I don't doubt jesus' existance, though i doubt the stories and exaggerations the people have made up about him.
I don't doubt the values or conclusions of the writings of the bible. He did tell people he healed not to spread the news because that causes rumours. The bible is the word of God. If you dont believe that, then you would not believe anything else that God was saying. Keeping all his teachings in one place allowed Jesus to have control over what was recorded - making sure his disiples got the correct message and it was not twisted in any way

Almost all of his closest followers deserted Him in the end, afraid of their own death. See Peter's denial of his friendship with Jesus.
Christ did not come as one that would immediately place himself on the throne and conquer all of His enemies, instead, He came to be the suffering servant. If He had wanted every knee to bow to Him, then He would simply have asked God to make it happen. However, He did not come to glorify Himself, but God the father. By being the messiah, all that he HAD to do was die, tell a few people about what He did, and that would be all. A few people like Paul, Peter, Silas, and Barnabas went around and set up dozens of churches, teaching just how much the life of Christ really meant, that every single person could reach heaven, through the grace of God made possible through Christ's self-sacrifice.
There are several times where Christ has the choice not to fulfill that role, when satan tempts Him, and when He flat-out states that all He need do is ask for protection, and 12 legions of angels will carry Him away. He had to die in the most horrible, dispicable manner possible, because that was what He became, simply because He chose to take all the sin from so many people onto Himself.
Not many people will believe someone on death row, much less someone hanging from a cross outside of the city gates.
Well you can talk about the religious implications of the end of the world, but that's where the end of the world talks end and religion begins.
