I'm dyslexic and yes I try to make an effort with my spelling and grammer (is that even spelt right?) but sometimes I just cant spell a word and I haven't (thats another word, with or without the 'e'?) got office installed for the spell checker. This is not meant as an excuse for bad spelling I'm just saying don't judge others just because they can not spell, its about the effort they put into trying to spell.
Note: If your not sure on the spelling of a word is a good idea to add an "(sp)" after it so people realise that you know have spelt it wrong but can not find out how to spell it correctly. (spamming this is not a valid excuse either )
Ah but there's a very clear line between dyslexia and laziness or simply an obstinate refusal to type understandably. The people that drive me crazy are people who can type the line 'omg i thnk ur crazy and u mak no sense wut is ur problem?' and then hit the 'add reply' button without stopping to poke forks in their eyes first. (in order to get the full effect that reading their post has on people)

Thats what im getting at, (btw if a op reads this, please lock it IF IT GETS OUT OF HAND cause some people take it too personally, and have not read the first line) people too lazy to bother with it, even though they know that they have horrid spelling skills and could confuse people, not insulting people who make occasional mistakes, so don't flame, as I asked.
Edit starts here: In response to the flaming about the European comment, I usually see slight variations in words that may be considered a spelling mistake, I'm not insulting anyone, to make that clear.
Also, I think a lot (see, two words) of people do make honest mistakes, but it isn't an excuse not to quickly scan it for errors, no need to do an in depth proofread/spellcheck like it was a term paper, just so that people can understand it.
And I live in Canada, so I don't think the US is superior to any country in regards to 'who is better'.

edit...
is there a "i talk. it types" program that would work for posting on the forums? oh wate never mind... i forgot distibuting programs is against the rules here.
I'm usually somewhat of a grammar Nazi. I know my spelling and grammar is far from perfect, but i don't think anyone can say i'm incoherent. Well, at least when sober, that is.
But i have to agree with the Nazis on this one. A forum isn't like IRC or some IM program. You have all the time you need to type, lay out, spell check and post each post that you make. Again, as many people have said, i feel this only applies to those of us who have grown up speaking English as a first language, for quite obvious reasons.
The thing that bugs me more, however, is not simple typos or poor spelling, but those whom are quite evidently too lazy to type "you" as opposed to "u". I mean, come on, will 3 letters kill you? I mean, heaven forbid using that keyboard full of all the letters you can imagine being put to use!
My biggest peeve with "txt speak" is the phrase "ur". Ok, so 2 letters there, "u" and "r", phonetically "you" and "are". When these letters are used independantly by lazy bastards they replace the aformentioned words. But put them together and you get "your", for some bizarre reason. I read it and see "ur" as "you are", but the grammatically Yet another victim to Nems 'Get another damn swearword!' campaign. people that use it see it as a fitting replacement for "you're" and "your".
"sms speak" was created because when typing an sms on a cell phone you have either little time or little space to convey your message, or both, and it's perfectly acceptable in that situation to use it. But this is a forum where you have unlimited time to make your post and you have nigh-on unlimited space to write your message. Please, for the love of all that is holy, use it.
Posts with aformentioned "typos" will get simply skipped, ignored, tortured, burned, and scattered all along the dirty coasts of your nearest dirty coasts (probably in a unholy fashion).
Can you explain that I don't get it.
Some time ago, a suggestion was posted along the lines that there ought to be a "scorp.ian" that "ho.vars without flapping" This was, of course, so ridiculous that it immediately became a catch phrase, eventually progressing far enough to merit its own emoticon.
That aside, atrocious spelling and grammar, as well as poorly thought out posts and malformed sentences are a well documented phenomenon in gaming societies, defined explicitly by John Gabriel's Greater Internet ******* Theory.
Moreover, it seems that the greater the popularity of any game, the more common they become. Observe the official Blizzard forums.

Damn the world.... it does NOT hurt to use the extra letters, they put them there for a reason. Honestly they should make the forum respell things like 'teh' or 't3h' to 'the', just for the stupid ones out there....
Nicely put, I'm lost. I seriously struggled to read that, to the point of giving in. And I don't like giving in when reading NS forum posts. Do you know why? Well, it is because all the people on these forums are intelligent human beings, who make valid points whenever they post. They also all check their grammar. They have also worked out how to use the edit button.
It gets annoying. You go to read an interesting topic, then BLAM! Speeling (ha ha) errors all over, no punctuation, or anything. I'm fine on IM's like that, except for paragraphs.. (insert shudder)
I use proper english and my full range of university-level vocabulary because it's what sets me and fellow college students apart from the crowd of high schoolers and younguns, and helps me identify other fellows in my demographic.
And I still hate every single one of you who kept endlessly moaning about my small text.
I'm writing this sentence small just to annoy you. Like them apples?

I appreciate a good laugh as much as anyone, but that thread is not funny. It's like laughing at disabled people. And anyone who does that can, quite frankly, get bent.
Oh, and a bad joke (which is what that thread has become) doesn't become more fun just because you repeat it. Try going to the Swirve Utopia forums and suggest "Frigates" (with a wink) to be implemented in the B&S forum. If you don't get banned, you'll at least be unable to find the thread soon enough.

That sentence wasn't annoying, but a whole paragraph of it was.
I assume that people with some simple spelling/grammar mistakes made a genuine mistake and/or use English as a second Language. However, one post a few weeks back was typed like this: "tHaTz reTArDeD SUYF". That made me snap to a certain extent... it actually takes more effort to press shift for every other letter than it does to just press shift for capitals where they belong. Grade 1 or 2 grammar if I remember correctly....

First of all, how many times do people have to be told not to post illegal stuff on game forums? Secondly, what, may I ask, is a "tomato website". Thirdly... get a freakin dictionary. This isn't designed to make fun of CS players (aside from the ones who made these posts), just that I didn't want to post anything from the NS forums because the posts I found were too recognizable.

What if some people can make it out, and some people can't? The whole POINT of having a language is so that EVERYONE can use it and understand it. If ppl understood vague gestures and drawings perfectly, this post would be a few random squiggles of coloured lines, possibly with some waving and random thrusts.
IMO, it's simply unpatriotic to shorten and abbreviate words at an excessive level. In George Orwell's distopian novel "1984", there is a new language created ("Newspeak") that shortens all words and removes all negatives. ("bad" becomes "nogod", awful becomes "doublenogoodplus".) This is understandable, (despite not actually being an abreviation,) but it murders the language.
We would not like to live in a society where we could not express ourselves in the way we can now, so why degenerate the language and so lead to that eventual scenario.
