It better. Or else I'll....I'll.....post this repeatedly:

Did the guy who bumped this even know how old it was? Seems it somehow slipped his mind. What a powerful thread necromancer.

    On a completely unrelated note.
Hey quaunaut, Nice sig. Where did you get that picture?

    Yeah, it's..hypnotizing.....isn't........it............

And this thread <u>had</u> to be on at least the 7th page, I think he knew how old it was. Actually, it isn't that old, it's just that stuff gets buried real quick in this forum.

Considering that the project is still going, there's nothing really wrong with raising this thread...

That's strange, I've been playing an NS text adventure game for ages...can't seem to get past this one part, though...

Heh, the project still is alive, and if you look in my sig, i've been advertising this thread for some time. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I've let my focus kinda slip from the matters at hand. Right now NStxt is a big broken mess, purely because of all the tinkering i've done with it. Lot's of changes have happened, but there's still huge lumps of code that have gone unwritten, heh.

I've not really been keeping a formal changelog, but the following of the proposed changes in my last proper update have been added: taunting, MT and a basic requesting orders system. I'm still suffering with the same save\load code problem which is a big big big problem if anyone actually wants to load the game.

Other things that i've either experimented with or whatever have been adding graphics, a new menu system, new way of loading cell data, and at some point the ~850 line combat code will be rewritten to be far far far more streamlined and easier to read.

And as to what Quanaunt kinda hinted at was the expansion of the NStxt team. I'm taking Quanaut on as a padawan, i still need to talk more about what his involvement in the project will be, but as it stands, it's likely Quanaut will get all the "fun" little jobs like writing encryption for the save files and such. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Once i get this gun model i'm working on out of the way, i'll get back in the thick of NStxt.

I actually followed your sig link from a post in the CM forum, but forgot to check the date of the last post. Doh.

If you're getting bogged down in coding, you might consider using an existing z-machine intepreter, like frotz or zip.

I'd offer to help with the coding, but I think I remember you saying that it was at least part learning exercise for you. That and the fact that I've got my hands full with my own game.... but whatever <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

A skulk leaps out at you and tries to take your head off, you duck instinctively and spin round to see it land only a short distance away from you. What do you want to do?

You can't, you are now lagging. What do you want to do?

    Hmm how about making it open source? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Then anyone will be able to see how the game goes though...

One of the things on my epic "to-do list" is to seperate the "engine" and the content. And from that seperation, i need to implement some form of encryption to stop people just reading through the content files.

Eventually, the game will be made open source, with examples of how the content is implemented, but this won't be until it's done and released as NStxt / Whatever Name It Gets.

I have few suggestion for you:

1: Add shortcuts instead of "go east," add a short cut where they can type the letter "E" to go east, as a player you can asume your going that way.

2: the combat system can be alittle better, instead of saying you do 20, or the skulk evades on its own. have a dice system like D&D.

    Simple steps

<u>Roll to hit</u> - based upon the AC of the creature. (Skulk for instence would have a AC of like 17 or 18 sence it is small and fast.)

<u>Roll for damage</u> - damage is based high upon the weapon used. (Lmg for instences would be 1d10 sence it ain't stronge but can get the job done.)

NOTE: if these have already be suggested or you already planed then i'm sorry, but if not and you want more info or help say so i own all of the core rule books to D&D.

Feel free to msn me, or pm me i don't care really.

    /me points and laughs.

Besides, there's not necessarily anything wrong with map files being text files since that would allow people to edit them more easil... ah. Never mind.

Maaaaay have some problems with portability, though.
