    I don't think it will have much affect once its done (lag etc.). Most steam patches come down in less than a minute on decent systems. I guess it depends on how big this one would be.

    Ok there may be some bugs in the new features, but in all likely hood these will be restricted to the new features and shouldn't affect the parts of steam which currently work just fine, anyway unless you have a budget as big as microsoft you really cant test things on a large scale, steam just came out of beta too early that was all.

    I'm a pessimist, sooo...

    I predict Valve will manage to screw something up tommorow.

    They are getting very good at it, why stop now ?

    I'm an optimist, I say there would be a bug where you can download HL2 without paying.

    Yayyy.

    <i>The Optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds. The pessimist fears this is true. </i>

    Sounds like a Valve worthy Bug there Mojo. But I think it will be something more along the lines of total chaos.

    <b>STEAM IS BACK UP!</b>

    but guess what? alot of people on #ns keep having their update progress bar reset in the middle of updating and then start over at the beginning.

    Too many people using it. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    It would be nice if the progress just suspended itself when it couldn't get through, instead of having to start from scratch. Bleeeeehhh.

    Wouldn't be so bad if I could play my single player game of the moment (M:TW Viking Invasion), but I can't - the battles move at 3 FPS due to some problem with the sound card.

    So far I'd consider it a little borked, lets see what happens when we can actually get it updated though... I was hoping it woulda been done so I could have updated on my lunch, but it was late. Guess I have to wait til after work.

    Valve usually says that they're under a DOS attack whenever the problems get this bad -- it's hard to know if there's really a script kiddie who is causing trouble or if Valve just doesn't have their act together.

    I'm not taking it as a good sign that even after I was able to update, I can't log in... you'd think that the validation servers would use a separate network from the content update ip to keep the entire system from having issues, but I guess it's all being filtered through a common point.
