    Most of the textures i'm using will be from my own wad of textures created by myself, edited shaderlab ones (in the case of the rock) and other textures made for me by people like Kornflakes. I may release the wad prior to finishing it though for people to use my them. Dunno, *shrug*.

    Thats good, we need more 'custom' NS Textures and WAD packs, there was a discussion on Snarkpit Forums about how recognisable and so commonly used the NS WAD sets are. Good luck. Map looks nice ( I think I commented at Snarkpit). To be honest the only thing a little out of place is those Yellow glow things near the hive, emitting red light.

    Make sure you keep track of clipnodes in that beast. I want to be able to play it someday. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Now that you have the visual style figured out for a few areas, you might want to just rough in the rest of the map and get any layout issues resolved. That would also give a better sense of how many clipnodes you can throw into areas.

    I was actually just thinking about doing that. Just creating the very bare bones in terms of layout just with the things that could effect gameplay like raised areas and stuff just so i can a) test what i've done thoroughly and b) see how the layout holds out.

    I've been fine tuning the layout on paper a lot lately (amazing how much you can do if you switch off in school <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ) but it's still not finished right now. I'm unhappy with how unconnected the third hive is so i'm trying to work out a better way of organising it. I'm hoping my experience with NS will mean i've got an idea of how a good map should feel and play.

    Interesting times.

    First off, wow wow wow wow wow. You've certainly come a long way from da_ben_man mate. Fantastic screenshots, certainly the most beautiful map i've ever seen in the half-life engine.

    Second, I know it can be frustrating for you to have 3 pages filled with "omg wow" - while it's certainly glamorous, it doesn't help much. So i've decided to pick apart your screenshots as much as i possibly can. Keep in mind that I think your map is absolutely amazing in every way, but you probably want SOME criticism.

    Wires. Clean wires go straight into the infested wall. Doesn't look right...

    On the horizontal supports, the side textures look misaligned. Try rotating them 90 degrees.

    Awe-inspiring lighting indeed.

    Very nicely done.
    Although those "crystals" don't fit at all... and the rock looks like that in some places, needs support to stay there.

    I suggest to take out those crystals and replace them by spotlights that are being held on by spoke drilled into the rock.

    Leave the crystals be; it adds an exotic and unique aspect to the area, generic spotlights just wouldn't do.

    Let's asume for a minute that your brain is where your mapping power comes from.
    Now let's also asume that i was a strange canibolizing person that believed i could gain someone's powers by eating the appropriate body part.
    Now let's once again asume that i was able to track down Ben here and knock him out with a stout cudgle, and remove his brain for consumption.
    Asuming all the above, would i be able to create maps like this after eating Bens brain?

    Brain ala Ben.

    Serving size: 1.

    Ingredients:

    2 years mapping experience.
    1 Resonable understanding of photoshop.
    1 Prolonged exposure to NW level design team including people like KFS, tommyd and KenBanks to name a few.
    2 Desires to improve work
    Pinch of insanity

    This version of MrBen is prone to exploding/imploding at random intervals. Thoroughly pad inside of oven with various flame retarded explosion buffers.

    Heat oven to 325 degrees and add 2 years mapping exposure and 1 resonable understanding of photoshop and bake gently for 10 minutes.

    Remove from oven and sprinke prolonged exposure to NW level design team and insanity according to taste.

    Cut into 2 inch squares and serve cold.
