Doom 3 Overall?

Great game but it has some REALLY annoying things that rub me the wrong way:
1) The 'Body Dissolve'. C'mon, let us litter the halls with imps and zombies. Hitting a guy so hard he turns to ash is sorta stupid. I imagine that yes, the body of the hellspawns would go back to hell, but it doesn't let us get a good look at what we just killed. It took me about 5 hours to figure out those double headed things had a brain or something on their back.
2) The Chaingun. Carries a pitiful amount of ammunition (why on earth does an assault rifle that uses a magazine carry just as much as a belt-fed minigun?), has a surprisingly slow rate of fire, and is horrendously inaccurate. I only used it twice - To test it by spraying a lot of bullets around and killing NOTHING, and on the big spider she-****.

Let's look at it this way, you won't have any horrid fps drops with tons of imp corpses lying around.
Just be happy they actually care for your FPS. I know I am since I'm running on a crappy GeForce 4 MX440 (even if I do not have the game due to being unable to buy until some time next week)

Actually the monsters themselves don't give me FPS drop, but getting hit with an Imp fireball is FPS *HELL* (That's irony for you...)
Their particle effects have a very unnatural hit on my system, it's like their particle system is whack or something.
Oh, and this game could've used some Soldier Of Fortune Ghoul 3.0 lovin <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Being able to blow off limbs... arcs of blood sailing through the air leaving a arcing stain on the wall...
1) yeah your right about that there should be a option to turn it off im sure somewhere in a console command you can find it
2) your right chaingun is pretty crappy only time i use it is by panicing and accidently pressing teh button instead of my shotty or plasma rifle
now my feelings of the game
1) its kinda strange that the shotgun does sooo much damage or that the monsters are soo weak like those 4 legged bull thingies with the robot hind legs 2 shotgun shots and they are dead this may be because of the fact that im playing on normal but im not sure
2) i realy like the flashlight with its limited range you have to scan the room and all of a sudden you see a imp in the dark corner and he starts screaming and stuff thats gotta be one of the coolest features of the game
Pinky and the two-headed things die quickly because of their size - most of the shot hits them and does full damage.
I think it could've used a bit more balance work before being released.
Plasma also - It's nice and all but I'd LOVE to see what I'm shooting at instead of a blue orgy on my screen <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Right above 'Blood Effects'... gonna see if I can figure out what it does. I probably won't since I'm at an area full of Lost Souls right now and if it affects body dissolve, I won't notice it on the Souls.
Hmm well I guess I should've remember my doom lore <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> Nightmare is a difficulty setting, duh.
It's like HL's flashlight all over again, but this time, it hurts you XD
I wonder if you can sneak up on imps and end up jumping in front of them and shine that flashlight of yours down its eyes....
Also, I must admit. The shotgun is horribly overpowered.. or just every other gun is horribly underpowered. The assault rifle takes about 20 rounds to kill an imp while it takes shotgun 1-2 shots.
(I'm on the part where you have to vent the toxic gas after that guy is blabbering off about his "legions" killing the reinforcements)
A few qualms. Your point about the chain-gun is well noted, but I have found it useful for taking down the Super-Soldiers (the ones with either one tentacle arm and are *really* fast or the ones with chain-guns). It's also great against Cacodemons and Revenants, at least in my experiance. I feel it could use some more ammo capacity though.
Things dying. Yes, it's Doom, but in Doom 1 & 2 stuff died fast but there was a lot of it. There are far fewer monsters in Doom 3 but they seem to go down just as fast. One shotgun blast takes down most low level monsters, and I was astonished when Revenants and Cacodemons only too 3. Super-Soldiers only take 2. I am literally swimming in ammunition that I just can't use because there's not enough stuff to shoot at. Granted I'm playing on Normal difficulty, but even so.
Colour. A strange thing to get annoyed about, but still. The demons do look rather similar. Theres some variety in the zombies, but for the demons they all seem to be shades of brown with tinges of yellow. I loved the boss battle with the giant fat things with guns for arms that I can't remember the names of, not least because they looked quite differant to their brethran. I expected Cacodemons to look similar to their Doom 1 counterparts, but instead they were brown. Revenants seem to be the only ones with colour.
I'll post more thoughts after I've finished (I'm in Delta Labs 2)
From what I heard, it's like a charged plasma cannon of doom that frags you as well if charged for too long.
When comparing the shotgun to the BFG, the shotgun is like a peashooter.
Strangely enough though, bosses can take more than one BFG hit o_O
Now it's really late and dark... scary, haha.
Oh and didn't Cacodemons in Doom1/2 take about 8 or so shotgun blasts?`
g_showplayershadow - Definately turn that on - I very much like the effect. Too bad there's no 'show player model'.
com_showfps - Obvious
pm_thirdperson (also has pm_thirdpersonangle/clip/death/height/range (so pm_thirdpersonrange, etc.)) if you want to take some screenshots.
r_lightscale - Default 2, a good way to make things brighter without 'washing out' light areas.
If I want to be scared out of my pants, I'll go back to System Shock 2. It has co-op, it has atmosphere, it runs at 75+ FPS, it's still got 2/3 left of the game I haven't gotten around to playing yet, and I already know it's good.
If you think I'm being narrow-minded about Doom3, it's probably because I am. PM me to try to convince me it's worth buying.

EDIT : I was beat by Testament =________=
but the non stop killing is always fun, me sittin here for countless hours cursing out loud "take that you son of a *****" and stuff like that after every kill <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> pretty satisfying
i give it a 8.5/10 imo (btw its replayability is %0 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
I had to manage 30 fps with 300 ping during my CS days....just be happy you don't actually have to deal with ping <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
It's just a personal gripe of mine but why oh why must every FPS game *insist* on robbing you of all your weapons at some point? I'm really getting tired of that.
The Guardian battle. Great fight, great atmosphere, but what's a framerate? I've been running in 640 480 low details with no problems at all, but that one battle was about three times harder than it should have been because my framerate hit the single digets.
System Shock 2? We're talking about doom 3...
<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Anyway I have to wait till the 13th because some UK Marketing person thought releasing DOOM3 on Friday the 13th would be a cool idea <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Asault Rifle is too weak.
Bodies dissappear.
Gets a *bit* predictable and repetitive. Multiplayer is bland. =/
But what I like about is it actually has a *GOOD* storyline! And it forces you to take your time throughout the game. No more run-and-gun. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Although I still have yet to be chased down a hall by hordes of Demons, firing blind Pistol shots behind me. Never happend, although I wish it did. =/
Carmack did a good job - It's a good game, and runs suprisingly well. (Pentium 2.8, 1 Gig of Ram, Radeon 9800 128mb.)
I'm running Doom 3 at 1024x768 on high settings with Vsync on - FLAWLESSLY. I'm getting around 60FPS (At LEAST).
Sounds are great to - nothing like hearing your teammates fight for thier lives over the intercom, or hearing thier screams and gunshots echo through the halls of the facility. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I'm having a great time.
I'm always on the edge, always taking my time - always peering around the corner.
Oh - and no one even bothered to mention this:
The AI: ROCKS!
I've seen Imps roll out of my gunfire, crawl up a wall, and then leap at my face.
I'v seen Zombies slowly lurch away and regroup and try and strike again.
I've seen Zombie Marines actually duck, strafe and use cover! I've had some AWESOME firefights.
Me and my friend bought ours together and I played some at his house. It's great, and I wanna play more except for this crap >=(
