well lets see. I once knew this kid who did self-immolation on himself and received 3rd degree burns. He went to the hospital and all they could do for him was administer massive amounts of morphine. He sat up..seemed fine but the doctor said he only had 2 hours to live because the burns he received were so deep that his internal organs were fried.

Lucky for him it wasn't second degree, otherwise his nerve endings would have reacted massively. None-the-less, that is just harsh.

Sometimes. This might sound weird but I actually like pain...it releives me of stress

/edit Not sometimes....didn't mean to make it sound like it's worth bragging about. Just making a point.

    on the toenail issue again:

I've had a few, I think I've had the nails fixed 5 times now. The last two took off part of the nail. The first one is still okay, looks like the second one is working its way back.

The worst part about the second: it wasn't fully numbed and the nail had formed a spike that was tunnelling through the flesh. At least that's what the doctor said, that and that tunnelling is something he hadn't seen in a long time. That was bad enough but he gave me the root killing acid too. That made it spike with pain every few seconds for the next few hours. Oh yeah, fun.

lol, it was a nerve, I'm not immune silly XD
It just means that local anaesthetic can't numb that one nerve that runs through my body. Means they could kill the root of the nail in my left foot no problem, but the nerves goes down my right leg (if it's anything like my mother's it runs from head to foot pretty much) so while my toe was totally without sensation I could still feel the cutting pain from that one nerve. There's nothing good about it =s

There's something surreal about watching a pair of surgeons shoving silvery gunk up a blooded hole in your foot that used to be where your nail came from though o.O

~gives all the ingrown nail sufferers a cookie~

Big toe, inner side on both. The shot on the underside was quite a shock; much more painful than what I expected. I wish I got both sides worked on, because I don't want to go back.

Also, studies (I have no source to provide) were done on men and women to see how they responded to pain. Men giggled, women cried/yelled out. This wasn't intense pain, just minor stuff - however, it did prove that men and women react differently to pain, and also shows that laughing at it isn't abnormal.

I guess that's true too. I said what I said because I'm currently going through hell week for football right now and my arms are bruised up extremely bad from hitting. They hurt, but when I look at my arms which are bruised ALL OVER it makes me feel relieved for some reason.

All the other players on our team wear arm pads which make you feel pretty much nothing when you give them a "flipper", but I've refused to wear them since my freshmen year. Maybe I'm weird or something, but I like the fact that I'm bruised up...it feels good. (I suppose that isn't normal, but whatever)

when the body is in pain, adrenaline is released. hence the high you can get when you have a piercing done, etc.

The ultimate pain must surely be something like getting papercutted everywhere on your body.

I have a ingrown toenail (no major pain) and my pediatrist told me i should have it removed. But after reading all these stories, f**k him, i'll leave it there.

yeah, you should definitely get it removed if your pediatrist advices it. Some people are lucky and can just clip theirs back but if it's bad enough it's often better to remove it; it'll just keep growing into your flesh, cutting in, bleeding, causing horrendous agony and it's highly likley to get infected. If you leave it, you might end up having to lose the whole toe rather than just the nail =P

Also, I would imagine going through childbirth is painful as well, because it is a perpetual motion of cramping pain, much like the ones you would get whenever a stomach ache occurs, but including back pain and all sorts of others. Mouth pain is terribly painful, from what I hear it is one of the most painful things to have to go through, for the nerve endings are located right near the brain. Also, I would imagine other forms of tortures are even more painful. Finally, what can sometimes be deemed the most painful of all is mental pain. There are some people out there who have to go through torrents of mental processes that will drive their mind crazy.

Personally, I believe being skinned alive then having your fingers chopped off slowly, while specialists are keeping you alive, and having your limbs severed aftewards, while your eyes are being gouged out; and finally, having your bowels removed while they pour gasoline on your head while at the same time lighting you on fire and shoving your body up through the rectum on a pole much like the babylonians would do whilst throwing you in a pool of Brazilian pirranas, would be the most painful experience of all.

    Poured gasoline on myself.

    Lit a lighter.

3rd degree burns on 45% of my lower right leg.

    Didn't want to tell parents.

Wiped Vasoline Moisturizer on it, tied a wife beater around it, called it good.

Walked around like that for 4 days.

    THAT is pain.

I've had ingrown toenails removed *4* times from *both* big toes. I was so happy 3 days after the operation because I could wiggle my toes without pain. I was dumb and decided to go an entire year without having them taken care of. Eventually got to the point where I devellopped a severe blood infection (Even though I cleaned the wounds out daily). The 1 day of horrid pain was nothing compared to the fear of touching my toes for an entire year. If I bumped them at all there was so much pain I felt light-headed and nasueated. (spelling..)

    What's an ingrown toenail?

If you look down at your nails you'll notice they curve down at the sides to fit into a neat groove in the flesh of your toe. Normally everything is hunky dorey and that's as far as it goes, the growth mainly going forwards. In the case of ingrown toenail however the nail grows sideways, carving it's way into the sides of your toe until it's cut back (for some this remedies it, for others it's the way their nail grows and they have to be removed permanently) =P

Probably the most painful thing I can think of are the treatments my dad and sister had. I can't remember the name of the condition, but it makes your teeth fall out if left alone. The treatment involves metal rods being rammed between the gaps in your teeth. I'm not sure how it helps; maybe God demands it? I dunno.

It's a hereditary condition, apparently. I'm not looking forward to my next dentist's appointment...

    Though all my shoes fit fine and I trimmed mine properly. In my case it's a hereditary nail-growth problem. I kinda think of it like how some people have naturally curly hair while other have straight, it's just that our 'curly' nails rip through our flesh rather than making having a straight-style haircut difficult ^^;

I had my toenails permanently stunted, so that the nails no longer grow around one edge. I have yet to have any pain on that side - the problem is, the other side hurts. I don't want to go through the needles again, though. My slightly ingrown toenails hurt less!

For those interested, my toenails don't look overly strange. The skin has conformed to the nail like it normally would, so it looks pretty natural.
