If you have a version of steam that is bugged. Why not remove it and wait till NS is released. Than you can install a fresh clean NS friendly version. The version I DLed to be a PTer works awesome and has never given me a problem.
****! I can't wait! And NS combat looks interesting, rambos will finally have soemthing productive to do <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo-->

I just want NS on steam more than anything else, it's annoying having to have 2 hl installs and steam is about 10x better than WON was. I can actually connect to servers with steam, half the time WON just says that the server doesn't exist <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->
<b><span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>Natural Selection v3.0</span></b> Natural Selection: Combat<img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/images/nsc_logo-sm.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'> Natural Selection: Combat is a new fast and furious gameplay mode focusing on intense action. Combat games generally last less then ten minutes, and require very little knowledge to play.
New maps - Six new Combat maps, made just for Combat. Enjoy a combat-simulation on "daimos", battle over rock and water on "core", or enjoy non-stop action on "faceoff".
New upgrades - New Combat-specific upgrades like "resupply" and personal scanner sweep give you help when you need it.
Gain experience - Get experience for killing the enemy, or for attacking their base. As you gain experience, you gain levels. Each new level lets you choose a new upgrade, weapon, or piece of equipment. Even after death, you retain these power-ups.
New look - Over 150 new textures and new NS maps give the game a whole new look. Fight in the claustrophic halls of ns_ayumi, catching a glips of snow falling outside a catwalk, or take control of the awe-inspiring and incredible ns_agora.
Catalyst-packs - New "catalyst-packs" allow Commander to speed rate of fire and movement of marines for a short duration.
New lerk - New flight model for the "Lerk", allowing smooth and precise flapping and gliding (he also has his bite back!).
New spectator interface - All-new spectator mode is easier to use and ideal for match commentators.
New manual - The manual has been totally re-written to include a "quick start" guide, and detailed information on every weapon, ability and structure.
Other features - New chat and font system, the ability for mappers to pre-place structures in maps, 'votemap' command, new scoreboard, new alien "focus" upgrade, and much more.
<b>STEAM and VAC support</b><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/images/steam_logo.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
Full Steam support - Official Steam support, including a new NS desktop, friends list, and automatic updating. NS will be listed under the "My Games" section (not as a 3rd-party mod).
VALVe Anti-Cheat (VAC) - VAC means that NS and Half-life are updated automatically when new cheats are found. Any cheaters detected by the system are immediately temporarily or permanently banned across all NS servers.
<b>Balanced and tested</b><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/images/join-const.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
Extensively tested - Extensive playtesting with over 100 NS clans and hundreds of Constellation members will mean the most balanced and fun NS yet.
Massive improvements - Over 200 bugs and exploits have been fixed in this version, along with dozens of other improvements. These include "sinking" structures, better hitboxes for players and structures (even for wall-walking skulks!), skulk prediction fixes, and hundreds more.
NS v3.0 will be available this holiday season. Check this page for updates...
Having played more than my fair share of the beta, I personally think going for a full version change again is somewhat silly. Combat is a huge difference but it's a side option to the real game, and as far as Classic is concerned it hasn't changed nearly as much as 2.0 did, not even close. I'm not going to get worked up over this because it's so trivial, but the primary game mode doesn't seem changed enough to warrant 3.0. Whether or not Combat justifies that is of course up to debate.
Regardless it's still a great patch and I'm sure by the time it's fully balanced for release I'm sure it will meet everyone's expectations.
I hope that the delicated server files will be released latest on 22 December 2003 US Time. This is to accommodate people in asia countries and even those living in Syndey, where their and our time is around 16 to 24 hours ahead of US time.
By the time the client files are released, around 23 December 2003, it is already 24 December 2003 here. Thus, the server admins had only <b>ONE</b> day before they go off for a long holiday break.
Thus, I hope that the release date can be as below (better yet, earlier)... <!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->

not to distract from more important posts, but a year is a long time
a lot of not so successful games fizzle out after a year
indeed, in the old days even successful, famous FPSes were phased out w/ new games in a year and a half..
Counter-Strike went from a relatively obscure project (altho by a semi-known modder) to the ###### retail times in a little more than a year - freaking retail! I.. should post something about these things in off-topic
