Alpha Centauri's score of 98%, which I think PCGamer's staff is regretting (97 or 96 maybe, but 98?), has now been tied.

As for HL2: Wouldn't require the use of a supercomputer to calculate a score that low? Or would we simply round it off to -∞?

And ATI: Bah. If you're lucky enough to be able to find one, just buy a VIVO X800Pro (such as Sapphire's Toxic) and softmod it. *scuttles off to find an X800XT PE since you can't seem to get VIVO Pro's in Canada*

Didn't the original HL also get a 98%? At the very least, it was a 96, but I think Alpha Centauri tied HL for top score. I'd go look but I have no idea what issue it was.

Edit: checked the reviews DB on the CD, apparently it was a 97%. Should have split the difference.

Given that around 50% of PC Gamer is pure advertising and that they repeatedly up reviews of games by around 10-20% to please larger advertisers, I'm inclined to take any review with a generous pinch of salt.

    <span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>OOOOOOOOWOOOOOOOOOOWOOOOOOOOOOO!

An FPS! With Gordon Freeman! And the same weapons! Fighting a similar host of monsters with new skins!</span>

Genius. I can't wait to shove my raving fanboy tongue into their output port quick enough.

I'll wait to see just how flexible the interaction is between players and environment first. If it's just a slightly improved set of func_breakables (as I suspect it might be) plus a few physics enhancements, then I'm sorry, but the 6 year wait has hardly been worth it.

I take heart in knowing that just about everyone who topples the ivory pillar Half Life 2 sits on will still be loading up their copy after beating off every other nerd in the area at the local Best Buy when it comes out.

Whoa, slow down. Subtracting 1%? That's like, advanced calculus mathematics there.

I think a game's prowess should be measured by Bob Hoskins' physique.

Pardon? If your post were a game, you say? I think an image would portray its beauty best.

    <span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>OOOOOOOOWOOOOOOOOOOWOOOOOOOOOOO!

<!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
When have they upped a review for those reasons? I've never once disagreed with their percentages, and frankly, enjoy their stuff a lot. Oh, and they do things to please larger advertisers? Is that why every EA sports game to come out in the last 2-4 years has gotten 60-78%, despite everyone else in the world going "OMG LEWK!" at it? Or why they willingly bashed another of EA's titles, Spearhead for MoH:AA? Or why Black & White didn't get its big thing, nor The Sims Online? Give me some proof of them upping it for no reason.

...and if ANY of you bring up the DOOM 3 review, I'm going to strangle you. Unlike many of you, they played the game for what it was- a horror game. It WASN'T an action game, and if it didn't scare you, then fine. But its sure as hell the scariest game out there on the market right now.
