The Removal Of _special

After talking things over with Hambone, I convinced both he and Flay to get rid of the _special command in NS. For those of you who dont know, the _special command is used to write repeating/looping scripts with 1-3 functions. Currently, the _special command is only being used for bunnyhop scripts, and pistol scripts in 2.0, which are both tested and work (no I will not post the scripts so that you may "try them") This command is one of the main reasons bunnyhopping skill has increased so drastically in NS over the past few months. For those of you who do know about it, and or dont, it is being removed in the next patch. This will remove the extreemely unbalanced bunnyhop scripts, and 2.0 pistol scripts out of NS. The only reason I am posting is just to let you all know, and to give those of you using these scripts a chance to start learning how to bhop <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> .

    Thats a cute idea, but it really won't change anything for jump scripts. And if you can't max the pistol out without a script you have arthritis :/

    i dont like scripts cause u can do the same if u have skills...all they do is give u the skills faster than if u were to try to pefect them urself

    the ETAC (controls all the major TFC EU leagues rules) has banned this command for over a year nowuse of this command for the purposes stated above , good idea and well done to you m8.

    And Lucid is right, this won't solve anything. I have, like many people, +attack bound to mwheelup and mwheeldown, takes nothing to fire off a whole clip (although they did do some changes to that in 2.1, so pistols are slower). Its no secret.

    _special never worked in NS in the first place. I tried it a long long time ago when I first converted from TFC so it's not a big deal..

    Chem, as I posted before, it has been tested and it works quite well. Your lack of scripting knowledge, or a typo, could have made it not work. Lucid the problem with the pistol script is not the firing speed, its the fact that you can hold mouse2 and aim twice as well as you could spamming left click.

    Yep...the only thing that will be affected is MAYBE pistol ROF in the first week or so of 2.1 release. then people will get wise and change their cfgs and such. emptying a pistol clip as fast as possible isnt hard.

    Yea, but not all scripts are evil. Some of them are useful to make things easier like a command menu with easy useful commands. Especially if you play steam ns 2.0. X.x

    Pathetic, all you need is a jump script.


    It will kill a lot of pistol scripts, but again, big deal. I encourage Flay to continue this, because those who practice hardcore with the pistol should have an advantage over those who don't.


    However, even if you remove the _special command you will still have pistol scripts, they just won't be very good.

    didnt NS used to have antiscripting? special worked in 1.0x but not in 2.0x. why was antiscripting taken out? maybe for communication scripts i guess. ah well. no _special will make the hamptons a better place for all.

    Bah!, i dont see the big deal about _special, just makes it to you have to hold a button instead of scroll a wheel. (tho yer, it does make you go a bit faster).

    First I've heard of "_special". Are bunnyhopping and pistol scripts the limit of what this can do? It sounds useful as a scripting tool. Anywhere I can find info on it?

    yer, the like 1-2 months untill 2.1 will prolly come out... yeah thats nothing.

    And _special is banned in high level leagues eg ozfl TFC etc, so obviously its a bit more then just a simple "scripting tool"; there must be more too it then just faster pistols and faster bhop.
