but I have a request to make
Can we maybe back away from the religious discussions? Science too? Its a good idea, unfortunatly it will probably take a new forum rule to get it to happen.
I believe MonsE said it best

QUOTE

Another pointless religion versus science thread. As far as I'm concerned, they should be banned from the acceptable topic list, as it is impossible for anyone to agree and the discussions just become name calling crap (yes you boggle - calling people "fools" because you do not agree with them ever again in here will be a guaranteed ticket to read-only). The name calling is why this is now closed.
Folks, enough with the religious topics. They are, quite simply, not discussions, and no one is going to convince a person of science when he already believes that an invisible immortal man lives in the sky and runs the whole world with magical powers and mind control. Nor is anyone going to convince someone that believes in the scientific method that said invisible man exists.
It is completely pointless to "discuss". So stop it.

As for myself, I don't go bashing around, forcing my beliefs down throats.
The way monse described the situation was totally biased, no offence. If Monse had said the same thing other way around, it would have been like, "I don't see God, so there is no God, therefore you Christians are foolish noobs." But I understand where Monse is kind of coming from; faith and reason don't mix. I'll say it again, faith and reason don't mix. I won't be able to persuade a lot of you people into believing Jesus, and it'll probably take an act of God-in a form of spiritual experience, and an act of faith for a non-believer to truly believe.
It is pointless to discuss, because some people don't like to discuss things in a civil way. Were kind of arrogant.
But yeah, I find the meaning of life discussions involving God and science interesting, so why not?
Furthermore, if a discussion, in order to be considered worthwhile in MonsE's definition, needs to include a high probability of convincing your adversaries, all political topics would have to be banned as well. This view is nonsensical.
Finally, if you don't want to talk about religion, why not talk about something else? You can create as many threads as you want here. There is no need to police what other people talk about.
Argh you sound like a cliquey girl from a highschool "IF IT AINT POPULAR IT AINT WORTH DISCUSSIN'

Or my D.A.R.P.A technology, but its ok. I don't read the religion threads Kida, because its the same thing, asking each other to prove the impossible, anyway, thanks for listening to me anyway

memo to self: read all of the post before making yourself look like an idiot
sorry
I'm tossing up whether to put that Does God Believe in Atheists qoute in its own topic, cause I dont think Gemin answered it fully.......
I just might hold it for a while till the religious rush dies down...

'Nuff said. Take it up with him, heh
Stick around for a while, someone else will start another one when MonsE is feeling a bit more tolerant
Science vs. Religion is not debatable. Scientists believe there is incontrovertable evidence for their beliefs, while religious types have absolute faith in their own beliefs. Notice that each side backs up its position with a completely different form of support - evidence vs. faith. That is why you can't argue science vs. religion. Neither side is *willing* to talk it terms that the other (a) can understand and (b) will agree to accept.
Warning: generalization to prove a point:
Evolutionist: "Evolution exists because the fossil record supports it." --except that a Creationist doesn't believe the fossil record *does* support evolution.
Creationist: "Evolution doesn't exist because random chance can't possibly create complex structures like the human eye." --except that evolutionists believe precisely the opposite - that chance *can* (and did!) create those structures.
Each side has its own world view, and each side will not accept the arguments of the other.
If each new evo-vs-creation thread that came up brought new "meat" to the table, I'd be all for them. But they are the same arguments rehashed by the same people every time, and net progress is nonexistant. Not much point to them, then, except to get some of our less tolerant posters hot under the collar.
I rest my case
A debate between someone with a scientific worldview and someone with a religious one is like a sporting contest between a guy with a hockey stick and another with a squash raquet. They can't play the same game because they're using different equipment, and each refuses to play the game for which the other is equipped.
...And for all they know they're supposed to be playing basketball anyway.
The point to this forum is not for anyone to talk about anything without moderation. This may be the way of most internet sites, but we find it to be lazy and shortsighted. There are plenty of places to debate religion, so feel free to make use of them. Just not here.

The difference between a "scientific worldview" and a religious one is the same difference between people supporting different political sides - they beleive in different key issues. We're going to convert as many christians into atheists here as we will convert left wingers to right wingers.
Get over it folks and move on. The forum Gods have spoken, and it was good.

All that is well and true - but I hope we are not claiming that political discussions dont become flame-infested tripe. I member a few anti/pro Bush flamewars from not so long ago
Yeah - but flamewars wasnt the only reason MonsE was banning it - hence my ":P"
