    It's easy. Right click on my computer, select properties and go to the hardware tab. Hit the device manager button. Expand the 'mice' option. Look for a device called PS/2 Compatible Mouse or something of the sort. Double click on it, and hit the Advanced Settings tab. It's an option there.

    Just FYI: this will require a restart.

    As for the best mouse, I would say the MX510. I have one and it is the finest mouse I have ever owned.

    one time I had an optical mouse and it would go crazy and stuff, and it was driving me nuts! like the mouse would just go out of control whenever I moved it.... and I figured out that it was my star-trek holograpic mousepad that was interfearing with the laser and so it would make it go all over the place.......boy it was funny when I finally figured that one out

    No, I think he did. Said "guy" who will not be named, had been making numberous whines and was all over me for being one of those people who oppose the existance of the blockscripts cvar. Later we all went on to talk about other things and I posted a link to this thread about optical mice to answer someone else's question and he piped up said the above... that's why it's so funny. It proves the stupidity in a laughable way

    most of us we like <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> and i was like <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Anyways... so is there a way increase or overclock the refresh rate of your optical mouse such that you can get better tracking and thus have easier time to aim at moving objects? I'm thinking you'll need to have a USB or USB2.0 mouse as PS/2 is fixed. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Ok, now I need a screenname so I can PM him and make fun of him.

It was a utility that even worked its way into the official Logitech drivers a while back.

    But even the most humble of USB optical mice can blow that rate away, obviously.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> wait, so if I am using my USB mouse through a PS/2 port I'm probably sapping the RR? I wish I could find out what make my mouse is, all it says is logitech, no make number or anything.

    My tablet pen works fine for navimagation, its just a little difficult to use. Although it was really fun to casually stroke the pen on the tablet while my little brothers were playing CS and watch them freek out. I use a USB ball mouse. I get a decent enough aim with it.. so i really cant see the huge issue with going to optical, which i really only use for alien.

    I tried that too. Was a bit hard to play, but I managed a score of 1-40 or similar. Great fun, but I switched back to my MS IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0A (I love that mouse) after that one game.

    Just be sure to get a good mouse pad too.

    Do not get a wireless for gaming. Ever.

    Logitech MX 510 is a beauty.

    I sincerely doubt that overclocking your mouse refresh rate would make a noticeable difference in gameplay.
  • AreteArete Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 5921Members
    Wireless mice shouldn't have noticeable latency anymore.

    You have to buy batteries for them though, I've had the same laser mouse for like 6 years now and never paid for a single battery <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> Not to mention the mouse acting up mid-match because it decided to become low on batteries.

    If you do get a wireless mouse, get a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery mouse they have out now with like bluetooth or something.

    Well i was looking over my logitech info that came with my mx510 and it said that u should only use the mouse with the usb connection if u were using a mac or a laptop. It recommended using the ps2 for pcs. Unusual. Anyone know why they would say this, and if usb does give u a better refresh rate than ps2?

    I thought that too. Someone told me he forgot his MX510 when he tried the MX1000. There was no difference in latency.

    And... I confirm that. The MX1000 is great. The laser technology makes it even more precise than the MX510. 200 samples/sec is enough (you just have to set it, the default is 100), you won't need more. The slightest movement is detected. I've tried to move the mouse REALLY fast and it reacted just like I expected it to...

    Forget other mice... really... forget them <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    PS: I preferred wired mice before too ^^

    stare at the power of having no Xhairs! of having a wire on your mouse! of your mouse being optical!

    Agreed, those mice are pretty much the best thing to ever come out of Redmond. I once used a Logitech wireless mouse (can't remember the specific name) for a short time, but had horrible latency. Take that for what it's worth, it's possible that I only suffered from a broken product.

    My Logitec wireless optical mouse is oh so smooth and has 0 lag. Set my mouse sensitivity up to a little over 3/4 and Im set.

    The Left mouse button received a (large) impact a while ago. This caused it to double click when it shouldn't have, or not click at all. A little bit of glue and small peices of plastic later, and it was fixed.
