    I had to shoot them, and then another german takes his place and I shoot him too. But the point is that they tell me to lay down supressive fire. So I do. It does nothing. Why the hell didn't they just say 'run out there and kill every damn Nazi you find'.

    See, there's a difference between killing a target and supressive fire...

    I got CoD and finished it in around eight hours. Bland levels here and there, but overall it was an enjoyable game- better than MoH, in my opinion. Sometimes, the objectives were a little confusing, but only in mild cases where I'd failed to spot something blindingly obvious (take the situation where two officers who need to be assassinated are at the front of a building and I didn't notice).

    Graphically it was superior but nothing ground-breaking, but it was stable and capable of creating some bloody enormous levels.

    As for AI, suppressing fire did stand out... I doubt even fascist fanatics would stand up in a window frame being filled with machine gun fire... not to mention that allies were occasionally suicidal, and I don't mean in the scripted charge sense- I mean in the sense of a Russian SMGer bellowing "Grenade!" and actively running towards the distant explosive <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> Otherwise, it was quite impressive.

    I don't know about the rest of you but I played it first time (and last time playing it the whole way through)
    on veteran level (whats the point in taking a million shots and having medpacks lying all over, its war for god's sake) and the only hard parts were defending the bridge where you needlessly died every second, requiring you to save every half a second and defending the apartment building with the russians,
    in which case I tryed to find a nice spot to hide in each but there was always two entry ways for germans to
    come pouring out of.
    I was half-way through it the night I got it and i finished it the next morning, no bother.
    Oh, and its based on a ramped up rtcw engine, I know its still Q3 but look and you'll see very disticnt features of rtcw in it.

    Having medpacks is a requirement for a war game like CoD or else you would just die every second. I remember playing Operation Flashpoint whenever you get shot ONCE you die so i just camped behind my teammates and use them as human shields.

    You can call for a medic in OFP, using the radio. If, that is, you're lucky enough to have one with you, and only if he's still alive. Also you can normally take around 2-3 shots in that game, unless it's a headshot.

    I made a visual basic game once, it was called "Black Out: Welcome to California." You clicked on the boxes and it changes the color of the boxes next to it, and there were a bunch of options... (I specifically remember forgetting to code the File->Exit tab...but whatever).

    Man, it was (more) fun (than Counter-Strike...I win).

    It was impossible to win with some options though.

    I don't see ANYTHING wrong with Call of Duty. Sure, its no Unreal 2, but with the Unreal Engine, well, that engine couldn't handle that many people on screen if they were given 3 more years to tweak it(BAD code...why there are so few mods. They screwed up somewhere between UT2k3 and U2...<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->)Q3 was the only viable thing they had, and they did great with it.

    And sure, the AI wasn't great, but it gets the job done, definately, and in wonderful fashion.

    Also, While the british campaign was weak(cept for first 2 missions), everything else was great. WONDERFUL. GODLY.

    Multiplayer Kicked **** too.

    Sound is best I've ever heard.

    The other campaigns were semi-good, American coming in second, followed by the British.

    The only good map on the British campaign was the Pegasus Bridge, the others were just "bleh".

    Agreed, although for sheer scale the dam was the most visually impressive, yet sadly the worst mission <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Unreal 2... can't believe I actually bought that utter bile. The graphics were top notch but actual gameplay? Less sophisticated than Quake 1, and that's no exaggeration.

    But what is good graphics? It runs smooth as melting butter on my pc, which I am pretty darned happy for these days. Only when using the scoped rifle in heavy assault maps with lots of HMG fire do I sense slowdows. Otherwise its very smooth, and THAT counts for a lot of graphical quality in my book. Who cares for a purdy game like Unreal 2 when it runs like pants?

    Prolly the only real reason I bought the game, there was alot of talk about how good the SDK was going to be, and how people could make the game feel way more real (IE taking out stupid crap like living when taking a KAR98 round point blank in the spine)

    Well we've said it plenty of times in this topic, but once more doesn't hurt!

    The multiplayer is excellent, but it excels on maps where both the sniper rifles and the FG42 are disabled - if you want to snipe fine, but it's much more fun using the bolt-action rifles and SMGs: accurate enough to make it non-frustrating but challenging enough to make it not a case of point-click-dead.

    Game modes are nice and varied, with 'Behind Enemy Lines' and 'Retrieval' being personal faves. 'Search and Destroy; is fun too, but it has a certain flaw in that every Allied soldier can plant the bomb and every German can defuse it, but A) The bomb fuse is way too long and B) Once the bomb is defused the round is over, surely it would be more enjoyable if the game continued until the bomb was exploded or the timer ran out?

    Out of the 12 maps, I only enjoy 8 of them. The other 4 aren't bad by any means, just not up to the high quality of the others. What CoD really needs is more original maps; most of the 12 are copied from the single-player campaigns. The release of the mapping SDK should let the custom maps flow, bolstering this aspect of the multiplayer.

    Overall, it's a damn sight more enjoyable than CS or, more importantly, DOD. Not quite up to NS standards though, but what is? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    In the first patch they'll be adding more maps, Russian and British pistols and a few portable MGs too. Bonus bonanza!

    Yeah, sniping is perhaps a bit too easy in the current CoD. I like how sniping is implemented in DoD. And that hopping removes your gun for a split second. It takes time to set yourself up after landing, and more importantly, to prepare for sniping.

    I dont understand the 'nethype surrounding this game. The demo wasnt anything unique, and the graphics looked like Half life...

    That's being a tad wee harsh. Half-life? Come on, those textures are a lot crisper. The model of each soldier is excellent. And the sound is unsurpassed. The tell-tale KA-CHIIIING "Hey, enemy, I just ran out of bullets come get me" sound made by the ejecting, empty Garand cartridge will wet a lot of old army recruits pants Im sure.The game runs smooth, smooth smooth. isn't that impressive? It doesn't look like plastic such as Unreal Tournament 2003 does. I don't know how many new games Ive being pants on my pc, a 2100 XP+ with a Geforce 3. Unreal 2, Halo. Slow, slow. I don't care for pretty games when they are slow. Slow like a blondine trying to figure out where the door handle is on the revolving door. Nice to look at but HELLOOOOO! ANYONE HOOME? CoD is both nice looking AND it's not stupidly slow. I think that counts for most. That bird got charm in wheelbarrowloads.

    Gameplay is also rather enjoyable for a shooter. I have not completed the singleplayer yet, but it is a mix of some very warlike frenetic scenarios with a little uninspired missions mixed in. Overall Call of Duty is worth it.

    [edit] I just finished the british campaign. There are 3 campaigns overall with a finale involving all sides at once or something.

    I guess I'm a bout 50-55% through the game. There are some rather silly "rail shooters" during the game, such as you shooting germans off trucks and motorcycles during a wild truck chase that reminds me of The movie The Eagle's Nest. I like the real war missions the best, whereas the "SAS" special ops missions are annoyingly familiar. I don't find it amusing to be gunning down 101 german sailors on my own.

    I play on Veteran and that makes the game pretty tough. But good. I only save when the game makes an autosave, which makes for some interesting situations.

    I'll try multiplayer as soon as I'm done with the campaigns.
