<div class="IPBDescription">flames most likely</div> Why do people say this...

<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> You play CS on a regular basis, don't you?<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I seen a few people say it on the forums and on servers...

what does playing cs have anything to do with ns?

if it is trying to say they're a noob (like in a post below that has been locked) how does that justify it?

CS and NS are two totally different mods, which require some (different types of) skill.

Flame away, and for the record yes I DO play cs - what you going to do about it, spank me?

The majority of the CS community are infantile, socially-despicable trolls.

Hello, CS Player. How may i direct your stay at NS... Locked is on the first floor, Ban is on the second. Thank you and have a nice day.

Yeah, majority. Every so often along comes a nice, reasonably intelligent person who we don't peg as being a CS player.

I going to feel sorry for myself and agree with eediot. CS itself is a great game, but the community ruins its atmosphere. It's only fun if you play with your friends but that's about it.

Majority of servers throw out hackussations at vaguely 3x the rate NS is going (WARNING : Vague figure pulled out!)

Sadly I think its intended as an insult. Despite CS being the most played online game ever, its attracted a reputation for being played by cheats, script kiddies, idiots and psychotics.

Theres two ways of looking at that - its either unfounded sneering with little basis in reality, or that the majority of online gamers are adrenaline addicted anti-social geeks.

For the record, I believe its the former, and on the whole playing CS will give you certain advatages in playing NS, the marine certainly has parallels with CS as a whole, and the very nature of the two being mods of the same engine will give you an advantage.

Further investigation would suggest that you are not in fact "degamer106" the creator of the locked post. I assumed you were the same person because you have a silly name and it seemed like a CS player thing to do, to ressurect a locked thread.

My apologies, but the general stereotypes still stand.

Agreed. I had a dedicated server up for 10 minutes and some idiot joins. The server is called "Kaze / Cpl. Hicks' [CD] Server". My username was Cpl. Hicks.

"Kaze" is someone I know IRL and they also run a server, and we share the forums.

The new player joins and I say I'm the admin, btw, in case you want a different map. He responds: "WTH OMG BS! I KNOW KAZE HE IS THE ADMIN!!!1"

Me: Look at the server name. Look at my name. Notice my ping.
/me uses admin_csay "Cpl. Hicks is the administrator"
Him: WTH YOU HAXED THE SERVER!
    /me kicks player
    player rejoins
Me: See? I told you I was the admin.
Him: WTH I'M TELLING KAZE AND YOU WILL BE BANNED FOR HACKING!
    /me bans player.

Please take note that the MOTD also says that I'm an admin. Too many experiences like this lead to the assumption 99.1% of the cs community has serious issues.

I don't believe the majority of CS players are idiots, and even if they were it wouldn't necessarily follow that a random CS player would be an idiot any more than a random idiot will be a CS player.

I'd hate the NS community to have a reputation for eliteism and intolerance.

    I think you're wrong- I don't think the majority of C-S players are ****.

You simply don't notice the decent people, they remain silent (as they have no need for "OMG NUB SCRIBS HAXER" comments).

It's the same for newspapers, you will always get "President blamed for raise in crime" from ****-off citizens, but no-one is gonna fill the front page by saying "John Dee feels the President is doing a standard job".

Now think tha... Am I talking about newspapers?

    Hmm.

It's not just the stereotype that all CS players are foaming at the mouth teenagers with poor grasp on the English language, it's also that CS, in comparison to NS, is a very very simple game, and a lot of the time statements like "go back to CS" are because the person saying it feels that NS is too complex for whoever they're flaming. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

True, but the cons of the outspoken annoying community [and still a significantly sized part] in public/war and ladder [trust me on this] most often outweigh the the decent [i.e breaking even in courtesy] side of the community.

Edit for clarity: I was referring to Garet Jax's post.

I'm gonna give out my personal experience as a former hardcore CS player then if you don't mind.

Me and my friends started a full-blown 32 player server on a LAN. We were having fun while during the beginning....hoever the next few minutes were quite....interesting and disturbing to say the least....

Expletives were being thrown left and right (not for humor, more like insult) between players, and eventually we had a hacker in there (Mind you, the LAN staff don't do anything about hackers at all)

Needless to say, he was a bit iffy around with using the hacks and was very susceptible. I myself had set up the rcon (because my friend gets a bit abusive with the gravity himself) so I had to spectate. Needless to say, he only speedhacked when he didn't shoot. At other times like running around the map he does indeed use the speedhack.

Needless to say, I caught him off guard and killed him. He complained and said I hacked, I kicked him.

Next thing you know, the guy went over to my seat and tried to throw a punch at me. Needless to say he got pulled out of the cafe and had his membership uhh.....forgot the word....

Mind you, there's only one hacker, but everyone was blaming each other for practically anything (OMG you h4xed and the sort. Think of it as flaming in real life)

So yeah, sort of made me believe that the CS community are really quite....interesting to say the least. This made me believe so. Of course, there are a few decent servers I play on like HomeLAN every once in a while. Majority of the time though Im stuck on ye olde pub experience with these kind of people.

Hang on, so was this at a cyber-cafe sort of thing? Surely any decent cyber-cafe has security measures to ensure you CAN'T install any new programs (ie, hacks) without at least having to enter a password, I'm pretty sure my local PC Arena does.
  • RaVeRaVe Join Date: 2003-06-20 Member: 17538Members
Problem is in Hong Kong, things can be ENTIRELY different than other cyber cafes

Surely enough, I know one that overcharges a lot but has a nice staff team that pretty much handle hackers and all that. Sadly I end up going to the rundown one because
    a) They have faster PCs
    b) They're cheaper
    c) They beat the pants out of the other cafe in terms of profit gained in a month.

Needless to say, I was gonna give it a second chance but it shut down. I was stuck to the rundown one....

Though, after 3 days, I found NS, and climbed my way all the way up here. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Things I have learned from this thread:
the word that RaVe wants is revoked

Wangler wants eediot to peg him (n/c)

and every one should use my term instead:
    CSNub

There are pleanty of perfectly fine players out there.
However there are generaly atleast 2 friken idiots on each server (if not more), and they overshadow every one. These are the people that when going to another mod will be in for a bout 3 secs, and then scream THIS MOD TUXZORS I R GOING BACK TO CS, for another 10 mins until lthey are banned for flamming.

These are the people that you recognize as CS players, I also used to play CS ALOT, there realy was a time where almost every server would have atleast one cheater.
Who remembers the days when speed hacks first came out, every one had em.

I had one of the better ones (alowed you to move before round start), if a cheater came on and we couldn't kick him (or he kept rejoining) I would join the oposit team, run up to him at the start of each round and kill him. I would then type kill.
I realy realy hate cheaters <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> (and now I work with some one who is proud that he cheats at CS, god help me from ever having a lead pipe).

You guys are aware that the NS community is much the same?

Scroll over to general discussion and the new player forum and take a look at the locked threads, or the threads asking about NS:S, they get flamed. They're new players, new to the forums asking an honest question, and they get flamed because they didn't read 5 stickied threads which take multiple pages to read. Not everyone takes the time to do that, but that doesn't excuse NS forum regulars that flame them. Instead of answering the question, referring them to the FAQ if they ask a question handled in there, people start posting things like "USE SEARCH YOU NUB", or "RETARD".

How is this different from the so called "lame CS kiddies"? Don't kid yourself, the NS community isn't as (newbie) friendly as you all make it out to be.

Besides, us people of OT are a wee-bit....different (aka the old people who DID use to help the nubs without flaming them)
So yeah, we're used to our own time in General Discussion when we can't really see the situation it is in now.
