Heh, there's not much to talk about when it comes to China. Both American and European policy is that if we're polite to them, they'll go away and leave us alone. You never know, it might happen. :/

America isn't all that different. Behaviour has to be looked at in the context of the times, and I can't help but feel that you're looking at countries in Europe from a modern day, American perspective. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Err, not actually. I'm looking at it from a context of history and not really judging - what I said is pretty accurate, if you filter out the hyperbole. They were overly concerned with taking over the world before. Now they are scared to be involved much at all. Straightforward stuff.

I think it comes down to culture. For the longest time there was an emporer in China untill the whole Mao thing, people welcome a dictator in some cases because they are USED to it, and probably like the thought of one man having the power, able to make quick descions, and you gotta admit, a NICE dictator wouldn't be bad at all.... The russians have a similar case, where they had a near totalitarian leadership for most of its existance...

I hope that the Communists in russia do the right thing. United Russia seems a bit eery....

The chinese as many other asian cultures are heavily influenced by both buddhism and confucianism. IT has led some boffins to proclaim that this makes them particularly obedient compared to the boisterous westerners. Just think angered french farmers protesting and blockading the road traffic in entire southern france and you know of what I think of.

I think Russians are more like rest of Europe than they are like Chinese, mentally. Just that if they did anything like that they used to get a bullet to the head IF THEY WERE LUCKY. The unfortunate ones ended up in Gulags for the rest of their lives.
