I've prided myself on being an egg defender when I'm alien, and an egg slaughterer as a marine. Because I play Kharaa more often than marines, I watch people, and myself, and see where they like to evolve into something. So I have a bit of an advantage because I know what areas to keep my ears open for the sounds of a gestating egg. But usually I'm an egg defender on the Kharaa side.
One funny experience was under the metal bridges in Maintenance hive in ns_ecliplse, I noticed a marine jump into the pit, going after a teammate who had been gestating for a few moments. I jumped down to try to stop him, he got a slice off on the egg, then my teammate hatched and quckly slaughtered the marine with freshly-hatched fade claws.
In my most memorable egg save, three marines came into Archiving hive on ns_hera and began knifing a teammate who was in an egg. Despite all my efforts to bite at them and distract them while they were en route to the egg (maybe ten feet or so), nothing worked, and they began making mince-meat out of the gestator. I then realized that we had just gotten our third hive up; **mouse-wheel scroll**click**click**BOOM**. Once I was leaping from the upper walkway into horseshoe when my cat leapt at me (ironically enough), causing me to accidentily bring up the right click menu and become and egg mid leap. I landed right at the feet of a marine.
