    lol err ok, KFDM can do it as he's got the coolest name, black plagues hologram projector things sounds cool tho if u wanna incorporate it into it.

    KFDM, ill send u the current one so uve got an idea of the size, as for the textures well, ull hav to look thru the rest of the screens but the corridors and stasis weve kept to the wall_grey textures, and the majority of other textures ive used r dark metal ones and the comp_ textures if that helps

    I'll see what I can do. I made a real rough version of what I was thinking the room should look like this afternoon but I don't have photoshop at the moment so I couldn't scale it down and I had to rush to class (I was almost late to Physics). I'll try to post a screen later this evening.

    This is what I have so far. The room averages around 350 polys. I didn't want to go too high yet since I wasn't sure how it would fit with the rest of the map.

    Edit: I should probally mention this shot isn't gamma corrected.

    That's a lot better, although I'm not too keen on the green. Some wire textures going to the central "holoemitter" would be a nice touch too.

    wow.... cool room. looks like something that comes out of star wars. maybe add more lights to it? the only lights seem to be the computer monitors and green glowing lights

    well sheenas missing in action so i need someone else to do the voices for the weapon descriptions, preferabbly female (or who can use a filter to make urself sound female) and computer-like

    <a href='http://www.bios-clan.uk-xtreme.net/Downloads/Meat/test.wav' target='_blank'>Example </a>

    The map looks really nice so far guys, keep up the good work. As for that welder sound... If I was a noobie I would want to punch that person in the face for making it sound so hard.

    Put <b>SHINY LIGHTS</b> on the stairs of the holoroom?
    <!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->|

     L_
        L_<!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
    L's represent lamps
    It looks gritty right now, but reminds me far too much of the dark boring custom maps. Better to have the map overly shiny than boring.

    wat wuld be even better is if u had little lips on the steps so u can only see the light emitting out from under the step as oppose to the light source itself

    like...
    <!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->
    _
      |
    *__
        |
    <!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
    and the * being the light
  • ReeseReese Join Date: 2003-05-08 Member: 16143Members
    I would suggest bringing those monitors set in the wall a little closer to the edge of the wall. Like make the lip more on the order of 8-16 units. Also try to find a different texture for the top of those seats. I agree with the idea of putting lighting into a slight lip on the seats. I also think the part near the holo generator in the ceiling that is set back into the ceiling could use a few little lights. (~trn_ns would be my first pick.... love that texture)

    I also wanted to say that this looks like some fantastic work everybody. Today is the first time I read this thread, so it is kind of interesting to be able to watch almost the entire development process as it goes on. What i'm wondering now is if listing it as the map specified in the configuration files for the natural selection menu will make it available from the training map selection. That would really look slick.

    only make it subtle though, try and keep the dark feel of the room

    also dark, how u comin along with those sounds?

    and ***PLLEEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSEEEEE*** can someone hav a go at the weapon voices for me, has to be in the style of a computer voice, i put an example on the previous page

    script courtesy of Forlorn (slightly edited by me to make things shorter and remove any use of figures incase they change in the future, and to not differentiate between classic and combat)...
    <!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->
    LIGHT MACHINE GUN :: The Default weapon that is available on spawn. Fair damage and unlimted range. Versatile and effective, more so in groups.

    SHOTGUN :: A Semi-automatic weapon that is particurly deadly in close quarters, holds 8 shells that can be loaded individually.

    HEAVY MACHINE GUN :: Not as accurate as the Light Machine Gun, but twice as deadly and with a bigger clip. The nature of it's armor peircing rounds makes it the ultimate anti-lifeform gun, but only does half damage against structures.

    GRENADE LAUNCHER :: Ideal for groups of enemies and structures. Grenades explode on contact with an enemy or after 2 seconds from leaving the barrel.

    PISTOL :: The Default secondary weapon, available on spawn. Perfect accuracy and good power, but with a small clip.

    KNIFE :: a close combat weapon which shuld only be used against a Kharaa as a last resort!

    WELDER :: Used to repair structures, armor, and to weld open or closed certain mission criticals.

    HAND GRENADE :: You only get one grenade when upgraded, so make it count. They take 1 second to prime and throw.

    MINES :: Mines affix to any surface, and explode on contact with an enemy or after absorbing a slight of damage

    HEAVY ARMOR :: Replaces the standard marine armour with something substantially more durable . The armor's extra bulk slows the marine slightly, causing him to move at 95% of normal speed.

    JETPACK :: Allows sustained flight, until the energy meter hits zero. Energy recharges as long as you are not using the jetpack. Cannot be worn simultaneously with heavy armour
    <!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->

    and plz only say ur gonna do this IF U ARE WILLING TO DO THE WHOLE LOT, ive had countless ppl say theyre gonna do voices and either just make a start or not bother all together

    2) im gonna start building the ready room and i need input! my first thought, and perhaps the most obvious one, wuld be to recreate the corridor that u see as the background of the steam ns menu and hav it like a t-junction

    and when u try and join aliens u get shouted out by the voice of the comm (dark) "what is this treachery?!" but itll also leave it open to add a alien training map later. and if u try to spectate u get a "this aint no spectator sport son"

    3) once again i need a voice actor for the weapons!!! (see above)

    I don't like the shade of blue that was in the lights.rad file already so I'll try a different color but I thought I'd post a pic just to show how it looks with lights under the seats.

    I'll add some small lights to accent certain areas later (and yeah I like ~trn_ns also )

    Edit: Tweeked the room a bit more.

    I keep forgetting to put that this isn't gamma corrected. I won't be able to get photoshop back on this machine till next weekend.

    I think what you should be going for is simplicity. Look at the Half-Life Training map and try and take some inspiration from it. I like the idea of the training voices. Reminds me of the CS tutorial and co_daimos. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    You could also use animated lights and arrows on the floor to guide players around.

    The shooting range looks a little over-cramped, make the room bigger and space out the aliens. Would it be possible for them to Pop-up behind stuff like in the HL shooting range? If they were to move at the speed they actually run, then that would be excellent practise for shooting moving targets.

    The Holo-room. I think the seat-lights and ramps are a little much. You could get away with the simply a Projector in the floor, the alien, and a few lights or two. I like the overall shape of the room. It allows players to move around and view the alien at every angle.

    ha! i hav no intention of copying the borefest that is the half-life training course, if u want somethin that simple go make it yourself but i intend to make something good!

    any offers for the voice acting of the weapons yet?

    Had some unexpected stuff pop up on the weekend (had to install my new clutch) so I wasn't able to work on the commander voices. The goal of September 1st should still be on target though.

    A few pages back I have a script for having the commander describe the weapons to the player in kind of an impromptu-last minute weapons training course.... If we can't find a voice for the computer I can go ahead with that script.

    i did go play it b4 i posted that, trouble is i found it mighty repetitive, it was like, jump, jump, jump.
    crouch, crouch, crouch
    jump, crouch, jump
    crouch jump, crouch jump, crouch jump
    jump, jump, jump
    long jump
    bang head on keyboard

    and thats as far as i got as the long jump thing doesnt appear to work in steam <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> its as if theyve slowed down the crouching sequence so u cant actually pull off a long jump

    ill see if ive got won half-life still

    edit: well, it suited half-life the game, but i dont see how u culd do the same sorta thing for ns and im not sure why anyone wuld want to, am i the only one who preferred the training level in halo?!

    I have to say i don't really like this.

    You should try to aim for straightforward clean voice that is easy to understand. Remember that a big part of the NS playerbase is european and for us to understand the english perfectly, we need it to be well spoken, without the exaggerated and stupid accent.

    This is just a friendly tip from a euro <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
