A question about siege turrets

And the ability to shoot through walls.
I remember reading in one post that siege turrets do not shoot at enemies, only enemy buildings. I also read that these siege turrets can shoot through walls.

How does the turret know where to shoot? Does it automatically fire at any alien buildings within range, whether it can see it or not? Or does a marine have to be able to see the alien building for the siege to fire at it?

It detects any buildings within range and unloads. No help needed. It does require a lot of protection though, as they are rather vulnerable to aliens walking up to them and nibbling.

Sweetness. Thanks for the reply!

Does a level 5 count as a building? (kidding)

So basicly you build one outside of a hive room and watch the fireworks?

Also, I remember reading you need a turret factory to build turrets in the immediate area...

How big is this area? like, same room?

if u build a turret and kill someone who gets the kill

are there even kills in the game?
• UnknownUnknown Join Date: 2002-06-12 Member: 759Members
Im pretty sure the aliens are the only ones that have recorded kills.

Seige turrets won't target alien players, but there is a lot of splash damage. Aliens can still die if they aren't careful. And they just die. No one 'gets the kill' because marines don't have individual frag counts anyways.

And they're expensive, so don't worry about uber-exploits.

Another question... if there's an enemy building, and say a lvl 5 walks in front of the Line of Fire into that building and the Turrent is firing, will it hit the lvl 5 first and continure to the building? or just cuase massive amounts of dmg to the lvl 5 and surrounding beasts?

So how far from a turret factory can you place turrets?

Sentry turrets can be placed anywhere in a pretty good sized radius. Not bigger than a room, maybe not as big as some rooms, but big enough to cover one room.
Siege turrets do not require power from the turret factory.

I wouldn't say the factory supplies power as the screenshot tooltips tell that once the factory is destroyed that the turrets will still operate.

Can buildings, like the siege turret for example, be demolished and the part/all of the resources credited back to the marines? It seems a bit of a waste to build one of these ~el-expensiveo~ turrets only to have to leave it there after the alien base has been destroyed.

thats why u dont leave them alone not having a siege restricted to turret factory range is a very good idea.

A gun that can shoot through walls... ummm... they better try this in EVERY possible position because if one bug slips by like the marines placing it in such a place as outside the normal map area. Don't laugh.. things like that have happened.. you can walk outside of the map in well by pressing against the wall at a certain point. Just think if a commander placed the plans out there and exited as commander and set up the turret outside the walls. There would be know way to stop it killing buildings from outside the level.

But I am sure a turret that destroys buildings through walls works well in game I guess.

You have to place the buildings on solid brushes, NOT open void...
• TiCKTiCK Join Date: 2002-05-30 Member: 708Members
No snuff?

I REALLY didn't know that you can't place objects in the void! How completely stupid of me! OMGBBQ

I totally forgot to mention that on well you can walk on the top of a brush that is outside of the normal map area LOLOMG!
• UnknownUnknown Join Date: 2002-06-12 Member: 759Members
I fell into the void in well. I was swimming in the short water tunnel, then I heard a sniper rilfe fire and I was pushed though the wall and fell into the void. I almost made it out but the phone rang and I had to go get it.

There is also water in badlands. The exit closest to the respawn is where you can find it. Its right next to the wall but you have to conc/rocket jump to get up on top of the base. I can't explain it, it would be easier to show you.

Quick question about turret control -

Can commanders manually choose which aliens to target with turrets? Cause if not, that would be a nice feature. :)

That would be cool if Marines could control turrets, Tribes 2-style... but then again, their aim would probably suck more than the turret's alone.

They dont want controlable deployable guns/guns that take more than 2 people to fire. Period.

If you want to attack the Alien building network and then move on and attack something else, and so on, there is no need for a siege cannon, and grenade launchers and HMGs would be more effective. if you could build a siege, kill the enemy, then just sell it again, it would rather unbalance the game and mean no other tactics would be needed.

Well then I'm confused Fam, what is the use of a siege turret anyway? I mean, is it used just for fortifying rooms? By your description, it doesn't have any real use after the hive area has been destroyed.

Thats very true. It has a very real use BEFORE the hive area has been destroyed though.

Yes. The scoreboard shows alien frags/deaths, but does not show marine frags/deaths.

Maybe it should say something like:

Room with stuff - Turret (86% health)
Main Chamber - Armoury (100% health)
Foggy Hallway - Seige Turret (21% health)

When you pressed tab on the marine side.

How effective is the other turret? (I believe its calleda sentry turret) What I mean is hows its range and ROF and damage? Compared to a LMG for example.
• MoebiusMoebius Join Date: 2002-08-01 Member: 1045Members, Constellation
Also it seems as though leaving a seige turret could be good just to prevent someone rebuilding in that hive area, so selling it may not be such a good idea.
