Rose online is actually made by the same people who made ragnarok online... it kinda shows considering it's basically 3D ragnarok. Problem is however that it just doesn't seem to have the same character as ye olde RO. Most of the areas seem to be big expanses of space rather than the picturesque towns, jungles and environments of RO and I don't particularly like the way the chars look either On a fun note the english is even worse than in RO too ^^;

Not a "Mmorpg" per se... more like a massively multiplayer online real-time strategy game called Shattered Galaxy. the best way to think of this game is like starcraft, but with elements of an RPG, and the ability to customize your troops, give them better engines, guns, sensors, armor, etc. without any kind of real time troop reinforcement, only tactical insertions of troops you've selected for battle.
i'm not really doing a good job at explaining the game so you should check it out yourself, but trust me when i say that instead of playing the game to level like you do in most MMo's, i play this game to enjoy tactical robot combat with explosions and science fiction setting and awesomeness. the leveling is a happy side effect of me being awesome.
**edit** oh right, it IS free, and always will be, but there is an option to pay to get a slightly better character, though it is not neccesary if you have any sense of tactical awareness.

This sounds very similar to an idea I came up with for a game I'd really like to play.
[edit]Although, only in the "massivly multiplayer strategy game with actual strategy, plus supply lines and a fixed number of troops" sense. The RPG and sci fi parts I can sacrifice quite happily.[/edit]

Hmmm it seems Anarchy online has gone free for its main game, only requiring you to pay for their expansion packs. Has anyone played this? is it any good?
Now you can experience Anarchy Online totally free of charge. You don't pay for the software. You don't pay any subscription.
The offer includes the original Anarchy Online..........
........*You can play free of charge until January 15th 2006. Should Funcom deem that a too high-increase in server load or other unforeseen events will lessen the experience for existing players the offer will be terminated at our discretion. The free version does not include access to any of the three expansion packs. Should you wish to upgrade to any of the expansion packs monthly subscription and client fees will be added.

Its a really good, game I would be playing it still but the people I was playing with, we formed a org and one day the leader decided to kick everyone he didnt know personaly or ever see on; which was most of the org. As he played at the oddest of hours when no one else was on =/
Shattered Galaxy was decent, until you moved up to the veteran planet and have trouble getting into battles and when you finally get in, you are destroyed by people with many more levels or stat points than yourself. Not to mention that Tact/Edu whoring is the only viable route for a non-player at higher levels, and learning that unit group x that you've been using as your one of your primary squads is mostly useless. Making a new character sucks too thanks to the large number of max level players who reside on the newbie planet instead of moving up.
Still commanding a squad of 10 cloaked ghasts with H-weapons is pretty for awhile.

I tried anarchy online when it decided to go free. I didn't think it was worth my bandwidth to download. And I have cable internet. I thought it sucked. Especially since I couldn't find any relatively inexpensive gun that was better than my starting hunter's pistol or whatever it was. The graphics also seemed pretty ugly. I quit at about lvl 8 when all i could kill were little rodents still. That was a wasted 1.5 days if you ask me. Plus I screwed up my character skills and found out too late that it would take me a few more levels to get some weapon I wanted that if I had played right I could have had it already or something like that. I don't really remember, but it sucked.
