The funniest thing is when commanding the marine team, the only thing they understand is "waypoint."
I couldn't stop laughing, my marines stuck to the waypoint like flies to honey. I accidentaly left it on and I had 7 marines in cargo just sitting around doing nothing. I toyed with them, moved the waypoint right, then left, then right side of the room again. I couldn't stop laughing.
But yeah, noobs are a problem, but also a solution.
Buggeh: Random Player, if you go onos every game and die too quickly because you are inexperienced, you hurt your team a lot. For the team, it would be better if you put a hive up instead.

^ that was an actual conversation i had in-game with someone. We had one hive for 15 minutes, i explained to him and asked him to kindly put up a hive. He didnt. He went onos, for the 4th map on a row, and got telefragged, as opposed to running into 4 HMG's. He didnt care either. He wasnt even ****. He just happily F4'ed for a new round of onos whorage. The amount of anger that boiled up in me because of players like this is probably one of the reasons I rarely play NS now.

The America's Army training system works because 1) you have a login, which means you only have to do it once 2) said login system also keeps track of things like honor, which I have no idea how would work in NS 3) you get rewarded with more than just playing the game if you do well in training, like with sniper/medic (right?) qualification.
We've already got tens of thousands of people signed up for the forum, so maybe we can make use of those IDs. Even better if it encourages people to use the forums (read and learn, rather than spam I&S without searching).

Why not give the Comm the ability to slap people for damage (or otherwise discipline his troops). Not following orders...get disciplined. Then maybe people would start listening to orders.

know what is a great way to learn the maps. is the named minimaps with the names of the locations, this easily helps to learn the maps easier.
This should be an official thing, then you won't get people that say "urgh where is this miasma walkway", i'm not sure who made these again, but they spelled furnace as Furnance...
If there's a way to track Steam ID's for Consties and Veterans etc. it surely can't be that hard to have a player tracking for a hazard course... can it?
Even if the training was optional, at least it would give us something to tell people to do when they're new. "RTFM" doesn't really work right now for obvious reasons.

Well howabout we do it the way NS 1.04 did it? With the little flash program that started up when your installer started? Thats how I learned a TON of stuff, which made me curious about how to play the game for real. Just putting that back in alone will help a lot.
Oh yea... Same and more; this little intro made me spent hours on reading the manual... And my friends, that manual was the biggest reason of my love with NS at first sight...
Right now I find that nsguide thing a joke. The one person I saw on a server with that purple icon absolutely went berserk at a noob and flammed him into oblivion for dropping a sensory first, and then was yelling about getting an admin to ban him. I just think we should try to teach the noobs, even if they don't do what we tell them at first. I mean, when I started learning, my head was just swimming with all that was being told to me. So I often ignored them and did my own thing, which I guess wouldn't be best for the team, but it helped me learn at first.

Your best bet is to report that guide to a guide lead, with logs, etc. Overall, it's a needed program, so try to help them out with that sort of thing, and not tar everyone with the same brush from one incident.
Edit: And as Salvation said, for whatever reason, some servers use icons such as guide, developer, etc for reserved slots.
Most notibly, the Voogru servers. Its like a slap in the face, really. Not only are they using the icons, people are flaming noobs with them. Way to give a bad impression.
