I hope this change takes place. :)
From readyroom.org

Here is a little bit from the new changelog. Nothing is in stone but.. whoo hoo!!

O Make MT blips appear on minimap for commander and marines (bug #31)
O Don't draw motion-tracking circles for soldiers any more (just blips on their map)

As a Skulker.. this is VERY good news. As a marine it should leave me plenty paranoid knowing "something" is in the room with me but not knowing the exact location to point my gun.

this opens marines to attack a great deal yes. But not just because they can't see exactly where the enemy is, but because they'll be looking at their map too often and not on their main screen.

I liked it the old way. This sucks. If they knew where you were, fine- its your job as a skulk to make sure that didn't matter(which, I've been in late game, and ripped the hell out of 6+ marines with no trouble, when they had MT, lv2 armor, lv3 guns, and a damned good spam comm)

Well, while I can actually see both sides of this issue (though I've already made the side I favor clear) this is something that's going to be tested... I'm sure that if it improves gameplay, it'll stay, and if it turns out to make the upgrade useless it'll be modified again, either making it cheaper or making it better or whatever. I have no fears that 1.1 won't be brilliant. In this and in all other respects.

It could be good or bad, depending on the range at which the aliens will start to show up on the mini-map. We'll just have to wait and see.

yea i think the way it is now will end up being better, i dont like the sound of this new change.

The only thing I'm worried about is the impossibility of sneaking up behind a marine. In 2.01, you have to at least be looking in the direction of the alien for MT to help you. I'm sure the playtesters will work out all the kinks, but it's something to watch out for.

Sounds like a pretty good change! Now, instead of marines being able to only know the location of aliens 90 degrees infront of them, they will know the locations of all aliens on the map, regardless of direction they are facing! Woot! *edit* And for 10 less res!

Sounds like it would be pretty bad news to a "skulker". Marines will know your exact X and Y position, they will just not know the Z (from a map prespective. Off the map (but still using it to pin-point location), marines will know you exact X and Z coordinates, just not your Y. And Y isnt to difficult to figure out when you know X and Z.)

This is actually a marine buff, disguised as a nerf.

Uhm, have you played with MT at all? Currently it shows circles where an enemy is, and the circles get smaller when the target is farther away. So it currently shows you exactly where an alien is, on all 3 axis'.
Besides, by the time marines have MT, you're likely to have 2 hives, and Mt won't help much against a skulk that leaps across half the minimap and bites you in an instant.

......And its staying at 45 res?You have gotta be joking.

Do you know how much MT will suck for pubs now?

This is beta. Don't judge about things you don't know.

-> Reduced motion-tracking cost from 45 to 35

one of the key things about this is that MT is no longer like SoF... they're now very different abilities ^^

I just hope it stays like that too, most marines are probably less likely to notice my lil blip vanishing off their map as I stop moving to ambush than they are to notice this giant blue circle on their screen suddenly dissapear
Well... that and it makes it more like the MT you'd think of with aliens films coming to mind at least ^~

In that case, I'd quite like to see the map....

O : Moved to a better spot on screen (bottom left being preference rather than top right)
O : Make the background of it transparent

Any chance? Just my 2c.

In fact, what's the chance of the map going a bit more llike the spectator overhead going in there? Would this even be a good thing? I dunno.

Hmm... if the map MT showed blips further than the limits of the HUD map, this might open up quite an interesting new role for marines.. the-guy-holding-his-map-key-and-shouting-alien-positions-at-his-team-mates-er! (so I suck at making names ).

Then i want to make bleeps are you get closer, lol. And right now MT is't the uber pwn like it was in 1.04 since cloak bloaks MT(the slow walk to stay cloaked works too) now, its good the way it is, if you want to be sneaky get sence, you get stealth over health(dc) or speed(mc)(unless you got 3 hives). And if you stoped moveing you don't show up on MT eather. And SOF is better in all ways but range right now, It can see you no matter what upgrade, no matter how fast/slow/not moving at all. Add this in SOF will be even better.

In the current version of NS (2.01) MT is not worth getting until you have the game in the bag. Your early res is much more important for upgrades to deal with fades. MT does little to help you with fades. reduced cost is nice, but lets hope that this is one of those experimental changes. Otherwise MT will be useless. I guess it'll keep nublet skulks happy though

Wow good for aliens...not good for me as i comm often.
Now i see why they also nerfed the cost of MT to 35.
Oh well its worth it.
Check out all the price nerfs.

Incorrect.

It is not a nerf, nor is it a boost.

While you know aliens exactly locale, you also can never use it in combat, something MT used to do. It's a double edged sword. It's for recon now, not actually wallhax bonus. Unless, you can play with a big mini map in your face...

I do indeed love this change. However, it's probably gonna get changed a bit soon, so I wouldn't get any of your hopes up/down.

Guys, remember, changes aren't final, don't **** about them!!

I think the new change as it sounds now would be a major marine buff.
The marines don't need "the guy who holds down the map key" they have the comm for that. Back in 1.04 when I commed I'd use MT to locate gorges and converge my team on them. Now I can do that again. Also, you see a skulk coming, warn your team and prepare a medpack for the soldier most likely to get bit first. And when the get the big aliens you can use your map to converge your troops on them.

Basically it adds another role for the comm. He has to be the big Eye in the Sky, watching over the map and seeing where the aliens are going. If he does a good job of communicating what he sees and adapting to it the marines will have an easier time winning. If the comm is like most pub comms who don't have a mic and don't give orders on the fly it won't help any.

well, the fact that the minimap doesn't change direction along with you (up = front of you) will make it quite hard of access to new players.
• FrikkFrikk Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 3164Members, Constellation
There's a new flashlighty thing which tells you which direction your facing. It's very spiffy. You can see it in some of the new SS I think.
• Cereal_KillRCereal_KillR Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1837Members
Indeed. Maybe now you'd be able to look at the minimap from the corner of your eye.
• PrometheusPrometheus Join Date: 2003-04-25 Member: 15825Members
I hope the devs are thinking about cosmetic upgrades as well - The minimap feels more like a game menu than a TSA:s soldiers hud.

If this could be achieved, both for the toggable map and the minimap in upper left corner, and maybe with some nice Alienesque tracking (Blip.. Blip.. Blip..) it would be.. really sweet.

Ok first off, if you've posted here telling us how much you hate the MT in this new beta patch, and under your name are the words "Group: Members" then SUYF because you have no god damn idea if it is better or worse or anything because you haven't seen it ingame.

For the more civilised of you who managed to stay rational as you speculated, I'd like to add that this new way of having MT work could prove extremely useful, as it would now let you see things coming up behind you...

Especially useful when you are building... Though perhaps they could think about taking alien players off the minimap (so that the only way to spot em would be through MT)?
• Anonymous_CowardAnonymous_Coward Join Date: 2003-08-15 Member: 19768Members
Basically, Revenge, you are saying that anybody with anything bad to say about this is doing something wrong. IOW, speculation. Saying ANYTHING about this is the exact same speculation. So don't expect to shut up the naysayers just because you might like the idea. If you want to stop speculation, then set the example and practice what you preach. Civilized? Rational? Yeah, whatever.

It is WAY to early to say anything about this right now. So please, no more.

It's one thing to say that this new feature might be either good or bad, it's a completely different thing to say that this new feature is either good or bad.
