I hope that we can get the normal free look back, or just 2.0 spec.

Don't like this new 1...

got hella bored, decided to do up one of foxtrot's pics. I know its not really classed as a combat photograph, but there wasn't much point starting a new thread for it

I think that a lot of the guys critiquing the pictures are forgetting how hard it is to get good screenies with the new spectator modes. Your savage over-anaylsis of people posting their first attempts at taking good screenshots in 3.0 is driving all your supporters away/new photographers. Play nice or you will have no one to play with. Just something you might want to rethink. All the best - Tink

This is a simple flash of a marine firing on ns_bast, it is 6mb so i suggest you open it from its location.

As the Hammer Falls - these Special Operations troops prove thier worth as they cut through enemy lines with superior firepower and coordination. Here they can be seen eradicating a Fade xenoform.

Exterminators - The last Kharaa Hive was lightly defended, and fell in a matter of seconds. Want to get in on the action? Join the T.S.A. Marines today! The top 10% of regular Marines have the option of undergoing a second tier of training available only to the elite few. Upon completing the training, the Marine will become a member of the T.S.A. PLEASE read the guidelines. Tommy, your pics include custom models, HUD icons, player weapons, etc.

Not much point to this thread, then. You've gotta have mad photoshop skills to edit out the motion tracking blips and crosshairs or you've gotta go without them. And if you do that, the only screen is gonna be of the camera lying on the ground.

Those pics were from a really good game, I don't get this. I think the pics were really good anyways - we had a HA rush going not 4 minutes into the game and it was intense.

Realism? What for? If you want realism, just say the images were taken from a Marine's helmet cam.

See, they're preferrable, not mandatory. Besides, I offered and explanation in the form of a T.S.A. propoganda ad (these pics are for propoganda or for news?).

I think when it says they are combat photographers, the pictures are actually archived by the T.S.A so people can see them 50 years later and remember how the war was (If the humans actually make it).

Besides, I think that having some custom models is ok, but Tommy, you have custom models for everything that goes with marines The picture with the group against the fade is the one that I really liked, try fixing it bud.

Wow. This thread is getting wrecked. I don't care if you dont like the guidelines. Post somewhere else if you don't.

Chao - I like your pics. They're all pretty cool.

Spacer - I'm flattered you redid one of my pics. Nice job.

Tommy - You're wrecking this thread. Quit posting pics with custom models and HUD icons. That's against the rules. If there are HUD icons in the BEST pic ever, it doesn't belong on this thread. Yours weren't any good anyway. The one where they're fighting the fade, one marine is walking way up in mid air. That doesn't belong in a realistic photograph. Crap like that man, ruins pics.

Admittedly, this pic isn't that great, but it follows the rules.

Foxtrot, no offense meant dude, but you are being a grade A a**hole... really you are...

Instead of telling us our pictures suck, tell us how to FIX them. Give us newbies tips! Your old fart vets won't be around forever.... and you don't seem very open to new people that aren't photo pro's...

Tommy, ignore him, your pictures are great. I'll admit, the MT circles ARE distracting, but other than that, they are MUCH better than anything I've seen him *jerks finger in Fox's direction* post... come to think of it... he doesn't post very much at all in the way of pictures... -_-' A hypocrite I believe that is called

um... he HAS been giving people tips. Guidelines are there to.. well.. guide you. If you dont follow the rules of a thread to begin with, what's the point of giving out suggestions? Where's the assurance (i cant spell leave me alone) that they'll follow them? It is Fox's thread, and his idea, and he's been contrbuting photos to his own thread, following his own guidelines. How is he a hypocrite??

I tried my best to fix up the pictures I submitted... but they looked like s*** when I did that (look at what happened to the one where the HA is looking at the aftermath of a bloody fight... it's REALLY f**ked up), then he COMPLETELY put down Tommy's pics... which ARE good pics w/ exception for the HUD icons...
• Jean_Luc_PicardJean_Luc_Picard Join Date: 2003-02-03 Member: 13051Members
He's a hypocrite cause he's been cutting ppl that have posted VERY good pics with HUD icons (simply cause they dun know how to take the HUD out) new **** cracks, yet I haven't seen him post a picture of equal quality in the past WEEK!
• brute_forcebrute_force Join Date: 2003-10-04 Member: 21433Members, Constellation
It's simple; if you don't have anything to contribute, you don't have to post. The point here, is that you should try to avoid the HUD icons if possible. If not possible, you'll have to edit them out. And if you don't know how to do that, either read a tutorial on basic photo editing, or just "clip" them out with black blocks (which admittedly looks terrible, but sometimes it's better without HUD icons).

As stated in the titles, these should be pictures that look like photographs taken in the heat of battle. There wouldn't be any HUD icons or any weapons up, since you can't hold a weapon and a camera up at the same time anyway. If you want to post stuff with HUD icons, start your own thread and post it in there - this is Foxtrot's thread.

its not being hypocritical if he's criticizing you for breaking the rules set up in the thread. I dont get what you're trying to say. There's also a post telling you how to get rid of HUD icons in pics somewhat good on page 16.

*sigh* I still am VERY opinionated on this, but I'm going to call the quits on this stupid argument... this is NOT a flame fest ffs, and the SIMPLE solution would be to actually tell me HOW to edit them out (From now on I'll just *uck*ng crop them aight?) Now shaddup or post some *od*mn pics!

Im not flaming, im asking why you're calling a hypocrite when he's not being hypocritical in the slightest way, and going back 2 or three pages would give you information on getting rid of HUD icons.

Sorry for the temporary thread derailment but I want to post a clarification to what I think FU wants in his thread.

What you should not post:
- Pictures of just a battle. Sure, in game, it might have been a great battle, but just because it was a great fight doesn't make for great pictures.
- Pictures with excessive custom models. We all love our custom models, however, this thread should capture the feel of NS. Non standard marine models/aliens kinda detract from the feel of NS.

Try posting:
- Pictures that have great atmosphere. Try to post pictures that exhilerate you when you look at them. Pictures that evoke emotion. Not just pictures of a fight that was great when you played it.

I'm in the process of writing a rough guide on editing stuff out of your screenshots. I'll post the URL later.

Points to ZeroByte

See? He's doing all us Newbie photographers a great service here by writing something that'll help...

I still dun know what's wrong with my alien models (they are just in greyscale... I put em to the near-normal molten pack, simply cause I got tired of the grey)
• BloodySlothBloodySloth Join Date: 2003-08-27 Member: 20284Members
his points have been made clear throughout the entire thread, he just put them out into words. And, yet again, there is on page 16, sticking out in the middle of the screen, is a person who made a post explaining how to somewhat easily and effectively rermove hud icons from your pics.

Ill try better, but this was the only one I could find in the old NS folder.
