aliens tend not to use it because a) it makes a unique sound and b) it takes ages. But knocking up a TF and some turrets might help defending it, and it isn't in bile bomb range. Also, the far end of the base against the wall the vent is on is unreachable by bilebomb. Seriously, it's not that much effort to walk a few metres more.

EDIT: The revolving door may not be trouble in early game, but 99% of the time, an onos WILL come through there eventually... and... yeah.
Well an onos walking into your base from anywhere is bad news, whether you have turrets there or turrets around your base elsewhere, you're gonna have a problem.

So far everyone 'constantly crying' about Bast has shown infinitely more intelligence, logic, and purpose then you.
Strike 3 - How about you go away instead? So far 75% of your posts in this thread are unconstructive, inflammatory, opinionated, baseless trash you spewed.

Wonderful! Than bring this up to the server admins there, don't come flaming this map here.

And how are they showing such intelligence? By bringing up the ages old crying about "OMG Bast is the suck!"
There are just as many people who like it, this board is not made to just come in and tell people that they should take maps out of rotation.
As for the last part, thats sad, seeing as how all bring up exactly the same thing. Marine start namely. Get over it. There are ways around it, and frankly, many of you are sickening for not looking beyond that. You do know you can build OUT of the reach of the vent from being bilebombed, right? Good!
Anyways, I'm done here. Twister game going in the upstairs dorm
It has some of the most memorable and distinctive locations of any NS map. Tram Tunnel, Atmospheric Processing (AKA Double node), Engine (with the lovely hidey holes for Gorges to build sneaky DCs or now sensories prior to an alien counterattack), Main Aft Junction (taking this was crucial and accounted for every single non-rush marine win I saw), The JP friendly Refinery hive (Lerk lovers unite) and not to mention every anal retentive's favourite (oh I know the map so well, check the node you nub), the "secret one" because no one ever remembered its name.
With electricity, the spawn is no longer a problem. It's much harder to get into alive than say, Tannith or Nothing. JPs can still feel the need for speed. Oni don't have many ladders to navigate. Fades can hovar without flapping in refinery. Their are functioning doors and welds, although some don't do much due to "parasite fun". Hardly Relic's fault.
Bast was one of the most popular maps in testing, due to its excellent potential for marine comebacks and double node near marine spawn.
Someone worked very hard at that map and you've all enjoyed Bast before now. Disrespecting his work is slack behavior at best. If you do have issues with the map, fine. List polite and constructive comments. The NS community is one of the best on line gaming communities I have come across. Try and keep it that way.

I agree, though just to be constructive...
