Got Engrish?

love hina manga clip
i've been reading the love hina manga, and it's great, but there are a few uh, "bloopers" in the translation/english elements. this particular one was just too good to pass up.
if you haven't read/watched love hina, start! it's great .

Am I the only one who thinks most anime as very very shallow, saccharine and over-the-top drivel?
Speaking about the dramatic aspect of it, at least. You'll not find an argument from me protesting that the art is lacking.
Wapanese are just as shameful/embarassing to their culture as wiggers, you know.

what? english is to the japanese what chinese characters are to americans. we have no idea what the **** they mean, but we buy some and hang it around for an oriental feel. english is used often to help market things, to the japanese, it "feels" modern and cool. they couldn't care less how poor the grammar was. speaking of which, WTH does wigger have to do with engrish?
Naru from anime (the one that looks like a whale),
Naru from manga.
Also: there is nothing more shallow than Love Hina.
No. On that note, have you looked at most movies, most novels, most music, and most visual art lately?

I actually like the first one. She looks healthy at least. The manga one lookes like a crooked stick. And yes, Love Hina is the most cliche and unorigional love story ever made. But it was still funny at some points. And it makes me smile.

You know my feeling on the matter. Tee hee indeed.

No, and I respect the fact that I am not a professional and have not been exposed to enough 'art' to just say out-rigt that anime is really bad..
Which is why I ask whether or not I am alone. It is my personal opinion that it is disgustingly horrid and disgracful, and an absolute insult to the intellect of anyone with a real literary apptitude, but that is JUST my opinion (although, in my defence, I could gather up a formidable amount of facts to support this opinion..)
I'm not exactely sure, but I think that was an insult.

What? So her nose is missing and it makes her head look big and weird? At least she don't got no dumbo ears like the manga version.
Be nice.
how do you have FUN if nothing's good enough, anyway?
well, go ahead, gather the "formidable" amount of facts. i will be ready to "trounce" your argument. en garde :3
You're one of a kind, man!

Well, you're definetely not alone, but I can't really agree with you. Yes, there's a lot of really, really commercialized smut in the realm of animes, but as I said, you won't find an art form devoid of that.
On the other hand, there's stuff like the Akira mangas, which basically set a visual style and narrative tone adopted by western and eastern media alike, and at the same time delivered a few outstanding character portraits, there's LAIN, one of my favorite pieces of cyberpunk, period, there's, yes, NGE, which, despite its sometimes rather 'embarrasing' following, is as deep as it pretends, and the list goes on.
I can accept that some will be appalled by the often overly bright and sometimes seemingly grotesque aspects of anime aesthetics, but there remain a few true gems.
