I can't compare them, they are too different. Doom 3 wins in the atmosphere department, but Half-Life 2 will be overly good. Doom 3 also tends to a bit cheesy with their graphics. They make you exposed to them constantly, where Half-Life 2's is more subtle and you notice things (like the shine and luster the tiles have in de_dust)

I dont think they're talking about HL2 vs doom3, they're talking about the Tire from HL2 vs Doom 3.
I think they are very different, with the tire you could really go with elegant simplicity and functionality, while Doom3 has the depth of features that the tire could never hope to match, even if it had individually detailed treads...

Who wants to tell them that the Doom 3 engine can easily do the exact same thing, and that physics in games is not a new or amazing thing? Can I? Can I <i>please</i>?

I think the coolest thing about CS:S is that the players feet NEVER SLIDE, I can watch them for ages and the way the characters walk almost seamlessly amazes me.

The TIRE is in counter strike source's de_dust you can shoot a tire at the top of an incline out side of terrorist spawn and it rolls down the hill! It's gorgeous
