Warhammer 40,000
<div class="IPBDescription">Post your Army!</div> (I searched, and though I found many threads related to 40k, none were about individuals armies)

But alas, my unit, the Blood Angels 503rd Armored/Scout/Sniper Battlion, has well... withered away..

But mechwarrior pwnes.
But the game kinda appeals to me. Strategic combat without all that tedious "resources" stuff, and without the hectic pace of rts games. No fun with unpainted miniatures though.

ok, insteps gaming freak ;P
@Quaunaut
thats one of the nifty things, though alot of the races go for big bad boom, a few go for crazy #s, stupidly fast, assassins etc
for a quick run down on WH40K,
////Disclaimer, I havn't played in a long time and even then I wasn't that into it\\\\\
its fantasy set with futre stuff ;P
SpaceMarines = humans (well, there are actualy a few human races, including chaos spacemarines)
Eldar = Elves
Tyranids = umm, well they just remind most people of Aliens (teh movie)
Then theres the undead I don't remember right now (like necrotics of something with necro in the name)
There ussed to be Dwarves (like stumpie or something, but no one played em so they bit the dust)
Oh, and Orkz = orks (GREATCHIN MOB!!!!!, yes I do like rolling like 20 dice and killing ONE space marine ;P)
so, if you like the speed and stuff drop the Eldar a line
Oh, and magic is simply named psychics ;P
now, a SLIGHT hijack
for those of you who are interested in table top strategy but don't have the patience to paint minis, you can allways try WizKids Clicks games.
Basicaly they have like 4 games that run off the same system (Battletech they now own, MageKnight is Fantasy, Hero Clicks is comic book stuff, and ShadowRun duels, wich as a showdow run gammer I say sorta blows dead bears)
so, the deal with Clicks?
Simple rules (ie getting in is esay and then it is, kinda, down to strategy)
Everything comes prepainted (colour infused plastic models that actualy look rather good)
Not necesarily THAT expensive. It is a crack hoby much like Magic. You buy a box of minis, you don't know what your gona get and you assemble armies from there.
The games don't take ANYWHERE near as long as most TTS games do (thus alowing you to get a game or 2 in on your lucnh brak, kinda a cool thing, aint it)
The nifty thing about Clicks (that they stole from Reaper Minis) is that all stats are on the minis base, and when ever you take dmg yu simply turn the base a click (of dmg) and there are the new stats for that many HP.
So the drawbacks?
All the serious Table Top Gamers will Laugh at you, and I don't blame em that much <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
who ever can drop the most $$ into the game has a BETTER chance of winning b/c they will have rares and such.
It will suck your monet.
Yah, I spend ALOT of time down at the local Card/comic/gaming store ;P (I love them <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->)

Tau battle suits do not look fast. they look clunky, and their legs are way too small for the torso (and god forbid, the broadside guns... *boom*... *clunk* "darnit. i fell down.")
for fast mechs in GW's worlds, look to the eldar. Wraithguard/wraithlords are much more elegant.
Going further back, the old eldar phantom titan designs (before Epic 40,000... we're talking Adeptus Titanicus/Space Marine 1st ed. here). or if you want sleeker, the Eldar Knight Titans (smaller one man jobs)
even so, GW doesn't really do Sleek and Fast looking well.
Oh and Thansal:
The undead thingys are Necrons, the dwarves were called Squats, but GW had the tyranids eat them which is a shame, cos they were Heavy metal viking bikers. - briefly reappeared in Battlefleet gothic as the "demi-urg"
Can't post pics of my armies, cos they are all packed in boxes, but i can list them
3,500 points of Necrons
15,000 points of Imperial Ships for Battle Fleet Gothic
4,000 points of Stormchasers chapter Space Marines
~2,000 points of Adeptus Titanicus battle titans (Nightstrider legion)
oh, and my biggy (not 40k)
20,000+ points Warhammer fantasy Chaos (Tzeentch) and yes, i have played a battle with the whole lot (600+ minis) lasted 5 days, over a 10x6 table.
God i've been doing GW stuff for too long. But i've been to rehab, and i'm off them now... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> worse than crack I tells ya

