Not that it looks bad, but the grass in STALKER is a lot better in my opinion. Definately top quality grass though.

CONFUSION!

Anyway... The first pic does indeed have good grass. It doesn't quite look right though, IMO. Something about it (and the rest of the foliage) just seems sort of washed-out and blurry in a way that doesn't fit. Of course, it probably looks much better in motion.

The foliage, background, enviroment and such are really nice, but the character models look like ****. Gamespy's crappy compression techniques as usual, perhaps?
• JediYoshiJediYoshi The Cupcake Boss Join Date: 2002-05-27 Member: 674Members
The picture looks real size to me.

Compression couldn't be it, or else everything would be looking bad.
• TestamentTestament Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4037Members
Poor models, then.

If you're talking about Brothers in Arms, it's still in teh testing stages and they're making tweaks to everything. But I think they look good though. As for the grass, what's the point man if you can't smoke it?

Good lord, how many WWII games do we freakin need?

Let's innovate, people.

World War II is still a very important event for me. My grandfather fought in the war, so it's a little closer to my heart than the rest.

Plus, it's got everything the classic epics have. It's a near perfect example of "good versus evil".

Oh yes, a little bit of trivia - Brothers in Arms is being developed by Gearbox, in case anyone didn't know already.
• GadzukoGadzuko Join Date: 2002-12-26 Member: 11556Members, Constellation
I think the thing that doesn't feel right about the models is the fact that apparently WW2 was fought by an army of clones. Seriously, look at them. The faces are identical. Must be early enough in development that they're still in the "foliage production" phase and haven't yet moved into "realistic face development".

Its in pre-pre-PRE alpha guys. These are the earliest screens known to man.

And actually, this one has a few twists- read the accompanying gamespy preview. Lookin nice

Because talking about weed stopped being cool in 7th grade, and for most people with IQs over 90.

As for the grass, pity it's wasted on such a **** game. There is nothing that could be put in a WW2 game that would be in the slightest bit unique. WW2 games are stupid games made by stupid lazy companies for people whose greatest thrill is shining their shoes.
• Cold_NiTeCold_NiTe Join Date: 2003-09-15 Member: 20875Members
Yeah. You know what, that's true. Forgive my reference.

Honestly they should have had grass like that in Call of Duty. Considering how useful the grass is in multiplayer, it would be cool to have that instead of a cruddy sprite.

doesn't nearly everyone have a relative who has fought in WWII?

As for me, my grandfather fought in WWII, my great-grandfather got mustard gassed in WWI, and my grandmother was in Caen during the WWII bombing.

And we have already enough WWII games, especially enough that aren't actually REALISTIC.
Grass still looks nice though...
• MedHeadMedHead Join Date: 2002-12-19 Member: 11115Members, Constellation
I wasn't referring to the games being close to my heart... I was talking about the actual war. Besides, if you or I ever felt the games were bad, we just wouldn't have to play them. Not a big hassle.

---

I think the models all look the same because the game is still in production. They probably haven't made any more faces yet.

I'm still waiting for a game where you can play as a german, or italian. Or something on the axis side.

Now that's something you almost never see in a game. Atleast singleplayer.
