I don't think it will have much affect once its done (lag etc.). Most steam patches come down in less than a minute on decent systems. I guess it depends on how big this one would be.
Ok there may be some bugs in the new features, but in all likely hood these will be restricted to the new features and shouldn't affect the parts of steam which currently work just fine, anyway unless you have a budget as big as microsoft you really cant test things on a large scale, steam just came out of beta too early that was all.

Wouldn't be so bad if I could play my single player game of the moment (M:TW Viking Invasion), but I can't - the battles move at 3 FPS due to some problem with the sound card.
it says updating.. then it doesn't do anything, and I keep getting unable to contact steam, try later messages it just won't seem to update AHHG I am gonna die from not getting my NS fix
So far I'd consider it a little borked, lets see what happens when we can actually get it updated though... I was hoping it woulda been done so I could have updated on my lunch, but it was late. Guess I have to wait til after work.

I'm not taking it as a good sign that even after I was able to update, I can't log in... you'd think that the validation servers would use a separate network from the content update ip to keep the entire system from having issues, but I guess it's all being filtered through a common point.

I predict Valve will manage to screw something up tommorow.
They are getting very good at it, why stop now ?
