But did you actually expect a Sept. 30 release? While it's pretty obvious they had infintely more done then what was in the HL leak (C'mon the E3 demo levels were incomplete even), for being less then two weeks from release date, Testament is right: Where's the advertising? The hype? <b>FFS there weren't even any game reviews and they always review the game before it goes gold</b>.

We seem to be forgetting that the HL2 leak was old when it came out to E3.

Important Fact Right there, it wasn't the complete up-to-date version of HL2

True, Ven. I didn't really fiddle with the leak...I just wanted to see the phsyics, which were indeed, sexerific. I'll probably only buy HL2 when MODs start coming out, though.

Unlike the HL2 'alpha' and unlike the doom 3 build this thing is <b>old</b> and not intended to be any sort of a playable alpha of the game with any sort of story.

This is from the engine.log file from the leaked build(1096):

    "XRay Engine" build 1114
    Compilation date: May 19 2002

(And yes I dled it, no I did not DL the HL2 'alpha'), there are _some_ enemies(of course, their dumber then head crabs, but still) and the sounds are like placeholders they snitched from CS or something(they are the exact CS sounds...), the physics system is not in place.

But still, this game runs so smoothly and looks so nice, I even tried it on an mx440 and it pushes about 200k polygons at 30 fps and a lot of them are alpha testing/blending ones like trees and bushes and grass and such at 800x600... that's really quite impressive.

And yes, unless the story line is worse than old wolfenstein 3d <b>I am so buying this game!!111</b>. I don't know where some people get the idea that people who D'L leaked demos/alphas of games won't be buying them, do you think the same applies to the playable demos that companies willfully realease near launch?

    Welcome to the Internet.

I'd like to see one game that WASN'T leaked (other than the ones that were so bad no one bothered)... <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
indeed, wasn't NS v1.0 leaked a couple of days early? Or something about some people getting playable versions from the mapper thingy kit?

Games that weren't leaked are usually just FREE mods.

Believe me when I say that if I had money, I WOULD but the game.
The only income we get is my moms social help. So I am pretty much forced to play pirated games with mah crappeh Radeon 9100

    Damn Straight.

The latest patch for Halo makes it nice and sweeter than the Xbox version (well, if you've got a better PC than mine)...

Perhaps that is because of the amazingly powerful work ethic in Russia/Eastern Europe. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Oh, BTW, I don't care who takes the game as long as it's available for me to buy. If they raise prices BECAUSE of pirating (which has probably already happened) I'm done with retail.

i also heard ns 3.0 was leaked...

    <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=48200' target='_blank'>OMG HAX!!!</a>

NS 1.0 wasn't leaked. It was people like me installing it via the server release to get some experience learning how to pay before the OFFICIAl release. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

By releasing a build with an engine compiled in may 2002(with no source code or anything such) that will only make people more interested in stalker(if anything)? If you ignore the part about it being horrible bussiness ethics, yeah, brilliant <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->.

haha, horrible business ethithics seem to be common place in the gaming industry these days

    <a href='http://www.beta-7.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.beta-7.com/</a>

This website claims that sega released a game that causes violent outbursts, has documented evidence of "injuries" substained during these outbursts, and in the end claims that sega killed the maker of the website in an effort to stop his movement. In the end some of the guys at Haxan (the film studio responsible for the blair witch project) admitted that they were involved in a marketing scheme with sega. It doesn't change the fact that sega created a massive online hoax that manipulated as much as at 2.5 million people, in the end, all in the name of sales. It might be funny when some guy runs a hoax, but this kindof corprately sponsered thing, to me, just pushes over the edge.

I highly doubt Sega was behind that site at all.

    ...

you guys took beta-7 seriously? XD

Reminds me of the Ghost show the BBC did that ended in the studio getting wiped out, lights exploding, people screaming and the transmission getting terminated... super convincing stuff that scared the heck out of me and my friends (we were all of 8 or something at the time =3 ) but looking back I wish more people did stuff like that. Won't though considering thousands of sour-pusses mailed complaints to the BBC because it ruined their dull, boring little day... I swear people have no sense of fun or adventure anymore -.-

I highly doubt anyone took it seriously, but I highly doubt it was a marketing ploy by Sega.

you need to look into the evidence again, on the first page of the NFL2K4 handbook there is a cerial code that numerically spells out "crashcam". That on top of the videos of the sega exects and statements from haxan employees, Pretty much, If sega wasn't responsible for that website, they soon decided they were gonna cash in on it.

[edit] just watch the Ifilm video, the video was clearly professionally done.
