Being a footy fan, I always associate Brazil with football first I suppose. Pele, Socrates, Ronaldo.
It's in South America, capital..Rio de Janeiro? or is it just Rio..?
Samba music, rain forests, beaches, saucy women in bikinis and that big jesus statue also spring to mind. Pretty sure they invented that weird dancey martial art as well...Capoeira is it?
When I think of brazil I think of soccer. When I think of brazil I think of coffee. When I think of brazil I think of hot latin women. When I think of brazil I think of a culturaly diverse nation with many wonderful traditions.(This statement was a flame-retardant, because I don't wanna stick to sterotypes and have a brazilian jump down my throat )
When I think of Brazil, I think of soccer, poverty (not sure if it really is that poor or not, but that's what we're told here), and Capoera (which for those of you who don't know if a martial arts form).
I think of that virus I got 3 weeks ago that hid itself in a file called "Brazil" and kept coming back every time I connected to the internet.
I did a project on Brazil in school, but I still can't remeber the captial
Stop chopping down your damn rainforest ffs! Let me have some! (sets about destroying the environment with a big chainsaw)
Wow. I must confess, some of you 'gringos' know a lot about Brazil. And some of you have no idea about Brazil. I'll post some things which are real words of wisdom, and others which are not good, or that I have no idea why you guys think of that.

Misconceptions of Brazil:
I'm not gonna state any quotes, so people don't feel bad. I noticed many people think that Brazil is only soccer, rainforest and little kids playing soccer in the mud while listening to it's tribe's music.
TOTALY WRONG!! Yes, Brazil has an excellent soccer team, due to the fact that the poor kids just play soccer everyday. Yes, 1/3 of Brazil is covered with rainforest, but it ain't only that. Down in the south, we even have snow (not good for snowboarding though). And who ever says that Brazil is full of little skinny, bald headed, brown kids playing soccer to the sound of tribe music and that everyone lives in the rainforest, and I'm sorry to use this word, is a complete IGNORANT. Is the same thing as me saying that Americans are cowboys, shooting at each other, or that they are a completely racist country. However, I know they are not. It's also like saying that the British always drink tea, and that they are all snobish. Some people might not know this, but Brazil the one of the top 10 most important economies of the world. It's like, in 8th place, but I'm not sure. If anyone has any question about Brazil, just post here or PM me

Also, although you are taught about the history of your country's slavery, I believe that very few of the actual slaves were compensated for it when it was abolished. many of records of slave ownership were "accidentally destroyed" in a mysterious fire...
Incidentally, The reason I know a lot about Brazil is that i was at one time a Capoerista, until my job forced me to move away from the Capoeira school I was at. (there are only 3 places you can learn it in the UK, London, Birmingham, and Manchester, AFAIK). Still, I'm off to university near london shortly, so if i can afford it, i'll start up again.
anyway, glad I could show that some of us foreigners do actually take the time out to learn about other countries (even though I personally know one person who thinks Brazil is near Italy... he sees the football connection, and nothing else... ... what a retard. )

funny, that sounds like the english stereotype, not the british one =P
As for brazil I can't say I've ever really noticed it outside of TV being spammed constantly with stuff about ronaldo or whatever his name is (my step-dad watches football, I never really did like it), so I didn't really have anything in mind when it's mentioned (even the fact some footballers come from there took a while to pop up ^^; ) I'm like that with a lot of countries though and my geography marks from back in school show it =3
