Well yeah, Steam is totaly intigrated and all. But lets say you just formated your computer. With the CDs you could install Steam & HL2 without downloading the Steam slient.

Anyway, yeah, it dosent make that huge of a difference either way you do it.

Then you buy the SP pack, as that doesn't run on Steam.

There is no SP pack anymore. If you don't have the internet then you'll probably have to use public internet or telephone to register your game.

Condition Zero retail didn't need internet. It used the same interface a Steam game uses, but it didn't need Internet, or having Steam installed, or anything strange...

Yeah, they've impimented the Steam interface to everything now, weather it's online or not.

talking of Condition Zero, i got it free with my video card, but it says it needs a cd-key to play.

I don't have internet on that pc yet, and i'm not installing it on this one. what are you supposed to do to get the key?
• WhiteZeroWhiteZero That Guy Join Date: 2004-06-24 Member: 29511Members, Constellation
If it came with the game, then it should have a CD-Key with it as well. Look inside the CD Case/Sleeve for a strip of paper with the key, or printed on the back of the case/sleeve.

T-shirt!

Soon, with Half Life and the second Half Life , I will be able to taste the joys of having a (full) life everyone's been talking about, while wearing a t-shirt of HL²!

Actually, you'd have a three-quarter life. After all, (1/2)^2 == 1/4, plus 1/2 makes 3/4.

ah, the power of math
• Cereal_KillRCereal_KillR Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1837Members
Actually no.

As it's Half-Life² , meaning (Half Life) squared.

1/2 ² Life ²

Lives being positive, you have 1/4 Lives squared. A life is thus the root of 1/4 so 1/2

I might get a life!!

No, because as anyone can see, it's Half-Life^2. You forgot an operator. The subtraction.

(1/2^2) - (Life^2) == 1/4 - Life^2 == -(Life^2) + 1/4

If anything, you'll have even less of a life with Half-Life^2.

Also, this is not a balanced equation... it's not Half-Life^2=0, it's simply a value statement. So you can't derive any correlation between the 1/2 and Life.

Though I'm pretty sure you could arrange a Gordon = (-Alyx+-sqrt(Alyx^2 - 4GMan * Barney))/2(GMan) quadratic, if you wanted. Though if you read it right, as with all math, it turns into a dirty joke.

Not a difficult choice for me. It's gotta be Silver. Steam purchases get CS: Source next week(and the other Source things if they're finished first), and retail ones have to wait until whenever HL2 comes out. And who knows whether or not the other Source mods are free with retail(I'm not paying $30 extra for the overpriced Collector's Edition). I'm sure Vivendi isn't happy with this deal at all. Also, if they try to withhold the retail version now they'll just lose half their sales when Valve releases it over Steam.

Do we know yet if Half-Life 2 is going to include its own multiplayer(i.e. HL2DM), or is Counter-Strike going to be the only online play that ships with the game?

SILVER

An anybody who's going to wait for box JUST because they want a physical copy gets a punch in the face. Wake up and smell the new distribution system that will force publishers back into the midget homes they came from.
