Okay, suspense is REALLY killing me on this one. They were so totally vague about what it is, but specific about what will result from it, it's kind of disgusting. Do they want me to die early? Anyone have any ideas/comments/inside info/free pr0n (Just kidding, don't spam the Google images link... Bad... Memories...)

I KNEW it would work! Ooooh, the powah. Just so you know, supernorn doesn't generally capitalize anything.

Do you think it's a replacement for hives or something? I've honestley got no clue what it is.

    Space Orkz?
    Marine vs. Marine?

Or... A training map. I'm guessing that's what it is, but you never know =P

It says that it's a new <u>system</u> that will transform the way NS is played.

My guess is a new comms system built into the game. That would be the one thing I could think of that would change the way we played the game. Changing the entire game dynamics system doesn't fit into that context very well, so my guess is a new communication system.

If anything else, it may be a league system that they might be able to create by tying together servers and connections in odd ways and pushing the limits of the HL system.

Or it might be something completely new for NS2. Methinks that either NS will become an MMOG based on indoor activity or it will continue to be a single-fight game with organized leagues of some sort.

    Sad part is people think it isn't real. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
It is real, it's for all weapons, not just the shotgun, and I know how to reproduce it.

Seems to happen when a skulk is within 3 feet of a marine(sometimes worse), the bullets hit the skulk, you can see the bullets hitting the skulks model, but they just seem to not do any damage. Reason why people seem to blame the shotgun more is because it's a close range weapon. I don't really know what it is caused by but it doesn't seem like a "steam" bug at all.

We don't even know yet that this "system" is going to be an in-game feature, only that it will change how the game is played. Flayra likes to make vague announcements when he knows he isn't giving enough information for even an informed guess.

It says that Cagey is helping out in the development of it, so its pretty safe to say it will be something to do with the maps. Perhaps a more flexible mapping environment with more advanced weld zones? Something like that I think is more likely than a distributed comm system.

There was a section in the member profile a while back for STEAMID and 'awards' or something...
  • Crono5Crono5 Join Date: 2003-07-22 Member: 18357Members
    *Idea!*

They can store info if a STEAMID is a Vet, Constie, Dev, etc...
Wouldn't they logically be able to save XP that same way, if they wanted to?
    I'm thinking a server option for a battle.net-style deal.

It's more than likely unchained chambers. As in any chamber, any time. That's the only thing i can think of which isn't stupid which could change the way NS is played forever.

I've been thinking of something similar for a while now; levels that change their layout dependant on time or other triggers. For example, perhaps during the level, the ceiling caves in in one tunnel, which blocks it from standard usage... but uncovers a ceiling vent or side tunnel which can then be used instead. Or maybe a pipe falls from the wall and breaks a hole in the floor, making a way for the marines to get into tunnels which only skulks had access to previously.

The problem is that this sort of stuff would (I believe, I'm not a mapper or coder) be entity-heavy, especially if had a lot of this sort of stuff in the map (which you'd need to, to avoid it being a pointless one-time-in-one-map gimmick.

It's just an idea which has been floating around in my head for a while... changing, evolving maps, which alter their layout throughout, and can swing the battle in either teams favour.

    I want Permagorges back <span style='font-size:21pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:red'><3</span></span>

Maybe its something with Skulkwallclimbing, or something. It is changing the Way NS is played, so it means Combat and NSC. More Ideas.

The Chamber Idea would be cool, too. Or the Upgrade System of Voogru, or the cool RT steam on Voogrus Servers. <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo-->

i believe it's the hives can be built anywhere. i've already seen it working partially. i believe what they are working on now is getting the map textures to change to infested versions when the hive is nearby.

    Remind me to slap Mojo

This reminds me of the time MonsE released a horribly blurred screenshot of what later turned out to be the brand new Grenade Launcher model. Everyone getting all over-excited over a green blob. The fact that the 1.0 GL model was stated to being replaced didnt seem to stop the wild guesses.

Best not to get too excited, or wildy speculate because in the end: You might just be dissapointed, or look like an idiot <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm pretty sure this isn't it, but I've had this idea for a loooong time, and since we're making wild guesses....

Random maps. A new map generated at the start of every game. If you've played either of the first 2 X-COM games you'll know what I mean, not ENTIRELY random, i.e, you might have a map with the same room in it twice in a row, but never in the same place.

Then of course we would have whinings of "OMG CRAPPY UNBALANCE RANDOM MAP!!!", but then I doubt the random maps would be used for clan matches.

    Oh well, I can always dream <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Objective-based seems more likely.

Im guessing its either changes to the res system (to make small and large games even), or unlinked chambers as somone else said (all 3 chambers available at 1 hive, 1 extra level per hive)

How about Flayra, Joev and Cagey haxxored up a way to kill all unnamned func_walls, target_mp3audio, ambientgeneric and env_sprites at round start and record their positions and charecteristics and let them be handled client-side to let mappers use many many more entities for things that need to be server side so we can have much more interactive maps?

Or finally something done about bunnyhopping. Could be easier for newbies to learn(thanks to holding space makes you jump repetedly or something like the "triple-jump script" being built in) and explained in the manuals or removed entirely from the game(it is NOT difficult to remove it, even I could do it and that says a lot about the meager skills needed to do this).

How about an adhoc physics engine(skulks jumping off of walls, no turning in the air or weird bugs when strafe walking into walls, thrown weapons bounce realistically, an onos can push and toss around marines easily, some physical entities phys_func_wall with a center of mass and a mass)? Sort of like sven-coop but extended to players and everything(bunnyhopping removal would be impliead as it is a result of bugged quake physics). (this is really really far fetched...)
