Excellent run gentlemen. Some Tall Guy, and Naigel, I have to say; excellent work on both parts. Belg, Hanz and I agree that your RR had some great potential and with some time, really could have pulled out on top.

Hanz's Long Winded Map Comments
Just bear in mind that these are my thoughts and just how I saw the maps (and hence where my scores came from)...these are not binding in any way... can't stress enough that point...hope these comments help with future projects..
Please don't think I am a **** or whatever for these comments - I am being hugely honest here and I hope that you see the honesty come through...
Please note: John changed the calculations at the last minute. Those Judge's 1/3 scores do not reflect my intended scores. This isn't a jab at John, just thought I should make it clear that it's not how I saw things. It wouldn't have changed anything in regards to the final outcome. The original "Judge's 1/3" calculation was based on all criteria of scoring. John felt that because none of the entries had Secret Rooms, that section should be excluded in the calculation. I disagree, all those areas were included because they were considered the things that a readyroom should consist of. Likewise, for Belgarians score (this is not a stab at you, Belgarian) because he did not have a particle system - that was removed from his calculation - so his final score would be closer to the others. I disagree with bumping up marks for the sake of doing so.
Of similar note, I was a little disappointed to see such high scores. Whilst the maps merited good scores - I think it is a little naive to give super high scores when there was things that (at least I felt) were lacking.
One last thing - John renamed the "Judge's Discretion" section to "Cookie". I still will refer to it as Judge's discretion because that's what it is - my personal feelings about your map - regardless of scoring sections etc.
Lighting: (13/20) The lighting in your map is primarily the biggest let down for you. There were certain things you could have done to make better use of your architecture.
Colo(u)rs: (7) The outside colour that shone in was quite good and really reflected the terrain quite well. However, the blue lights that were hidden in the architecture didn't really do much in terms of lighting. They had no purpose other than to be blue. I felt the round spots were somewhat out of place and a little bit plain. (suggestion: Keep the outside light as it was and remove all those round spots and blue battons. If you were to have some floodlights at the base of each of those support beams shining directly up you could have a nice temple effect.) Shadows: (6) Whilst there was elements of intensity (and that lightning effect was quite nice and well timed) there really wasn't any contrast throughout the map. It was a consistant overall but not in a good way. As I said above, those round spots were out of place.
Architecture: (16/20) This was the section that saved your score. It could have gotten a much higher score if elements of lighting and texturing were better used.
Movement: (9) Pretty much no complaints here. Big, sweeping, majestic, grand were my feelings. There really was no chance at an onos getting it's big butt stuck anywhere which is something that the other two didn't consider. I like big readyrooms - not empty but just big and grand.. This would be a fun readyroom to come back to as a lerk
Design/Geometry: (7) I actually really liked your layout. It had good intentions. I wont dwell on your lack of time to add to it etc, but there really was a fair bit lacking in complexity. The terrain was good and the overall layout and design was interesting to look at - and that's what gave you the 7. What stopped it going any higher was the emptiness. The ramps were good and added to it but not enough to make it feel any more than an empty glass house. Given better lighting, this score may have been higher. Though the two catagories are unconnected, they never-the-less influence eachother.
Texturing: (13/20) What really killed you here was texture choice, the usage (as below) and in some cases alignment. I think I was a bit generous in some respects. Thinking back now and looking at the others scores, I probably would have been inclined to give even lower for the alignment score simply because there were things that really bugged me.
Usage: (6) It wasn't bad. It just didn't have much flavour to it. And I guess to a certain extent because it was just a glass room etc there wasn't much need for interesting textures. By the looks of it, you have only used 10 or so textures (not many more I don't think - excluding lights). I think what really knocked off a few points was the texture you chose for the support beams. It just plain didn't look like it belonged. However, a redeeming point is the texture used on the ramp type thing all the way round. I liked it.. liked it a lot actually..
Alignment: (7) 4 out of this 7 is from getting that sloped round ramp to be textured so well. The other 3 comes from the glass (very well done). You lost 3 cause there were a few spots were there was, well, alignment problems (in the corridors - on the glass). Plus, I think I deducted marks because the support beam texture bothered me so much plus you hadn't taken any steps to make it seem (even a little) to be made exactly for that purpose. It was just slapped on.
Particle System: (0/20) I guess you didn't add one. I personally was a little disappointed. I was imagining the whole temple feeling with a layer of mist or fog down near the floor level. Even a faint mist outside would have added to the atmosphere - especially with the lightning.
Judge's Discretion: (7/10) I gave you 7 here because I wanted you to see that I thought this map had huge potential. It really did. I'm not gonna get into the discussion about "if I had a few more days" (it's probably true that it would have been better etc) - fact is though, what you submitted wasn't as good as the other two. Not to say though that this wasn't good - for the time you did spend on it - it was good. There are a few things that I would have done differently but overall I felt this was a 7/10 map (taking into account the things that could have, should have, would have been).
Last words: Well done overall...
Stay tuned for Part 2 - Some tall guys map! (this has taken a while to write and I'll do the next one later today - it's 1:39am)

First off.. Hanz, i want you to know that i resent nothing of what you said. I found it to be a very honest and thoroughly complete summary. Indeed i'm glad you didn't try to soften things up. I'd much rather hear it how it is than get the padded sugar coated version.
Naigel, if you really want to take pics of my rr go for it. Otherwise i'll do it sometime soon.

Just a quick question about those warning stripes Naigel...
Why are they there I mean what do they warn you for, Not only you, but I've seen it all to many times that mappers would place warning stripes somewhere without it having a purpose. Sure it looks good to the untrained eye But I whish we all would get over the "looking good" part and actually make the darn stripes to play its rol which was intended for...
Oh other then that I like the rest of your map. And sorry I had to make this comment with your map as an example but I am accusing "all" other mappers who do this along with you
[edit] Naigel? I think me made a booboo in accusing you and even thinking this was all just one map *slaps hand against forehead*, sorry man... These are RR's of the fellows who are in this contest? Ifso put their names with the corrosponding picture please so I can point the finger at the one who made the stripes fail its purpose
Anyway I think my point has been made, just let it settle for a moment and think about it, meditate or do whatever it is you do to think things trough. You all know I'm right!!!
Hey, I don't mind it all, I just see it as a good piece of advice. Y'know I've never thought about the warning stripes that way, I shall definitely keep it in mind next time. And seeing the other replies to making screenshots... I'll do it right now... I'll edit this post later on.
-EDIT-
Not this post but the previous one, so the screenshots are together.

I guess you didn't add one. I personally was a little disappointed. I was imagining the whole temple feeling with a layer of mist or fog down near the floor level. Even a faint mist outside would have added to the atmosphere - especially with the lightning.

Well...
Judge's Discretion: (7/10)
I gave you 7 here because I wanted you to see that I thought this map had huge potential.

And sorry I had to make this comment with your map as an example but I am accusing "all" other mappers who do this along with you
[edit]
Naigel? I think me made a booboo in accusing you and even thinking this was all just one map *slaps hand against forehead*, sorry man...
These are RR's of the fellows who are in this contest? Ifso put their names with the corrosponding picture please so I can point the finger at the one who made the stripes fail its purpose
*holsters finger for quickdraw *
Anyway I think my point has been made, just let it settle for a moment and think about it, meditate or do whatever it is you do to think things trough.
You all know I'm right!!!
-EDIT-
Not this post but the previous one, so the screenshots are together.
Is this some kind of a competitions? I see many readyrooms, many nice.
