I've managed to avoid signing up through fade topics, aliens are too hard/ marines are too rock threads and now I finally go and see this one lol
I think nia's one of the most open-minded and neutral guys involved in this arguement and I find myself sitting here bobbing my head like some kinda nodding dog when reading through his points. In the end the lerk is supposedly an aggressive support cast but it's support abilities don't even really kick in until the 2nd hive. The problem isn't really much about anything as silly as "OMG LERKS OWNZORZ M3!!! NERF! NERF!!!" as that it's not even really set up to act out it's assigned role until the aliens are capping another hive or two o.O
I can see the potential 'support' usage of the spore clouds as a sort of temporary defence screen, panic inducer, area clearance and opening barrage for a charge but it's a little too open to "I AM L337!!! M3 KILLz R1N3Z!!! WOOT!" attitudes in it's current form, making it an attractive early choice for fragmonkeys while they wait for mr rhino ^^; As much as I love the idea of people reforming and getting out of the lonewolf ideal within NS, it's just not a realistic expectation; there's always going to be people coming and going from the NS scene like any other game and so you'll always get the griefers, the fragfanatics and all the other negative and positive types... they're not going anywhere unless the game starts forcing them to do otherwise
while the flipping about of the skills sounds like the best idea suggested (1 hive - spike & umber, 2 - primal, 3 - spore) one thing I haven't seen come up really if that's not viable is a small tweak to it. For example, what if the gas was treated as drowning damage? While in the noxious clouds your hp would start dropping drastically like it does now causing most less prepared people to panic, weakening their health to make any attacks easier and generally detering people from entering the gassed area if possible. The difference would come the minute the cloud dissapates or the marine escapes its choking confines; they would get back the health knocked out by the drowning damage gradually just like when when you break the surface after drowning. This way it would still serve it's potential support role for harassing, detering and weakening while negating the current trend to basically use it as a potential 'uber kill' or team destroyer =3
how does that sound? It's not really a nerf, it doesn't upset the current weapon order and it might encourage it to be used for what it was probably added for in the first place
be gentle... I know it's not a great idea to jump into a big debate when you first hit a forum but hey, this is my first post ^~<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

First off with the suggestion for OCs, I think that OCs straight from NS would be overpowered early game (especially if they were free) and flat out useless late game...so at no stage would they really be balanced.
If focus (bite upgrade) didn't kill in one hit on lvl 0 armor rines, it's strictly worse than normal bite. Actually, it is strictly worse than normal bite against any level armor above 0.
Electrifying CC...no...just no. As if rines needed another way to camp besides gl spam.
Turrets in Classic do exactly zilch against smart onos/fade, this would just make rine start completely unpenetrable to smaller lifeforms, not a good idea.
All in all, none of these are balanced in one way or another. What is balanced however is teamwork and sticking together, which really would solve your particular problem (imo dying alot).<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Replies: 4 Views: 113 i was juss dickin around the forums reading posts when i came up with an awesome idea... n i registered because you all just HAVE to hear it. mebbe this is too complex or something, but everybody (everybody, don't lie) will post about how an idea is inappropriate for the atmosphere of the game. well, if you watch alien movies and stuff, and you just *think* about it in your head, the marines would be scared in that kind of environment. not all the time, but at certain points. if a marine is very close to another marine or two and suddenly they're splattered to gibs, he's not thinking "this is my time to shine and rack up points". hes thinkin like, "save me jebus". or something like that. SO, when in a crazy environment like that, marines could be scared, and it would mess up their accuracy or something. and they might also run faster. same with killing a lot of aliens. if the tables have turned and the marines are whooping, then ... boom, adrenaline rush. get it? and, similarly, with the aliens (woot this is a koo idea) they have this kind of telepathic shared consciousness thing, or so i've read. maybe i'm totally off with this one, but if one alien dies, the screen might flash red for all the other aliens, or the screen might shake, or something like that to distract or otherwise disorient the dead alien's buddies. this would be almost more of a cosmetic thing for the game than the "fear factor" for the marines, but, hey, it'd be really feckin sweet. Sure would be nice for some of us "un-official" mappers to be able to test our maps with NSTR2. It will definately suck if we have to remake half a map because our layout isn't conducive with the new commander mode. Well, since you're a mod and all, you have to be sort of a good rolemodel for us....
Unlike a few of the forumers who dare to go against the system (a bit)
But I find it really weird though....don't you post much in the private moderator forum?
And don't ask me how I know that, because I just do.
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->awww... heck...
I can see the potential 'support' usage of the spore clouds as a sort of temporary defence screen, panic inducer, area clearance and opening barrage for a charge but it's a little too open to "I AM L337!!! M3 KILLz R1N3Z!!! WOOT!" attitudes in it's current form, making it an attractive early choice for fragmonkeys while they wait for mr rhino ^^;
As much as I love the idea of people reforming and getting out of the lonewolf ideal within NS, it's just not a realistic expectation; there's always going to be people coming and going from the NS scene like any other game and so you'll always get the griefers, the fragfanatics and all the other negative and positive types... they're not going anywhere unless the game starts forcing them to do otherwise
while the flipping about of the skills sounds like the best idea suggested (1 hive - spike & umber, 2 - primal, 3 - spore) one thing I haven't seen come up really if that's not viable is a small tweak to it.

