Yeah, because god forbid some people don't want to see combat.

i would enlist the day they passed the draft, me and my G/F have talked it over, and since she acts more like a fiancee... we needed to talk it over.

i have my MOS already picked out (in case of draft and/or flunking out college ad both have an equal chance of happening)...

I for one, would love being in the army, no more worrying about the draft, no more junk about being a grunt, no more sitting here listening to the problems of people... but then again, it's always to have people complain to you, right?

If there were Indonesian soldiers landing around Cairns I'd be into a recruitment office in a flash, because my country is in danger. However that is my choice, just as it is my choice to enlist in the Australian army right now, and democracies are all about choice. Forceably putting a rifle into my hands and marching me off to fight in a conflict I never supported isn't really much of a choice. Quite frankly if I don't want to go and fight over there I shouldn't have to, and neither should any American.

    Hmm... I have 4 options.

    1) Section 8 (or whever it is when you're crazy). A lifetime of watching MASH and also memorizing Full Metal Jacket line per line will no doubt help in this, although since I am quite naturally insane I think it won't be a problem.

    2) Woot for medical asthma. I say medical because I haven't had any asthma problems for like 10 years, but I had it just severe enough to exempt me from draftage.

    3) Shoot self in foot.

    OR, most likely,

    4) I go "hey, I'm a programmer. How bout I just program up some guided missles instead of getting shot by a sniper?"

I doubt this will pass though. If bush wants to be re-elected, there's no way in hell he can not veto this. And if he doesn't veto it, and Kerry wins, well then that tree hugging hippie will probably be all "olo lets send the troops to march on our capital and hold hands and sing songs", in which case.. I'll still be going to Canada.

I have one kidney, thereby giving me medical leave from the draft... I dunno whether I'd want to fight or not if I didn't have medical leave from the draft.

I've been reading this some more, and it actually looks a lot scarier than JUST a military draft...

This is also a draft for civilian service. Meaning, if you don't qualify physically for combat, they're gonna make you be their **** elsewhere. meaning you may be drafted to the coast guard, stuck doing airport security, etc.

Also note that they're aiming to draft WOMEN too. This won't pass. If it does, then I invite every terrorist on earth to please topple our government, just leave the civilians out of it.

If this passes, I'll be 18 when the draft starts! Oh noes! If the draft starts and I have an anywhere remotely close chance of being drafted, I'm enlisting right away as a MP or someone with a desk job. But if I am chosen to fight on the front lines, I'll do my best not to die cowering in a trench and be sure to take atleast one of them with me.

Kerry and the other Democrats are behind this too. Kerry was quoted a while back as saying that we need 40,000 more soldiers. When asked how we would get them, he had no answer.

Look at the huge numbers behind this. Think for a moment about how much people are complaining about the economy, with jobs being funneled out of the country. (Nevermind that this is smoke and mirrors; the jobs are being funneled out of the tech industry mainly, and if people would just get into different fields they'd be better off than they were before, because all the money saved on those exported jobs just comes right back here.)

This is an example of what you get when real bipartisanism happens. The Republicans get a whole bunch more people to send to foreign countries, and the Democrats get the largest government work program in damn near forever. Everybody wins except the American people.

The only way to save ourselves is to do what we should've been doing a long time ago, what many of us wanted to do, but never did, for fear we'd be wasting our time: vote Libertarian. They will ensure that the rights of the people are protected. It is their one and only goal.

This is getting an interesting turn. *gets popcorn and lies back* Just imagine how awesome basis for games WW3 will generate?

Btw, what's left of the "Axis of Evil?" Syria? Iran...and North-Korea? Syria and Iran won't be any more difficult than Iraq and Afghanistan but North-Korea...well, either you need WW2-like resources or WW2-like men power(and casualties).

Meh. I thought it had been established in discussion forums that democracy is the best and only right form of governing. Most of USAmericans supported and voted for Bush and you got him. Stop whining.

I don't live in the US, but if I did and got drafted, I'd just flat-out refuse to go. I'd rather wallow in a prison for a few years than go to a country to kill people and quite possibly be killed, myself.

They voted for Bush at a time where stuff as scary as this bill wasn't being pushed through congress. Sure, it may not be the smartest thing they could have done, but if I remember, he only won the elections on a technicality anyway (I think the opposition had more raw votes than bush, but was screwed by the Florida fiasco, but I may be wrong, so don't quote me on any of that...been a while.)

I'm not American, but seriously, if you can vote, make sure you know who you're voting for and why. Your rights and your lives may be at stake, especially if this passes. You've already had several bills quietly shuffled through congress to restrict your rights during this "war on terrorism", don't let them take any more, regardless of what party you want to follow.

If you guys don't want to be drafted (if you feel as though you just can't take part in ANY service for reasons of beliefs or what have you), you may want to become a conscientious obector.