<li>5 Tacticle Squads
<li>1 Scout Squad
<li>1 Landspeeder
<li>1 Command Squad
<li>1 Terminator Squad
<li>1 Dreadnought]
<li>1 Preditor
</ul>
I think thats it, might have missed something tho, it totals just under 2000points.
I always ended up calling em stumpies leading to some bad jokes being made ;P
-1 Hive Tyrant
-1 Zoanthrope
-3 Warriors
-1 Ravener
-12 Genestealers
-8 Termagants
-8 Hormagaunts
-2 Ripper Swarms
oh, and a real small bloodangels squad. 7 marines, 1 captain and 1 marine with flamer, but all painted up real nice <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Playing with them was like watching Zulu, except with the Imperial Guard you'd lose everytime!
"Men of Harlech stop your dreaming! Can't you see their spear points gleaming?"
<img src='http://josiahbartlet.free-host.com/pret-1.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
By the way I took that image from <a href='http://www.steve-dean.co.uk/images/40k/guard/guard.htm' target='_blank'>http://www.steve-dean.co.uk/images/40k/guard/guard.htm</a> but I thought I'd save the guy any bandwidth troubles by hosting it myself.
Space marines are the most collected army, hence every 10 year old who buys the game with his parent's money will immediatly collect Space Marines because "They're the best".
Unfortunatly, the "n00bie army" is fast becoming the Tau, which is a shame since I collect them. I chose them because they suit my playstyle (i.e, sit at the back and shoot lots), not because OMG TAU R TEH BEST0RZ!
If I didn't collect Tau (and I had a lot of spare cash.... and I learned to paint better) I would definatly collect Imperial guard. Hardly anyone plays IG (although more are beginning to with the new plastic Cadians out), and I just love the idea of 10 men for 50 points <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
As for you SeraphyGoodness, Tau battlesuit's legs are like that because they are supported by a Jetpack; even if they're walking on the ground the Jetpack is bound to take some of the weight off just through being switched on. Ooh, maybe this could be applied to NS <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
As for Broadsides... meh. They DO have different, larger, feet to regular suits, but their legs DO look too weak to support them. If I were a fire warrior I'm sure I would have great fun pushing the broadsides over before the battle <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Wimply Eldar weapons? <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> Eldar are best suited for taking out Space Marines <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> I've heard SM players say that "anything that negates a 3+ save is cheese". Eldar armies are full of them, some rapid firing. And you haven't seen anything until you've seen 20 Eldar Guardians with shuriken catapults and Guide take out Marine squads <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I've lost track of what exactly is in my Eldar army, its rather old so models have been lost/broken, ergo this is rather rough:
1 Farseer
1 Warlock
18 Guardians
9 Rangers
5 Dark Reapers
6 Banshees + 1 Exarch
10 Striking Scorpions (I think)
1 Falcon
1 Fire Prism
Several Jetbikes (no idea tbh)
6 Dire Avengers
Several Shining Spears + Exarch
Some Fire Dragons
Even although most of the Necron army is underpointed COUGH*MONOLITH*COUGH I still manage to take out a large percentage of their forces, while maintaing minimal casualties COUGH*SCOUTS*COUGH. My preditor is equiped with 2 lascanons and a twin linked lascannon, I purchased it especialy as my Monolith killing machine, expecialy due to its increadable range.
<!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->SpaceMarines pwn everything. Thats why NS rules.
<!--c2--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
</ul>
I'd like to see an Orc vs Tau battle. Total opposite armies.
I play Tyranids, and I converted these. They were entered into a competition and also displayed at the local store for some time.

Ok, that said, I must go laugh some more.
Once more I must laugh.
Ok, I'm done. Seriously, why do you people spend so much money on a simple game? Though...my friend has spent well over 600$ on his MechWarrior: Dark Age stuff. But he has a 2000 point Spirit Cat army, probably 1200 Draconis Combine army, 1500 Steel Wolfarmy, 1600 Davion Swordsworn army and 1000 Mercenary army.
As opposed to sitting online whining and crying at people who can actually paint/model just because I can't.
And its only as expensive as you want it to be - its not like they're forcing you to buy stuff. Hell, I only buy stuff to convert now.
Although I agree at some degree, these games are probably more productive than time wasted doing nothing.
I aspired once to collect some of of warhammer, but over time as I dreamed of huge armies and beautiful landscapes, the scope of reality hit me. Once I crossed the line, I would be what people now define: A TRUE GEEK. Not saying that posting here isnt geeky, but really, warhammer just perfects it. My friends poked fun at me and told me their thougtful points of view pertaining to this subject. They said that it wouldn't be worth spending 39 bucks Canadian for 9 pieces of plastic, and it is quite true. The crazy prices games workshop asks for their mediocre quality plastic assembles of Space Marines and what not is not worth it. The quality they put into those things does not justify the price, and I am serious. Not saying their pieces of dung, it is just way to much for smaller than pinky size plastic figures.
Instead I found something less expensive that had more application in the world, artistic drawing, with regular charcoals, pencils, and whatnot.
Now that I look back, I am truly thankful that I didn't spend some 250 dollars for a good base army, that in reality wouldn't benifit me in the long run.
As false as it may sound, warhammer is kind of a fad.
/puts on flamesuit.
As if I need anything else, on top of my video gaming and MtG gaming, to suck up all possible cash that I get...
