Rines had biodome hive with a good defense with turrets and such. We fended off a lot of attacks. But then the most organized attack I've seen happened. It consisted of 3 gorges, 2 lerks and one fade. The gorges came up the ladders first and all three build 3 OC's right off the bat. The two lerks umbra'd the entire time. Once the OC's were up, all three gorges bile bombed our phase gate and TF. The fade took on any marine trying to kill the gorges. I was quite impressed. Never seen that level of cooperation with the aliens. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->

Ahh, back in my days of 1.04. Me and some friends were chatting in the RR, and when we joined, the marines had been rushed (I was on marines with one of meh friends) and left without a CC or any IP's, and two of the guys were dead.

So, my friend took control of this rabble of marines, turned them into an elite fighting force, and stormed the hive -- and won.

The topic is: "best tactics you've ever seen", notice the past-tense. It is NOT "the best tactic to use [in ns 2.01]".

Thus, posting strategies to use or stating that no strategy is the be-all-end-all strategy is irrelevant. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Also, I don't think posting any tactics requiring 3 hives to be called "tactic"

Add how you got 3 hives without any problem and then maybe...

A nasty marine tactic is called 'Ringing the Wagons" - a lame name for a good tactic. Takes quite a bit of res, but, will throw massive wrences into the works of any alien assault. It is quite simple: at any corners or places where 2+ corridors meet, place an electrified TF, ring it with about 8 turrets, and 2 siege cannons. That will slow down anything. Be careful - this, as I said before, is a res hog and can block hallways if you aren't careful; making it hard for EVERYONE to move around.

In the spirit of the topic, I can tell you about the worst tactic that actually won. This was purely a stupid pub-play situation in ns_nothing, but what happened is, marine team had decided on a shotgun rush. However, they hadn't built more than an armory and an IP. We march off to what we think is their hive, cargo, but it turns out we went to the wrong one. Running back at full speed, we find the CC still there, RT still there, but the IP and armory gone. Rebuilding the IP and armory, we reequip the two guys who died, and deciding that we had to end this now, since we screwed up so bad, we started marching to what we thought was their REAL hive, power silo. Turned out we were wrong again. Writing the game off as lost, we just went to viaduct expecting to get our heads handed to us. Apparently, the alien team really just hadn't caught on. We wasted the hive with what ammo we had left, and sat back and laaaaaughed and laaaaaaughed and laaaaaaughed. It just didn't make sense, the server was a decent one, but I guess the aliens had written us off as relocated or doomed, and didn't take any precautions.

    teh 2 greatest tactics ever:

game starts on bast : all amrines ordered to amtospheric to build the rts. tehn a cc and ips in feedwater(which worked perfectly until some one realized tehre was a senseory in feed.) that was a quick game.

but the best ever was when teh marine team was given teh order one sunday from teh budda : "Patrol like death squads" - this was followed by mines and shot guns and 5 infantry portals- truely a memorable game

    nothing beats

    Aliens:

All aliens gorge, 3 drop MCs and all build. Gorges get Adren and rush marine starts. When aliens win, its ebarrassing for the marines. If they don't, well at least it was fun. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Building in the roof areas of Power Silo. Now THAT was... an experience...

One of the stranger, yet quite effective tactics I've seen on ns_nothing is this:

If the alien hive is Cargo, a marine relocate to the other end of the long vent between cargo and via will destroy them. You can hold the RT there, as well as Via and Ominous. This totally slows the aliens down because the long vent to cargo becomes an alien death trap, and for them to get to your IPs, they will have to circle around through gen and down that elevator to a long hallway where a few turrets can hold off practically anyone.

Marines who relocate here, then send a squad to Silo immediately can secure the map fairly quickly.

On Ns_Mineshaft. It was one of those games after an excellent "epic" game. Everyone was leaving and only the dedicated stayed on. 3 marines (no experience/brains) vs 6 aliens (clans/know how 2 play). The marines were getting demolished in every way possible and could barely get outa spawn. So aliens left them a while to grab rt around the map and the other hives. Midway between the second hive building, the marines sell their spawn and shotgun to the hive. From the selling of the ip noise the aliens thinks they'd just givin up and gonna start a new game with fairer teams. The hive becomes under attack and every alien believes someone else will get it and the attack ain't that serious, just a strangeler tryin 2 annoy us. Then... "the hive is dying" audio comes up... We couldn't believe it as the hive died. It only took 15 sec :S lol neway, love to see the underdogs win. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> I was an alien btw <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Good to see the marines read the situation and make use of it.

Well, i dont know about you guyz, but i seen a fairly good tactic, I used this on Tanith i think it was, sorry but i suck with the map names ;p ... well nez0rz, We started out, relocating to double res, sealed the nearby vents and kept a few rts we had, but were continuously knife'n Rts and placing them to give res, by the time we got HA and lvl 2 weapons, lvl 3 armor, They allready had 3 hives... so after losing so much res replacing RT's we decided to finaly save for HA and rush them, We took a squad of 7 Heavies, And ran them to Waste to put hopefully take down that hive, we kept 1 hvy gaurding base, the comm, and me sitting there, the only unequipd person <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> (keep in mind this was 10vs10), well neway, i asked for a shotgun, got it and ran rambo off to sat comm, while the HA train was attempting to take out waste, i was nailing off sat comm. 6 heavies fell, the last one took out the hive and died, i myself took down sat, then also died from 4 angry skulks, we got a 2 for 1 deal... we all came back a reequiped, ran back to the 2 hives and secured them, gaining 4 more res nodes, we now had double res, marine start res, sat comm res, the one outside sat comm ( forget the name ) west access rt by waste, waste res, and then we got the one rt up the ladder to outside sat comm, a total of 8 rts we controled now, ... things were looking good, little did we know there last upgrade for fusion was sensory... we got prepared and rushed fusion, taking that down quickly we cheered for the game was over, until we found that aliens we were spawning... we charged over to sat comm, finding that a hive was going up, took that down. and figured we won, but remembering you dont respawn at a hive that is still going up, so leaven a heavy behind to gaurd that, we ran to waste to find a hive that was up, but cloaked b/c of a sensory. we took that... finaly thinking it was over, it wasnt. We know ran to fusion and found a hive at 3000 hp slowly building up, finaly taking that out, we heard the best sound... us winning <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->... So basically, While a train goes for one hive, rambo a marine and take him to one of there others, while there screwed with the heavies, lil rambo takes out that hive, but this only works if the aliens try to save the hive, because if they say forget it and defend that hive, you wont be able to get it...

Also, another strat would be to RT ****, and at every rt, build a base.. i swear, at EVERY RT, and EVERY secure hive, we had the following, RT Electrified, TF electrified, phase gate, TF had siege upgrade, about 8-15 turrets, a observatory, and a armory/advance armory, by near end game every armory ( about 10 ) was advance armory, and a key locations we had a protolab, but throughout all that, every second of the game was hard because the aliens constantly had pressure on us, but we of course, prevailed in the end.
    weeee...
