Is Most Of The Community Still On Won

Or has everyoen moved on?
I remember about 2 months ago when I started playing NS, I was part of the steam community, while most people still played it on WON. What I've wondered is if you guys still mostly play on WON. Is most of the community still there?

Yes, there's not many steam servers with people in them.
Personally I'm just waiting for 3.0 so I can delete my old Half-Life installation.

I'm only on steam right now. I don't even have HL installed ( except the steam hl).

I don't really know. I'm on steam only but most of the server are not very good. They are slow or laggy or the ppl there are not very friendly (or speak a language I don't understand )

1039 Players on 348 WON servers vs 230 Players on 61 Steam servers.

Same here. I've only run Steam for a long time.

I would say at any given point, there are 1000-1200 people on WON and 100-200 or so on steam.

I'm not bothered about using Steam, but there are some bugs with menus and such with playing NS 2.01 on Steam at the moment as it wasn't coded to be run on Steam. That's the main reason I still play NS on WON, I assume it's the same for most other people. That and virtually everyone's favourite servers being on WON still.

I think steam is will be great, but i dont want to mess around with bugs, and neither do the other leaders of nsarmslab. We'll stay won untill it fully supports ns and is no longer as buggy.

I think the 3.xx release will be what finally switches people over to steam. It really isn't a matter of steam supporting NS, but of NS supporting Steam.

Steam works much better for me now, though I still get weirdo crash bugs from time to time (though the only major one less is one I got sometimes with WON too).

I'll move onto Steam after valve speeds up freaking VAC!
  • SpazmaticSpazmatic Join Date: 2003-05-10 Member: 16184Members
I'd say most people will switch over when one of two things happen... 3.0 is released, or WON shuts down. Whichever comes first.

As for me, I'm on Steam, but that's mainly because I don't feel like keeping 2 installations of Halflife around (memory issues), and, sooner or later, I'll have to convert anyways. In the end, laziness always wins.

I use both. My only problem with steam is the lack of LAN without an intenet connection. I am on a labtop and make maps (or try to), so there are times when I need to play and do not have an internet connection. The other reason I still use Won for NS is because that is where the players are mostly. To be completelt honest, they could shut down Won tommorrow, or give up Steam and stick with Won, wither way, I don't care, I will play regardless (plus, I have never had a problem with either one of the two)

Well I doubt they will be shutting down won until steam lans no longer require internet access. But I can gaurentee you that they wont be giving up on steam.

Uh...what? That menu bug has been fixed for a LONG time now. It was a problem with HL, not NS. The only problem with steam NS is the level change disconnect, which seems to only happen on select servers for some reason.

As for me, I use Steam, but I don't have NS installed (because I formatted not long ago) so I'll just wait for 3.0, I guess.

I've got the steam install sitting on my desktop at the moment and I'm only planning on touching it once 3.0 is out.

I've got steam fully installed and it runs fine but I've yet to see any Aussie servers (with players in them) using steam so until it becomes more popular I'll stick to WON.

Im useing the steam beta and it all works perfectly. Only problem is the lack of players. Btw is yo clan still around?...used to be my home way back, but im guessing their still on won

I use steam for the beta but i wtill use WON because our clan server is still on it. I'll be ready to switch though

Personally still going on WON im aussie too so servers are lacking... I can't be stuffed changing to steam too much effort until 3.0 with a proper install etc.

Plus i have a real aversion to any sort of program that just tries to update itself and keeps messing around on my connection. I know i can disable auto updates but my internet runs alot faster with steam off than if i have it idle in my taskbar.

I used to play using Steam, but switched back to WON when Sven-Coop 3 was released. Sven Coop, like NS 3 is coded specifically with Steam in mind, however, causes NS 2.1 to crash when run through Steam.

I have HL 1.1.1.0 installed for NS 2.1 and The Specialists only. Once NS 3 comes out, I'm uninstalling HL 1.1.1.0 though. I don't play enough Specialists to keep 1.1.1.0 around just for it.

I use WON as long as possible. For some reason Steam scares me, allthough I have never tried it. Some people say Steam sucks, while a few others say it's not that bad. So I haven't bothered installing it yet.

I keep using WON cause I don't think steam cuts it right now.

Also my fave servers are still WON based.
