Well, in order for a MOD to use a sound like that, it needs to be uploaded to your computer. Which is why it's in that folder. Try a freash install of NS. It's not there.

EDIT: Nevermind that last part.

The other turret sounds are way better than the default one, but it makes you want to turret farm because the sounds are so cool.

WhiteZero:
I just made a fresh install of NS into a totally blank folder. Never ran it(wasn't in my steam folder anyway) And look:
C:\folder\ns\sound\hud\alien_needbetter.wav
Its not a mod, so what is it caused by?

Yes, 'we need better players' is indeed a standard NS sound, triggered by the vast majority of the alien team being dead.

As for the 3 unused turret sounds, I actually have sometimes heard them play ingame, sometimes in a large turret farm one of the turrets will use a different sound.

Very strange...

Of course, if you think they sound better, why not simply rename two of the files around, so that the standard sound is replaced by one of the ones you prefer?

it's a bug. the other 3 sounds are what the turret is supposed to sound like after each weapon upgrade. this bug was supposed to be fixed, but i guess it's still there

Looks like it's time for me to share some NS history with you. Way back in early 2002, before the aliens even had names; donce was (and still is) in common usage in the official IRC channel #naturalselection. The sound that occasionally plays when the aliens get 3 hives, "Now we donce" is not in fact a mispronounciation of 'dance' or even from an english accent (random trivia: The lady who did the voice of the hivemind is American); it is actually a nod towards the NS community, to be precise, it's a nod to the IRC channel.

First off the sounds are determiend by mp_eastereggchance
Set this value to x, where 1 in x+1 games will play humorous audio easter eggs in certain situations. Setting to 0 will enable them for all games. This affects alien voices only.

Now, we donce = when you get 3 hives
We need better players = results froma failed rush
This is my hive, there are many like it, but this one is mine = when a gorge sits in an unbuilt or building hive for a long time
This place is a mess = when a lot of players are together in one area and about half die
I see dead people = when one skulk kills i think 5-7+ marines on his own.

Mouse is quite correct along with Tycho.

The "donce" is a close relative of "pance"

So to clarify, it's donce not dance, nothing to do with imaginary english accents.

I say imaginary because I am English and I promise you, the general american idea of what the English are like is very very wrong.