Just so many cool things about it, like the rotating airlocks and all the cool doors hehe. The elevator at marine spawn is pretty cool also, specially since if they choose to go down the ladder... <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif' /><!--endemo--> comes out the vent and munches 'em. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I am just lookig for a time when I won't be YELLED at for being an offensive gorge (IE webs/babblers). With the current alien system, there is just no way to do this without making an entire team of enemies. You can't build and attack at the same time...
I honestly see a problem: the ONLY way that an offensive gorge can be viable is in VERY late game where building is done anyways. I just wanna entrap some pitiful marines

I had one too, was in some bar full of strangers and a skulk walked in, wandered around until everyone noticed, then it got chased out, then someone closed the door. Then a minute or so later the handle began to rattle and the door opens. Sure enough, in waltzes a gorge and walks behind the bar, where someone was declaring that all the drinks were free (since the bartender left previous to the skulk entering). The the gorge starts to healthspray the person behind the bar, causing her to scream in agony while i watched her leg get disintigrated by the healing goodness.
Along with this i've had some pretty rare dreams involving having sex with friends, imagining i'm female (with cracking breasts i might add) and also the weirdest one ever where i dreamt i REALLY wanted a Playstation 2, and i tried so hard to get one, then i finally got one, only to wake up and remember i actually own one anyway. Views: 113 i was juss dickin around the forums reading posts when i came up with an awesome idea... n i registered because you all just HAVE to hear it. mebbe this is too complex or something, but everybody (everybody, don't lie) will post about how an idea is inappropriate for the atmosphere of the game. well, if you watch alien movies and stuff, and you just *think* about it in your head, the marines would be scared in that kind of environment. not all the time, but at certain points. if a marine is very close to another marine or two and suddenly they're splattered to gibs, he's not thinking "this is my time to shine and rack up points". hes thinkin like, "save me jebus". or something like that. SO, when in a crazy environment like that, marines could be scared, and it would mess up their accuracy or something. and they might also run faster. same with killing a lot of aliens. if the tables have turned and the marines are whooping, then ... boom, adrenaline rush. get it? and, similarly, with the aliens (woot this is a koo idea) they have this kind of telepathic shared consciousness thing, or so i've read. maybe i'm totally off with this one, but if one alien dies, the screen might flash red for all the other aliens, or the screen might shake, or something like that to distract or otherwise disorient the dead alien's buddies. this would be almost more of a cosmetic thing for the game than the "fear factor" for the marines, but, hey, it'd be really feckin sweet.

if the commander says build a or a then you do it, then if you get killed you can just say you were following orders,
i wouldnt go or and i wouldnt even go near a without being with everyone or following orders.
why do people play this mod if they go solo? they usually end up an which is dumb as hell..then complain, saying "i have crap guns" i would give them sweet f.a. if they ignored me, and give all my stuff to the guys that help.

Sure would be nice for some of us "un-official" mappers to be able to test our maps with NSTR2. It will definately suck if we have to remake half a map because our layout isn't conducive with the new commander mode. I'm itchin to really hammer away in WC but putting all that work into a map that can't be used seems a little bass ackwards.
Okay, okay, put down the eggs and tomatoes.
