Shotgun = double barelled hunting gun style thing.
Pump-action shotgun = I think we all know what this means >:-)
Semi-auto shotgun = does what it says on the tin
That's the way I see it
Pump shotguns are typically pumped before fired.
huh..tank?
your kidding, dont you? are we talking about a shotgun, or a super soaker?
oh..and there are full auto shotguns too like the usas ( i have a sexy video firing one of those 50 rounds full auto from a drum mag) wohoo
and if i remember right the franchie spas 12 gauge got single(pump action) , semi , and a full auto mode

Shotguns, as Marik said, fire shot or pellets, and are less commonly called scatterguns. They generally fire large sized shells filled with pellets of lead or steel that is effective at short ranges.
They can usually also fire slugs, which are large, singlely fired bullets.
I've never even heard the term pumpgun. I would assume it would refer to any shotgun that uses a pump-action to remove a spent shell and insert a new one into the breech.
Or maybe some types of automatically reloading lever-action rifles where you can pump the trigger and lever down and pull it back up to eject a shell and load another.
Got a link to that video?
Now, there are also several types of shotguns:
Breach loading shotguns open up near the trigger and allow you to load a shell in the barrel. These can be one or two barrel.
Pump-action shotguns hold anywhere from 3 to 9 (usually) or so shells in the pipe below the barrel and one in the barrel. Also some pipes are pluged by the dealer and can be unpluged to hold more shells. Many of them can be fired semi-semi auto by holding the trigger and continually pumping the pump, since the pump pulls the spent shell out, ejects it, slams another into the barrel and resets the firing pin. I think some of the more famous pumps, like the SPAS-12, can fire in true semi-auto... but I may be wrong.
Semi-auto/auto shotguns, like the USAS, have a fully automated feed system which probably uses the recoil of the shot to eject and feed like most other weapons.
I think there's also a few handle fed shotguns (think like the old Winchester rifles) around, but not many...
<a href='http://media.skoopy.com/vids/vid_00120.wmv' target='_blank'>12 Gauge full auto ATCHISSON ASSAULT Shotgun (sorry..its not the usas 12 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> )</a>
oh.. the drum holds just 25 rounds (not 50, my fault) , in the video ive counted him loading 21.. full drums tend to jam. not the recoil reloads them, more the combustion gases of the "gunpowder" wich is gettin through a small hole in the barell and pushing against a gas piston wich is pushing the boltcarrier back, whos extracting the spent case, ejects it, and on its way back to the closed position it takes a new round from the magazine with it.
USAS-12:

For visual people, these are shotguns:
Browning Citori (over and under):

Remington 11-87 (semi automatic):

Winchester defender (pump action) (mine, I've changed the stock for a pistol grip stock)
<img src='http://membres.lycos.fr/strabismo/DefenderTactique.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
And the same but with the original stock:
<img src='http://membres.lycos.fr/strabismo/Defender.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Shotguns uses ammunition like these (these are turkey loads): (they can be multiple (like on the image above) pellets or single slug or sabot)
<img src='http://www.remington.com/images/ammo/premagtky.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
And pump action is not only for shotguns, this is a Remington model 7600, it is a pump action rifle:
<img src='http://www.remington.com/images/firearms/7600wd.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
rifles shoots single bullets like this one (.308 win. shown)
<img src='http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/Lobby/1221/308win.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
(but you must use round-point ammunition for the 7600 because of it's magazine desing.)

Damnit They are totally worth it. and when loaded with slugs, blunt force trauma is most effective. I have Flechettes on hand in case I get the chance to shoot another one. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> If ever get a Full Auto weapon, something like that is definately going to be it!
I've owned, and later sold several AOW weapons. Serbu Shotguns are serverally shortend versions of Mossberg line firearms. These can be used as conceiled weapons also. Assuming you paid the proper tax stamp and did your paper work.
they also come with a nifty leg holster... I plan one day to own one for myself

Thanks Sheena!
Especially with UZi around praising them and apparently selling them as if they're as common as collectibles.
edit: after his edit, UZi scares me even more.
As far as I'm concerned, if your BATF checks out ok I will sell you anything in the locker (thats not MINE!)
You want to see scary? Take a look at Randy Weaver's family. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I can't just GIVE it to people, I have to have it legally transferred in with a FFL (I do all my business with a friend of my mothers who we have a business agreement)
I work on firearm I do some pretty good shotgun smithing along with making some of the most accurate Remington 700 Rifles out of washington.
(spits)
I'm not the one putting them in their hands.
Theres nothing I or anyone else can do to keep the weapons out of their hands. Any cop who says otherwise is a godamn liar and should be fired for lieing. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
If it's the weapons your scared of then maybe one should own one and empower themselves.
The laws are very simple;
You can't have one.
if you want a shotgun with style get this one
<img src='http://weapons.travellercentral.com/heavy/pagl.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
this shotgun accepts 40mm canisters , and turns into a nice nadelauncher

That makes me sad every time I hear it.
Thursday-, if you ever visit the East Coast give me a ring and I'll set you up with a certified introduction to firearms.
Skeet shooting is one of my most favorite pastimes.
Full Auto isn't that fun. It is a bit hard to control how many shots you fire.
Semi Auto is tremendous fun.
Using a double barrel even more fun (and more accurate)
Free lesson: If you value the use of your right arm. Never, fire both barrels at once with your back to a wall. Make sure you have lots of padding on your bum as well.

marik, on the rock salt note. You can fire dimes from shotguns as well >_<
