Hmmm. I started messing around with textures and stuff, and this is what I got. I just mutilated some old Quake3 textures made by Rorshach, as well as some images of trees I found using a google search.
I don't know if I'll finish a whole map.
Want to share these textures, and maybe the brushwork I used to make the trees? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

This is not a serious map, its alot smaller than a normal map, alot less detailed, not properly lit, largely focuses on outdoor arenas and based around Christmas and santas workshop. Going through the NS Guidelines I wouldn't call that a serious map, but a fun map. IT may meet some requirements but not all of a 'serious map'. Either way get it done, I want to dance in the readyroom to music as gorge, with Santa singing in the background! <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> I don't believe it says in the Guidelines, that maps must be of a certain size or detail. So long as the r_speeds are 700 max in first person and 1000 max in commander mode and the hives are equidistant. By no means would this get accepted as official (Laff, Laff) but it DOES meet all requirements. Just because the premise is silly, it doesn't mean the gameplay couldn't be serious.
I see why some would call this a "fun" map sure but that was not my goal with this map and if it comes to be known as a fun map I probably won't release it at all. Yes it is small. No, few areas are outdoors, only Marine Spawn and the Candy Cane Fields are outside, the rest takes place inside caves or santa's shop. Furthermore, on the not properly lit... what would you call proper? I use a light_spot for the outside sun and texture lights everywhere else. If you have seen "light" entities in screenshots, those are test lights and not how the map will actually look. I will be writing the .rad file myself and using a chop 32 / smooth 80 / extra on my RAD settings, how improper is that?

I'll be the one to commit forum necromancy here. Did this map ever get finished and/or officially given up on? Or is it just still in production, and not worried about the holidays? It looked like it would be worth a few good plays. Can I get a word from the map-meister?

Also, if a few more people want to do Christmas maps we could put out a Christmas map pack for servers to run on Christmas Day / Eve.
